Anything under 500k would be pretty poor imo unless there's a substantial sell on clause

Can't see the fee being amazing he's barely played senior football. Sell on fee at somepoint in the future (you'd hope) but we know from young players in the past how they can fizzle out.
An absolute triumph for Longwell and the recently maligned by many on here youth set up.

Agree don’t think we can get the fee many hope with so little first team football played

Thank god we gave him a pro contract only 3 weeks ago. Although I suspect the fee is nothing like many fans think/hope

Barnsley just rejected £4mil from Coventry for a defender. If we dont get a 7 figure fee based on his age and potential upside then a travesty has been done here.
I hope this is the start of things to come as this is the sustainable model Ive been hoping we would employ for some time.
Also this thing about him not playing enough football at senior level means nothing. Neither does a couple of million to a premier league side. I really hope we have negotiated a decent fee here instead of the usual 200-300k crap.

Kitching has played over 150 senior games including 2 whole seasons at L1 level as a key player. Be very very suprised if we are getting a seven figure sum for a 17 year old who's started one senior game.

You think we'll get £1m+ for a 17 year old who's played about half an hour of pro football? If that was the case, RW would've had the entirety of the national media in to shout it from the rooftops. Well be lucky if it's anywhere near £250k, the 20% sell on is the key element.

I reckon £150K paid in 3 instalments of £50K plus an appearance bonus of £50K if he plays 20 or more senior games. It’s a gamble for Newcastle - but a cheap / low risk one. It’s the 20% sell on plus a box of Newcastle brown which is the best bit.

Personally think it's a mistake. He was on the brink of playing first team here. Even if he had half a season behind him we could've commanded a fee probably quadruple what we've got.
But imagine we've seen the instant booking of some profit and gone for it.

Blimey. A shame we might not see him in a Town shirt again if he is that good but hopefully a decent amount of money coming in. And good luck to him, what a move that is for the lad.
I wonder if they plan to loan him out someplace.

I just hope we find out the amount.

Whilst most are still using the lazy "splashing the Saudi money"* jibes, Newcastle have been quietly signing a lot of British talent ranging from 14-18 years old. The youth teams are packing out with talent, I hope Hernes thrives up there!
*Check out the spending of Everton, Villa, Bournemouth etc.

I suppose for today though the fee gives us instant profit on the balance sheet to make some moves today (I hope). Jorge Grant please.

If true, then this is a huge problem for clubs like Town. Not so very long ago we'd get at least season or two out of our young talent (eg Goldson, Woods). But now the big clubs take a punt on potential. £500k for the likes of Newcastle is a drop in the ocean if it doesn't work out for them. Sure, it may lead to some incoming fees for us down the track but he's hardly out of school and he's on his way before we even get the chance to see him play! You can take a pop at Cotterill or even Moore/Taylor for how they might want to shape a squad, but trying to build a team that can genuinely compete is a thankless task.

His 3 years at Brighton have now earned them hundreds of millions in profit. Newcastle definitely looking at the long term and building from ground up, with a sprinkling of impact players who look excellent value already (Bruno, Botman etc). Amazing how some clubs get it so right and others get it catastrophically wrong.

Thank god some people on here aren’t running the club. Asking for £150,000 from a club with unlimited resources for one the best young talents in the football league who we have signed up on a long term contract is just a laughable idea. £2 million or the terrorists can get lost.

All good news. A young lad gets a great move, the club gets some dosh, and we get a bit of credence for developing a young player can't be bad

It's the reality of being a lower league club and it's really the purpose of the academy - bring players through and make money for the club.
Yes I'd love to have seen him develop with us but if selling him now means we have a bit more money to recruit some quality for this season then it's something we have to go for. Arguably it's very short term thinking but that is the nature of football

Good luck Travis. Get your head down and work hard. We'll be rooting for you.
So many young players get moves like this and never see the light of day in the fust team. They get loaned out and then disappear from the radar without trace. Lettuce hope Travis isn't Juan of them.
