www.shropshirestar.com/sport/2024/11/05/the-latest-on-shrewsburys-search-for-a-head-coach/Shropshire star reporting that we want a short term manager until the end of the season, ideally with League 1 relegation battle experience. Theoretically removes managers like Wild from the conversation, and makes someone like Maamria feel far more likely. I do think it would be an indicator as to takeover conversations if it is a short term deal. Would suggest it could be done by the summer, and the new owners will want a clean slate to work from. Otherwise, I think we'd be looking at an 18 month type deal, with a relegation break clause. There’s a manager working wonders in the National League who’s got experience of getting us out of relegation messes… He has a lot of experience in getting relegated and flouncing too

Ryan Lowe would be a very good interim Replacement. Then if he did a good job the door would be open.

Whoever can harness the obvious flair and attacking talents of Castledine, O’Reilly and Sagoe Jnr so that we pose a threat and score goals has a chance of keeping us up.
The defence will continue to leak goals but under Hurst, as soon as we went behind, it was generally game over. At the risk of stating the obvious, even our defence looks better when the ball is in the opponents’ half!
Of course, it’s possible that they will be recalled in January and we will be looking elsewhere for flair. There is precious little anywhere else in the current squad so we’ll probably be doomed in that case.

From afar, but feeling the pain all the same, and having been a North Shropshire Town fan since the late 70s (and now having passed it on to my three boys, who have worn the blue n amber since babies). Have been to lots of games over the last few years at starts of season/Xmas/end of season since working overseas (distinction of starting the full-on chant of ‘There’s Only One Team in Shropshire ‘ at Exeter when Mickey Brown kept us up)….. and the last 5 years have been garbage. Score fewer than anyone else. Reliant upon our defence every year. But now we can’t defend. We don’t keep the flipping ball. Until we do we’re relegation fodder. This year and next and beyond. Every single team we play wants the ball. Ours don’t.. Fear footballl. Hoof it to nowhere. It’s clueless and hopeless. Get a COACH, not a manager, who believes in retention of the ball, throughout the team. No short term ‘experienced’ manager in crisis management. I’ll take going going down and re-surfacing as a team that keeps the blinking ball, creates chances and scores goals. I’ll take the odd hammering if it’s part of a reset of how we play. Every player in our albeit limited squad can pass it 5/10/20/30 yards to a blue shirt. And move. And run. This is not an impossible ask. And the players will enjoy it. If they don’t/ can’t they can go. Roland an co: make the right call, and think beyond this season. Invest in the right person, at the expense of a costly player contract. Not a fan of his as a player, but as a modern coach who gets teams playing with the ball, I’d try very hard to get Ryan Lowe. Floreat Salopia!

Speaking from first hand experience with Wrexham playing his teams, you wouldn't go too far wrong in appointing Wild as temp manager. Has never worked anywhere with any sort of budget, and plays the sort of football that gets results.
Made Halifax contenders in NL and improved Barrow no end after their promotion to L2, even if they missed out in playoffs.
career average of approx 45% win rate in his career isnt too shabby

Who says it isn’t also agent talk drumming up a better price or putting pressure on us to start discussions

Would be really happy with Ainsworth. But not for a minute do I think he’d take the job, unless the new owners had any involvement in the process feeling he’s somebody they’d see more long term.

If Ainsworth comes in perhaps we will benefit from a few 'ghost' goals.

Would Ainsworth want to be an interim? Don't think so Absolutely dreadful football to watch but I suppose it serves a purpose. As you say though, would he want to be interim, his last job was in the Championship, maybe interim here might be seen as quite a drop for him. On the other hand, come in do well and he hasn't lost any credit.

Would be very happy with GA, come in as interim until end of season and see where the takeover takes us then. Not sure how he would work with MM as he’s more of a manger than head coach but fresh impetus is needed now more than ever

I didn’t believe the Ainsworth stuff earlier but he’s still odds on - can anyone ITK please shut it down asap so I don’t have to get excited about it please? The bookies odds are only governed by bets received. There won’t be a large pool of bets on the next nanager of STFC, so if you placed 50 quid on Nigel Jemson at 50/1 he would suddenly become odds on favourite and the bookies will be worried about what you know. Favourite or not you would end up 50 quid worse off. I guess a few punters who would like Ainsworth here have lobbed a few quid on him.

Interview with Ryan Lowe in The Telegraph three days ago. Sounds like he's back in the market for work after a break and doesn't strike me as someone whose bottom line is what the salary is. Wonder if he'd be up for a short term project, or longer if it works out?
