Roland doesn't pick the team or sign the players. He doesn't set the team up or lead the training at Sundorne. He's culpable however for the clusterf*ck which is our current 1st team structure and bringing a manager who is a spent force at FL level. Project Prodigal has failed. You can only sign what you can afford and budget from investment in the club. We have lost money from a lack of non match day income by poor management and running and we keep losing boardmembers due to Roland star sign BS fall outs. These failures are all on him. Buck stops at the top. I have no idea how our budget compares to previous seasons. That remains to be seen. Recruitment has been poor but of course PH acolytes will have the MM card to play. If anyone thinks that MM brought in Hurst, Doig, Nsiala and Nolan then they need a word with themselves. We can finger-point and blame all we like but Hurst has a job to do. If he can't do it, then he needs to jog on. Just like everything FL manager who can't put points on the board.

Just seen Hursts interview. A good reasoned summary of the game and performance. Where I disagree is his view that Town fans are all nice kind people. Has he never looked at blue and amber.

It’s all the myth of Roland Wychley. The man who saved us from destruction and the safe pair of hands who only ever does things in the best interests of Shrewsbury Town Football Club. Every single person and local businessman who’s tried to invest in the football club and buy part ownership has come into the football club fronting money but has been kicked out of the revolving door falling out with Roland. Was that in the best interests of Shrewsbury town or Roland Wychley? Moving to the new ground made us stabilise as a league two outfit at the time and surrounding ground was purchased with massive value into the future for development. Was that in the best interests of Shrewsbury town or Roland Wychley? Some of the land has been sold off to Aldi and local businesses the past few years and yet that money doesn’t seem to have been in the club accounts as far as I can tell. Was that in the best interests of Shrewsbury town or Roland Wychley? Running a balance of payments every season in league one, ensuring that the club never needs to have money put it from outside sources. Was that in the best interests of Shrewsbury town or Roland Wychley? When Steve and Brian overspent and the club lost money whilst Roland wasn’t watching the books, Roland made up the difference ensuring that his investment would survive and not lose value. Was that in the best interests of Shrewsbury town or Roland Wychley? Making Micky Moore Director of Football and ensuring the club would pick up bargains without the need for significant investment and trying to maintain our status as a league one club, hanging on every year. Was that in the best interests of Shrewsbury town or Roland Wychley? Roland is not a messiah and he’s ruining this football club. Has your keyboard jammed ?

Thoroughly disappointed by the result, of course, and the comment made by a guy walking home from the match said it all: a dejected "bad"...

You are correct Proud. Unreasoned criticism and carping for the sake of it helps no one and encourages the recipient to stop listening believe me I am not happy with this situation but have neither the inside knowledge or expertise to put it right. Let those who do sort it. Give them encouragement instead of grief. In my job I felt empty vessels make the most noise

Agree with the 'entertainment ' comments. Far too much of that around our goal today, although we did create chances too.
Positives ? The set pieces are improving. Closing down a team trying to play out from the back was decent. The new keeper looked OK (still too slow to distribute for my liking) The new kit is much better. Excellent playing surface. The swallows from under the south stand were also quality.
Negatives ? Still playing that gopping American country song pre match - can it. Our 'midfield' has the collective pace and tackling ability of a pensioner. (Winchester apart - he can tackle, but too often has to cover for those that cant or simply dont track runners , so gets dragged out of position leaving gaping holes - which the Posh exploited to the full today) Our centre halves cannot play pass-it-around-at-the-back football with any degree of success. Not sure what the manager is thinking in even asking them to do that (Nsiala never could - Matt Sadler +co did all that for him last time he was here, AP is also pass-limited). When they have to hoof it, some actual movement up front or runners from midfield to aim for, might help.
The ref was shocking today, it still could have finished 2-2 , despite us being murdered by pace and movement for much of the match. Not sure where Belfastshrew was watching from , I'd say from looking at those numbers it must either be the '+2' stand or Shipley's.

Clear to see your disappointment of Hurst appointment initially have such an influence in your posts. We are favourites to be bottom for a reason and one of those reasons trotted out by every predictor/ and betting site is our low budget this season. That's not to say it isn't for a good reason, we are skint, it's all about survival in league one now until there is investment. RW for all my criticism of him I believe has got the right duo in Hurst and Doig to achieve their remit this season which realistically will be to keep us up with the minimal budget (allegedly 1 million less). In the meantime RW has to find a new owner that will take the club forward.

There’s nothing more than many people on this forum like than a good meltdown. Throwing their toys out of the pram is something they must look forward to during the week. I appreciate everyone has their own view here, and some see this as meltdown. Not all of us do, and in my opinion I'm not 'melting down', I'm carefully and gently expressing my supreme displeasure. It's not just about today's performance and result either, this has been building for at least 18 months, and what we're seeing is the culmination and reality of the level of investment that we're making (or, in our case, not making), and the stark reality of exactly how far (or not) that goes at this level, in what is an uber competitive league this season. For me it's a mixture of frustration, annoyance and apathy, and a sense that Roland's appalling recent stewardship of the club, his arrogant failure to take any responsibility for the overspend, and his stubbornness to sell the club when by all accounts there was interest, has got us into this sorry, sorry state. Hurst can only do what he can do with what he's given, and when your recruitment strategy starts with bargain basement injury prone journeymen, he's got little to no chance. Yes, Peterborough are a good side, credit where it's due, but not only did they absolutely rip us a new one but, and more worryingly, we offered absolutely no resilience or stubbornness at the back, with our league 2 (at best) defence dragged all over the place. It'll be the same against Birmingham and Wrexham and Huddersfield and Bolton and Barnsley and Rotherham and even Stockport and probably Mansfield. Unable to compete off the pitch and with absolutely no chance on it. There's a sense that the rot and, worse still, the apathy is spreading. Roland's delinquency has got us in this mess and his stubbornness will lead us to league two, where his asset will be worth even less. I genuinely hope I'm wrong, and my support will never waver, and hasn't for one single day since my first match in February 1989, despite it being almost 25 years now since I left Shrewsbury. I was at Stevenage last week and will be doing the almost 450 mile round trip from Suffolk to Huddersfield next week, and I'll continue to do so for the rest of my life but, sorry, to suggest this is a meltdown is way off beam, and doesn't appreciate that, for some of us, this is NOT a knee jerk reaction to today's pathetic performance, rather it is a considered reaction to the way that Roland has mismanaged 'our' (yes, I know Roland owns the legal entity, but show me any real fan who doesn't agree that the fans own the spirit of a club, always have, always will) club and to his arrogant and aloof failure to take any responsibility as Chairman for the mess he has allowed this club to become. He has enough credit in the bank from me that I won't direct anything other than frustrated annoyance at him rather than true vitriol (although I don't expect all to be so kind) but, Roland, it is time to go! Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is different to yours, my first match was in 1968 and believe you me we’ve been through thick and thin in those years, good times and bad times. We’ve had periods of over spending prior to Roland taking over, it only got us relegated and really really low gates I’m talking 2000. Now Roland may well have his faults don’t we all and of course back in the day there was no social media for us to express ourselves. But I think we need to face facts we know we can’t compete with most of the league financially, but if it wasn’t for Roland managing to get the new ground I fear we’d be playing non league now. yes we want investment but it’s got to be the right one, I bet Roland has put more of his own money into the club than we are aware of so for me that gives him the absolute right to pick and choose who we sell to.

People are commenting on what they see, it might be negative but after a performance like today I'm not sure what the positives are. We are all fans but it doesn't mean we have to stick our head in the sand and pretend things are great.

Yup, a lot there I agree with and a touch I don't, but I was there through the miserable late 1990's under King, 2300 rattling around in the crumbling Riverside and I know that where we are now has a lot to do with the careful management of Roland. It's why I deliberately stopped short of the level of criticism some are levelling at him. Where his behaviour remains inexcusable however is his failure to take responsibility for the mess we've ended up in. As chairman it's his fault, no one else's, and his repeated inability to see or admit that leaves me with no confidence in his ongoing stewardship. And I say that with supreme regret, because I accept and understand everything you say about what he's done for this club, but also that his 'credit in the bank' for all of that can only last so far, and for so long, and he's now already well into his overdraft, and with his apparent reluctance to sell the club compounding matters.

How many managers have we had since we returned to League One? Lets leave aside the play-off season under Hurst because clearly that was a flash in the pan as we haven't come anywhere near again since. So we had Mellon, Askey, Ricketts, Cotterill, Taylor (and now back to Hurst). Of all those listed only one of them led us to a top half finish (just) and that was because, apparently, he overspent (as in, we couldn't afford a 12th place finish). All the others led us to 20th, 18th, 18th, 17th and 18th (leaving aside the season cut short by Covid) and more than once we have needed to replace the manager as there was a danger we were heading for relegation. So when I look to that, I'm now at the stage where I do not think changing manager will make any difference. Because it hasn't. I wouldn't say I'm a Hurst acolyte nor will I look to play the MM card, there is only one mainstay throughout all this and as far as I can see unless there is a change in ownership or we get additional investment then moving from one manager to the other seems akin to nothing more than rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic. Early days yet of course. But three games in and no wins. It was poor against Stevenage. We managed a draw at home to a side in the division below having conceded three to them. Posh tore us a new one today. Not the best start. Hopefully Hurst can improve on things. But if he doesn't (lets hope he can!!) I do hope that the focus will be switched, if even somewhat, from the manager this time around.👍

Roland out.

I presume we have the squad we can afford. So now it is up to Hurst to get the best of them, we need to be a lot faster at closing down, we need to do the basics right, we need to track players better we have to press much more effectively. All of which is possible. Our two-day center backs really worry me just to slow and one is very unfit.

Yeah and they cost £££ they are singing these players once they’ve proven themselves at National League and are the top performances at the level. They’ve paid £300k for Conn Clarke & Odah was similar this summer They may have done - but look at the money they've made by selling players, together with lucrative add ons. Latest example is Sammie Szmodics. They then reinvest that money to bring in Odoh, Randall, Poku and others. www.transfermarkt.co.uk/peterborough-united/rekordabgaenge/verein/1072 That's the sort of club we are trying to be. But it takes time after being a big money established player club that used to disregard and ditch our academy graduates.

Unfair in my opinion to always blame Roland when things are not going our way. Caldwell and Cotterill have a lot to answer for but rarely get a mention. Roland perhaps with hindsight should not have trusted them as he did but as we all know hindsight is a wonderful thing. After they left us in a mess we all knew that this season was going to be all about survival. Unlike last season it is unlikely that there will be many worse teams than us. Hope the boo boys stay away. The management team are doing what they can with the hand they have been dealt. They need our support if we are to stand a chance of survival.

A quick download from me.
I’m sick to the back teeth of seeing the away end having more fun than us on an almost seemingly permanent basis. Sick of it.
If we had eleven Winchester’s we’d be ok.
Although Shipley went awol today, if I was him, I’d be on the phone to my agent telling him to get me out of here. So I’ll be surprised if he’s here come end of transfer window.
I’m also ‘glad’ this has happened early doors because it’s a massive wake up call to everyone involved to pull their socks up and improve. Quickly.
One to forget about today. Glad our next league home game isn’t for a while as that’s going to take some getting over.

Did anyone mention he's trying to sell , desperate to sell , can't sell , make your own story up if you like , but we need a genuine buyer to match the genuine seller , until then stop being pathetic , We are the Shrewsbury We cry when we lose A genuine group showed interest & got turned away, only to buy Burton Albion please elaborate ?

A genuine group showed interest & got turned away, only to buy Burton Albion please elaborate ? You know full well what that's referring to... The blinded defence of the club is becoming more and more out of touch with what this club really needs. Change and investment and positive forward thinking.

Up to their second goal I thought that we played really well today against one of the best teams in the league. At 1-1 if the linesman had made a different decision on the Marquis through ball; then their keeper would have seen red and it would have been a different game completely. I did not think it was offside, Marquis checked back and did not run until the ball was hit - poor decision from the linesman in my opinion. Savin - 6 - some good saves, some good distribution - did not deserve to let 4 in Hule - 5 - did well against tricky opponents Feeney - 5 - was doing fine until he went off - positioned himself well to mitigate their pace Nsiala - 3 - absolute mare; up to their second goal he was frustrating because he only passed the ball backwards; the one time it didn't, he passed straight to their forward for the third and it was downhill from there. Benning - 5 - did well against Poku who was really tricky. Winchester - 6 - played a captain's role today; ran everywhere and some really good tackles - I think that could be the first time I've seen him score O'Reilly - 6 - as usual some good skill on display; really preferred him on the right rather than the middle, would have been interesting to see him able to cross the ball to Kayode who was wasted on the wing Higgins - 5 - much better than against Notts County but still not at this level at the moment for me; that shot in the second half was a real waste of a golden opportunity Shipley - 5 - quiet game by his standards and some wasteful free kicks and corners; made some good challenges but ultimately didn't really create as he can Bloxham - 4 - surprised to see Tom out on the left, did ok but clearly not his position which made it uncomfortable tracking back Marquis - 6 - good hold up play but didn't get any chances; didn't see what he got booked for but it was unfortunate timing as we had just got the ball in a dangerous position Pierre - 5 - I thought Pierre did ok when he came on; I thought they'd be running rings round him, but that ended up being what they did to Nsiala Kayode - no point playing him on the wing in that kind of game; had to be in the middle Lloyd - no point being in the middle with high balls being pinged into him - would have been better in the support role behind Kayode, keeping O'Reilly out wide on the right Sagoe - looks very quick and skilful in the warm up, but didn't get to see much of him - what he did do looked good I was surprised that Kayode didn't replace Marquis in the middle too - as a target man he is as effective as Marquis. Lloyd looks like he would be much better suited to that support role just behind the forward picking up the knock downs and O'Reilly was really effective out wide.
