Not bothered at all sooner he goes and we get a suitable replacement in the better. 100% agree, not sure of the circumstance of this but it sounds like some sort of bust up happened at half time last week, its very unusual for a player to walk away so I won't count my chickens just yet

If that was the case (Just speculating) maybe it was O'Brien who didn't want to come out for the second half, and not the other way round. Maybe SC has just had enough of O'Brien's lack of commitment and that was the issue on the day. SC's post match remarks didn't sound to me like it was due to a player wanting to continue, it sounded more like a player refusing to play. I would imagine we'll never know the truth. But if i was a betting man i wouldn't go with the being nearer to his family option.

It’s all speculation but agree with the above. Elements of doubt were definitely creeping into Cotterill’s interviews about the injury. I think AOB came away limping from an early challenge in that start against Sunderland and I just wonder if at half time he said he could ‘feel something’, something SC has said specialists can’t find and the rest is history.
Or maybe not. We’ll never know.

Of course we have no idea what h as gone on in his personal life that might have affected his desire to play and/or his judgement.
It could be that SC is using the being nearer to his family reason to cover not only himself but also whatever is going on with the player.
Who was it we had that Mickey Mellon was so professional about when he didn’t play him? It turned out in the end that the player had severe problems at that time but that MM and the club behaved in just the right way to help him.
I don’t think we should speculate about anything at the moment.

Unless I've missed something, the club have not said anything about the future of O'Brien, it's come from the media.

To say this move hasn’t worked out for the club or player is an understatement, but that’s life. I guess this means Bowman will certainly not be allowed to leave in this window unless an adequate replacement is found.

Bowman should be being used far more than he currently is. 13 goals last season even though he was quite hit and miss, Saydee has some way to get to that number still.

I'm led to believe the tootle situation with us was almost very tragic and not helped by actions from then captain lee Lawrence its times like these that the club used to send subtle hints asking for us to keep certain rumours off the board if we could and we always obliged now they tell us nothing so speculation is rife

Back to O’Brien, if family lives in Islington, move to Arsenal would be ideal.

Where would he fit in to the current formation though? You can’t drop Saydee and there is no way that Bowman would do the leg work that the much-maligned Street does. If we played with wingers (not going to happen) or more effective wing backs who could beat a full back and deliver a cross, then Bowman would be ideal. Last season we had Bennett, Ogbeta (for a while) and Nurse. Just looking at last season’s goal tally doesn’t tell the whole story. As for Saydee, I wouldn’t bet against him getting at least another seven from 21 games.

Really hasn’t worked out this one. Rotten luck for town as SC pulled off a marquee signing beating Portsmouth to his signature. I’d guess the highest earner in the squad and he’s been injured all season and now wants out

Sounds the same as Lee Steele wanting to be closer to Liverpool so signs for Brighton, then Orient

Just to clarify my earlier post I wish Aiden O'Brien all the best with his future I bear him no malice, there are many considerations when playing around the country and being close to family and friends can be one of those.
However it is important Shrewsbury utilise their resources as best they can and if that means a possibility of freeing up salary and a replacement incoming we have until the end of the month to facilitate this. We can but leave it in the hands of those who have their finger on the pulse of the situation and the possibilities.
If a replacement comes in or not I feel we can still achieve a mid table position with the current squad.

Do we need to replace him in this transfer window?
Given that he's not figured at all it's not as if we've missed him on the pitch.

I'd say a LWB is essential if we get the opportunity to bring someone in, as harsh as it sounds this would be a good opportunity to replace Nurse, shipley is just totally wasted there and costs us goals

I'm assuming we intended to start the season with Udoh & O'Brien as our first choice front two, we would have neither for the rest of the season. We would therefore be left with two inexperienced loan players (who are hardly prolific), Bowman (who Cotterill doesn't want to play) and Pyke & Bloxham (who Cotterill doesn't want to play as strikers). I expect Roland would be delighted if we could just get him off the wage bill and bring no one else in, but I'd very disappointed if Cotterill was happy with what he's got

I don't think the manager was asked about him directly.

Perhaps he has personal off field problems that we don't know about?

if he's on 4K a week that's currently £120,000 per hour we've paid for him for league football
