If he's loving it so bloody much I really hope the Gills take him off our hands permanently come Summer.

I hope he goes away in short jerky movements.

Are those comments enough to cancel his contract? I've no issue with him saying those things if they had bought him but he's still under contract here and clearly pointing fingers at SC etc.

Cheeky barsteward. If anyone was a bad egg at Shrewsbury I would say it was him.Just recall how the players celebrated both together and with the fans when we scored late winners during the 6 win run😁😁

Harmony in the camp? Half of the squad has only been there a matter of weeks. They haven't had time to fall out yet! The key point is at the end of the article - being much closer to home.

Come with promise but sounds like a big time Charlie to be honest, if we can recoup his wages in a fee that'll be a bonus.
No manager has a 100% record with perfect signings, some just have better records than others.

I don’t see how he can comment much on being here because he never really was!

I used to think players agents did little to earn their money but Aidens agent is brilliant in what he has done for his player. I am hoping he reads this thread and can help me. I am 75yrs old but at a simlar fitness level to Aiden. I am certain just like Aiden that I could take the odd free kick for the team as long as I am not too far away from where it is given. I have relatives down south and would like to play for a club with little ambition in the lower reaches of the football league where I can just amble about and pick up a reasonable salary. I would prefer to play for a Manager who isnt going to shout at me because I tend to sulk and I think I may pretend to be injured so I dont have to play. It would help if I could play alongside players who are not going to show me up with their fitness and talent. Look forward to hearing from you xxx

It’s pretty standard stuff for a player to go into a struggling club and make comments like this isn’t it? He’s just pointing out that it’s not your typical relegation threatened fractured dressing room.
Sometimes I think you can read too much into interviews like this. AOB was sharing tweets and posts of his teammates here after wins right up until the day he left but nobody commented on that.
He won’t be coming back to play here but this shouldn’t be the reason why.

when you gamble on , as wilbrahams put it, "injury prone & out of sorts players"
there is a good chance you end up with an out injury prone, out of sorts player
we did

O'Brien will undoubtedly go down as a disaster of a signing, he signed for us, gets injured (or fakes an injury depending on who you believe), gets fit, then has a bust up with a manager. There's no way you can put a positive spin on that. However, he was not someone coming back from a long term injury and/or someone on their last legs coming to the end of his career, someone like Leon Clarke, Ebanks-Blake, etc. He was playing for Portsmouth last season, scoring goals, playing well and they wanted to keep him. I can absolutely understand why we signed him and why most fans thought it was a coup at the time. www.hampshirelive.news/sport/football/portsmouth-aiden-obrien-contract-cowley-6759847

I saw O'Brien post a tweet recently that was supportively commented on by Dunkley and a couple of other Salop players, which may suggest he was at least popular in the dressing room.
I don't think we'll truly know what went on but obviously a bust-up with the manager at half-time during the Sunderland game looked to be the proverbial straw.
I'm sure many players have and will butt heads with Cotterill so I don't think we should be entirely surprised with the outcome.
O'Brien may feel vindicated, though he's currently playing for a side 19th in League Two and only just bagged his first goal of the season in March.
Better to cut ties and hopefully move him on somewhere permanently in the summer.

Pretty obvious (to me) he fell out with Cotterill or Wilbraham early on and went on strike to force a move ‘nearer home’….

Playing football is just a job, same as anything else. People regret job changes due to personality clashes, homesickness, all sorts of reasons all the time. This is ultimately why we have provisions for a probation period in most jobs where either party can terminate the contract without the notice period that typically applies when you've worked somewhere for longer.
Not sure why people think football is any different or why it's worth obsessing over Aiden O'Brien's every move (except as an increasingly desperate looking stick to beat our manager with).

I've mentioned before that I've heard a few players talk about Cotterill on Under the Cosh podcast, they've said he's like marmite as some love him whilst others hate him. I can imagine that there have been players who signed for us and were won over by him as he can be quite charismatic, however Id assume he can be a b@stard on the training ground so there will be some who turned against him quite quickly. He strikes me as a very controlling manager and if you don't get on board with his ideas/demands then he would turn against you, although I'm sure that's the case for plenty of managers.

Better to cut ties and hopefully move him on somewhere permanently in the summer. We dont have to move him on in the summer to another club to cut ties. We can come to an agreement about paying up his contract to make him a free agent. Obviously a cost element there so probably a last resort.

Needs to score 2 or 3 hat tricks before the end of the season, though I doubt he will on what weve seen so far this season.

Every manager in every profession needs to have the ability to be a b@stard to get the best out of employees/players. It is the ability to also switch it up and be able to put an arm around the employee/players and having the knowledge of which approach is needed with each individual at which time that dictates how effective the manager is. The evidence is there to see that SC has got this squad working themselves into the ground for him.

Why don’t we just tell him to either find his own club by the end of the summer break or report back with his head in the right place. Call his bluff, he’ll soon get sick of reporting in every day and travelling too and from London or living away from home…. Would make him think twice about sitting out his contract or at least put us in a better negotiating position.
