So pleased we don't have to out up with VAR every week. Never a penalty for me but wasn't surprised when it was given as several similar decisions have been made earlier in tournament Kane kicked the defender, just as much a foul by Kane as other way round. What is a defender supposed to do, step away and let him shoot? Absolutely ridiculous decision. Kane kicked the ball

Luke Shaw looked great too, I'd glad I didn't bow to the pressure and lectures to accept Andy Robertson into the squad ;-)

I missed the point where anyone was tied to a chair and forced to spend their summer watching England/Southgate...
Meanwhile... two finals in three years. The only fact required.

I've watched every England game at this tournament and for the majority of the time I have been less than enthused by the football. Let's be honest most of it has been as dull as dishwater, but it has been interspersed with a moment or two of magic; Bellinghams goal v Slovakia and Toneys penalty.
Last night was much better. Foden was everywhere. Southgates substitutions worked well. I think our best player throughout has been Kyle Walker, I honestly don't think he's put a foot wrong.
I think we work better with 3 at the back and wingbacks. Still not convinced that Trippier is the best choice on the left, but Saka at right WB works well. While I think TAA is overrated he would be a better option at left wingback. Especially with Guéhi able to cover for him when he inevitably goes missing.
The fact that Harry Kane could well walk away with the Golden Boot despite being largely anonymous throughout the tournament is bizarre. He does score goals , but better teams nullify him as a lone striker, although them having to concentrate on him gives others more space. I think against Spain he and England would benefit from either another striker alongside him or to keep him on the bench. Imagine going to 70 minutes level to then seeing Kane coming on and how much it would lift us and dishearten the Spanish defenders. Just a thought.
I really don't know what is going to happen on Sunday. England have just as many match winners as Spain, but while we have been slow out of the blocks they have been at the top of their game throughout the competition. We've had a much easier route to the final and had the rub of the green in a couple of games. Maybe we've rode our luck a couple of times, but sometimes lucky teams win things.
For the first time in this competition I am starting to believe we can win it.
Pickford
Stones Walker Guéhi
Saka TAA
Rice Mainoo Bellingham Foden
Kane/Watkins
I'd love to us start with Watkins, because Spain will be expecting Kane to start and will be working on how to keep him quiet. Starting Watkins would give them a different set of questions. Also Jimmy Greaves was our no.1 striker in 1966, but it was his understudy that bagged a hat-trick in the final. Just sayin' 😉

Great first half, by far the best performance from England this tournament. It was great to see Foden much more involved. The Dutch put pay to that second half but we got there in the end. Hats off to Southgate, Palmer and Watkins. What to think about the penalty. Defenders should have the right to block a shot of course but from what I recall Dumfries wasn't so much looking to block the shot but made an effort to play the ball before the shot was made, missed and caught Kane. I think you could argue it was a tad reckless. I think its one of those that tends to be given everywhere else on the pitch but not in the penalty box. Normally anyhow. Maybe we have a had a bit of luck with the decision last night and that last second goal against the Slovaks but you're always going to need things to go your way once in a while to progress and win such a tournament. And we have certainly had plenty of decisions go against us in the past so...

At the start of this tournament my heart said we can do it my head said we will out by the quarter finals. Despite some dire performances England have shown resilience, we have come back from behind to win and we seem to have developed the knack of the last minute goal I thought our first half was the best we have played. Well done England and congratulations Southgate can he finally get a tournament win or will we Fail at the last moment?
He has got England so near it would be a shame not to win somthing. But we now face the best and most consistent team in the tornoument.

top scorer in the tournament currently on 3 goals, Kane one behind on 2 im hoping the dutch fans are similarly crying out for top scorer gakpo to be dropped in time for the semi final At least Gakpo has a turn of pace, Kane appears to think he is playing in the European Walking Football Championship. Gakpo ran out of steam and can now turn and go home Kane walked into the final ;-)

The point about Ollie's goal is that it was one touch to control and a perfect strike, rather than messing about trying to set up the perfect shot. Brilliant.

Watched the game in a hotel in Utrecht with some friendly banter with the locals - very nice people the Dutch. Best performance of the tournament so far for England with Foden running the midfield first half (amazing what happens if you play your best players in their proper positions). I was surprised VAR intervened for the penalty but a bit of luck is what you need in tight games like this. The Dutch were a big threat from setpieces with Bellingham unable to handle Dumfries (shouldnt he be playing for Scotland?) in the air. You have to hand it to Kane - despite being hampered by an injury he has been clinical with whatever chances come his way and the relatively early introduction of Watkins produced the moment of brilliance that won us the game. Spain will be even tougher - they produced the most thrilling half hour of football seen in the tournament against France - and we will have to deal with their wonderful pair of wingers but an England team at the top of its game is clearly capable of a victory.

It was a truly magical finish, more impressive than Bellingham overhead kick for me. To hit it with such power at that angle and get it right in the corner was very impressive.

Hopefully the ultimate vindication for Southgate on Sunday - he deserves it more than anybody for the unfair torrent of abuse over the last 2 or 3 years, and 2 or 3 weeks!!
Well done England

Always been a Southgate doubter but the record speaks for itself and at times they played some lovely uptempo stuff.
Seems to have found the formula now to maximise Foden, and give Bellingham freedom to roam.
Looking forward to Sunday, we shouldn't fear them.
