I don’t like the idea of paying him off, hopefully he excels in his remaining time at the Gills to the extent that they pay to take him off our hands. I can see us having to loan him out again on a season loan on the day before the new season starts!! I’m prepared for this one to roll on for a bit. Yes. Unless he is very keen to leave and agreed to have his contract paid up, I can see this one dragging on.

2nd goal today, away at Northampton. I was worried when I heard he was benched so I am glad he came on and scored. Last thing we need is him stuck on our wage bill next season with no chance of playing.

a consolation goal at Northampton will make all the difference yeah Makes it more likely that he will start the next game. the fact is he is likely on a stupid wage at our club, and every other club and their agents will know that, he won't want to take a wage cut, this suggests he won't be leaving on a free anytime soon, we will have to pay him a nice chunk to vanish and thats only if he finds himself another deal to walk into, great start to next seasons budget

I think most thought we had done well to get him. Have to bite the bullet now, signings that don't fit in, career ending injury, etc. these things happen. Have to hope you sign more Udohs than O'Bs

He has been playing right midfield so what I have read at Gillingham. The likely outcome is we will be paying half his salary to off load him. Bet we are now.
I would let him rot in the under 18's make him come up here train pre season and bench him for the friendlies, he will get bored living away from home in a hotel. It will convince him to take a pay cut and move on to be closer to home.

You never know, we might give him a second chance. Water under the bridge and time apart etc, etc. Although SC doesn’t strike me as someone who hands them out for fun!!

Makes interestng reading now. Turned out to be a "body through the door", but not much life in the body. it did take me 2 weeks to give my opinion, I asked if we were going to question this sham of a signing or pretend his injury was bad luck I even linked the equally crap signing of Bennett and unfair treatment of pyke into my post ;-) the question is who would win a race between OBRIEN & BENNETT ? are we going to question these signings for the next few seasons like we did with pyke ( who wasn't actually injured when we signed him ) nope, we'll pretend its bad luck you'd think a side gambling on a threadbare squad would not risk signing crocks

he just seems to be a player who has become prone to injury.

Best wishes to him. He’s hardly played so I can’t say I’ll be watching his career too closely once he leaves us, nor am I expecting him to be too gutted to leave us!!

Been having a browse at the Gills fans forum.
They have rated him as 6/10 and would keep him. Check out this quote:
"He's clearly a classy, quality player, but I am not sure that he suits the way we play or the way the vast majority of teams play in this division - very few teams, even those at the top, play with skillful winger-types like O'Brien, who rely on skill and craft and most tend to go for quicker and/or stronger players, which isn't to say that O'Brien is weak as he's a fairly big guy and he's not slow, but for me, everything seems to slow down when he gets the ball. If we played in a different way or were in League One or above, then he would be ideal."
And another...
"For me O'Brien is a no brainer to keep.
Just as an example look at his goal from the weekend. At first it looks like it's basically just hit him and gone in, but his natural instincts are to get into a goalscoring position in case there's a chance, and it's a really good finish on the stretch. I don't think we can discount players who have that natural eye for goal. Yes, he probably wouldn't score 20 goals next season but he might hit 10 if he can stay fit. He just has an instinct to sniff out a goal, and I like that - I'd quite like to see what he can do playing directly off Hawkins/another big man like he did in his Millwall days, playing off Morison/Gregory when he hit double figures in successive League One seasons."
Are they talking about the same player??? Haha. Looks likely they might try to sign him off us then.

The sooner we can get him off the books the better. I just hope we don't have to pay him off to get him to leave.

Don’t think we’ve got the money to pay him off so he’d either leave us or train with the youth team.
