When labour came round they knocked on doors and canvases opinions, the Labour candidate was with them. Our useless MP turned up today, the first time iv ever seen him on our estate, nobody knocked on doors and as only saw him as I was upstairs sorting out a curtain ,they were that quick he was gone before I got downstairs,we would be very unlucky if got anyone as useless as him.

Last time I saw an article on this 72 conservative MPs will not be standing this election many in marginal seats.

According to the recent YouGov poll, Labour are on 48% and Tories 28% in Shrewsbury. Danny boy doesn’t deserve anything else.

Interesting to see Sunak won the debate last night according to a Yougov poll
Starmer lost me the minute he told a blatant lie, that he wouldn’t go private to save the life of a loved one - appalling. He also had absolutely no policy content still! (Sunak had little more)

He also had absolutely no policy content still! (Sunak had little more) As someone voting for Starmer I'd agree that Sunak probably won it last night. Starmer felt a bit wooden and waffled on a bit. Can't agree with your bit about lying though, Sunak said he had got NHS waiting lists down which is a blatant lie, so if you're going to scald Starmer, at least be fair about it.

James Bowler - the chief Treasury civil servant had written to all Ministers ahead of the debate that the £2000 Labour tax report the treasury had produced, wasn’t produced by civil servants and should not be promoted as such.
Thought it odd Starmer didn’t challenge the figures in the debate but clearly he knew and let Sunak repeat the statement numerous times, knowing full well it was incorrect. Expect it to form the basis of the Labour campaign in the coming weeks that Sunak can’t be trusted to tell the truth
The debate itself was hopeless - ITV host lost control and just became a shouting match rather than a detailed discussion on policy.

To me Sunak came over as a rude, entitled sneaky so an so In addition.to the £2000 lie he also lied about waiting lists. Starmer will let him hang himself.

Sunak is a desperate man and is proving that he will say anything and promise anything to cling to power. Unfortunately there are some who will believe what he says.

I thoroughly dislike Sunak, he’s as slippery, rude and disingenuous as any politician I can remember.
I wish Starmer had been stronger on what he’d actually do, however I’d take the vaguery and evasiveness over what’s being said opposite.
As others have said though, the worst performing on the night was Julie Etchingham.

The Spectator Magazine has run the Conservative spending plans through the same matrix as the one the Sunak used to claim Labour will raise taxes by £2000 a household in last night debate. Trouble is Conservative plans end up costing each household £3000 in tax each year using the same criteria www.spectator.co.uk/article/on-sunaks-maths-tories-will-lift-taxes-by-3000-per-household/

To be fair that is a decent amount of support for Reform. I am more than happy, because the vast majority of those votes are going to be migrating from the Tories and the chances of a Labour government increase with every flipped vote.
It is worth looking a bit deeper and at the demographics of both the Tory and the Reform vote share.
18 to 24 Labour have a healthy 55%. The other two barely into double figures. Pretty much the same in the 25 to 49 bracket. 50 to 64 age group still has Labour comfortably ahead and it's only the over 65s that Labour lose out.
As I said most of the Reform votes are disheartened former Tories, but Labour and the LibDems are also picking up many of those disgruntled Tories, especially in places like North Shropshire. Even Jacob Rees-Mogg is getting a bit twitchy down in North East Somerset.

The calculation / conversion to the old methodology had Reform and the Tories tied on 18% Be interesting to see if this is the extent of the “Farage boom” or if the momentum can continue

For the stats geeks like me, how the polling companies collect and interpret data about the elections is really interesting. Its far from an exact science and different companies use different methods to collect the data. Think this article on undecided voters is interesting in the context of this election, which outlines how getting the 16% of voters who have yet to decide who to vote for could sway the election, or at very least decide how big winning and losing margins are. ukandeu.ac.uk/the-state-of-public-opinion-undecided-voters/Undesided voters tend to fall more into the over 55 age group, and at the last general election Boris Johnson was very good at attracting this group to vote for him, and may explain why a lot of Conservative policy has focused on issues this age group (generally) finds important such as pensions, immigration and crime. Boris Johnson was very effective at the last election of converting 55% of undecided voters to support the Conservatives at the last election, but initial polling suggests that Sunak is less popular with this group and they may instead move to Reform.

Having seen the so called debate, it is clear that the Tory plan hasn't worked, and that Labour don't seem to have a plan of any sort
Neither man enhanced their reputation
The winner to me is Ed Davey

How many times has he failed to win a seat at Westminster.
Reform is the least democratic party in the upcoming election. Fartage is the majority share holder in Reform UK Party Ltd.

I hear this a lot from the left of centre, I doubt he really cares given he won the vote that mattered most in 2016 Can't say I particularly like that about Reform, maybe if they get a foothold in Westminster this time and are serious about building for 2029, he will revisit that - or maybe not

Interesting to read the Reform Party manifesto which includes-
"It would nationalise 50 per cent of key utility companies, such as energy and water giants, “to stop consumers being ripped off”."
Good idea but it is mixed up with plenty of good intentioned policies which basically are pie in the sky and totally un-costed and unachievable.

Reform’s manifesto doesn’t have to be achievable though as they know they’re not going to form a government, so they can just try and capture as many headlines and votes as they can. Another example being raising the tax free allowance to £20,000, looks great whilst the Tory’s and Labour are both saying the personal allowance will be frozen. Hard to take them seriously, although not everything they say should be immediately dismissed without scrutiny.

My point was that the manifesto contains what you would call a number of "left wing policies" to counter balance the criticism of another poster above who moaned about "lefties"

The way Sunak is running this campaign, labour have to do very little as he keeps shooting himself in the foot. Why on earth did he think leaving the D Day celebrations was a good idea. A photo of all the world leaders bar Sunak as Cameron stood in for him Apparently he went early for an ITV interview, which could have been scheduled at any time. Personally I thought it was a hugely disrespectful thing to do The king stayed and he is battling cancer.

Sunak has absolutely no idea about what is important to us. He’s just an over egged nobody who is clueless. The sooner he goes the better.
Yesterday was just the very last straw.
A comment I read somewhere else stated that while he wants young people to do National Service for a period, he can’t even do it for one day.

Can't understand why all those ministers who say it was wrong to return from the D-Day commemorations early didn't whisper in his ear? Cameron, for one, an ex PM, didn't he think to say it won't look good if you are not in the photo with the other world leaders? Do they want him to fail?
