If the rumours about Grant Holt being sold are true it is a total disgrace by the club. No amount of money is enough as he is on a 3 year contract and would still be worth the same amount of money at the end of next season. If he has been sold, I hope the club will offer refunds to those who have purchased season tickets because I shall be at the front of the queue......

Nothing like a good overreaction on B&A.

Well I'm sorry but IF the rumours are true it is scandalous. It's not as if Holty is coming to the end of his career and we have to grab the money quick. We can get the required fee for him just as easily at the end of next season when he will still have 1 year left on his contract. Selling him now equates to selling any chance we have of promotion. IF it is true, it shows a total lack of ambition by the board.

If Holt is leaving it seems yet another step in distancing the club from the fans - following the long line of issues including the clip art lion badge, the soverign club, changing the kits and the mess up over the contracts.
I'm not some nieve fan who expects to be told every detail of the clubs business but I really didn't see the whole scale change in players during the summer coming, and if the club is in some financial problems it would have been nice to know before renewing the season ticket

My guess is that you will be first in the que to buy your season ticket back when the Holt tranfer money has been spent and people are getting exited again... Every player has his price and that price has obviously been met. Simmo has said we dont 'need' to sell for finacial reasons but at the end of the day when a big offer comes in for a player you have to ask weather we will be better off as a club with the money, or with Grant Holt, It seems in this case the money is more valuble. If Holty goes which by all acouts he will, we need to look forward and move on. He can be replaced, mybe not by a similar player but maybe this gives us chance to reshape the team. The way some people have reacted is as if the club in about to go into liquidation.. We should count ourselves lucky, we could be Chester fans!

He will also be a year older and a little bit closer to the end of his contract, so more leverage can be applied on the price, as there is some urgency to sell him before his contract out. you dont support grant holt, you support shrewsbury town and IF he goes, the manager will replace him with someone he feels is as good. the club would be stupid to sell him for less than they could replace him for so i imagine it is a good price as we are an unmotivated seller.

Agree with you Penza, people need to remember that we're in the 4th division in reality. How many players in recent years have left 4th division clubs for around £500,000???
And unlike Hart, it's not like Holt is going to go on to play for England and be around for the next 10 years minimum

We've released our best right back, and lost the other one, cocked up over contracts so have lost Davies and now have decided to let go our best player at the club. Poor STFC and thats with out adding in the other crap of clipart and the rest!

Like he replaced Ben Davies with Lewis Neal? Who's he going to get in to replace Holt then, Marc Richards?

I didn't buy my season ticket to watch Grant Holt. I'm prepared to see what happens next rather than throw a tantrum.
Every player leaves sooner or later and they're all replaceable.

At this moment we own the top scorer in league 2 - that type of commodity cannot be replaced - IF it is true, then selling him shows a total lack of ambition......... if Holty goes the club MUST, as a matter of principle, offer a refund to those who have purchased season tickets for the coming season.

I hear what you are saying Penza but peoples fear revolves around how money has been used in the past and concern about its use in the future and our so called backbone to the side of Coughlan/Jackson(both injured) Davies sold and potentially Holt sold with 17 days until the start of the season leaves people pretty shell shocked...yes we are lucky compared to Wrexham and Chester but the enthusiasm and optomism at the beginning of last season has all but evaporated.........but ever hopeful maybe Simpson and the chairman and board can find a silver lining but many I talk too are very very concerned!

Thought the Dunfield write off had set a record time but Lewis Neal written off halfway through the pre-season friendlies? Outstanding.
