Have just been speaking to a colleague on the early shift who went with her ten year old daughter, she goes to a lot of football (mens and womens) and says it was one of the best atmospheres sheās ever experienced. Quite the comparison with when I last saw England mens v Turkey a few years back and felt so ashamed of fans behaviour when I reflected on it that Iāve never felt the urge to go back since.
I see that women getting out of the kitchen and onto the pitch has triggered the usual dinosaurs.....

I think it's entirely reasonable to take the position that you wish women's football all the luck in the world but at the same time wouldn't open your curtains to watch it if they were playing in your garden. It gets a disproportionate 'leg up' by the media - particularly the BBC who's guilt complex about the gender pay gap and the fact it is one of the few live sports it has the rights to means it is incessantly pushed in our faces to the point where men and women headline articles on the Sport page are no longer distinguishable. The inevitable fanfare of England winning the Euros for what will allegedly be its "first major trophy since 1966" would be laughable if not so utterly demented. Agree with the first bit. Don't see a lot of ill feeling just that some just aren't interested because of the standard. I've no doubt that plenty will dip in later if England are doing well, mind. I don't think the leg up is disproportionate. Its England and Northern Ireland and as you say, the BBC don't have the rights to too many sporting events so makes sense they will look to make the most of it. And of course, they want you to watch (so of course they are going to advertise it as much as they can to try and get as many to do so). Even if you are football fan you might not know this is going on otherwise. And whilst the competition is ongoing its going to be on the front pages, why wouldn't or shouldn't it be? You might not be watching but plenty of others are (look to the attendance last night). International football is slightly different granted and I remember in 2014 getting on the hype bus a little bit while I was travelling and England got to the semis. It's more the WSL and the extra publicity it grants to the clubs that need it the least - Man Utd/City, Chelsea, Liverpool. In a perfect world there would be enough coverage for everyone but there's a blatant disregard in the mainstream media for the EFL/pyramid clubs who's survival is paramount to local communities and are much more worthy of a "leg up" than those I've just mentioned.

Not sure it would make for pulsating TV but by all accounts it would be more entertaining than the game last night.

Why didnāt the defender clear the second off the line? Just letās it roll past her into the goal. Really odd.

Norway 4-1 Northern Ireland FT
Thought it might have been 5 or 6 judging from the opening quarter of an hour they were shocking but drawing the second half made it a little bit respectable and one of the best strikers in the Womens game Hedberg didnāt manage to score.

Felt sorry for N. Ireland when I heard that the majority of their players arenāt with pro. club . Most work during the week at other jobs whereas their opponents are trained and coached and paid as pros. with clubs all over Europe. Puts things in perspective I think . I shall be watching their games with interest as the tournament progresses , or should I say for their next 2 matches. They just cannot compete at this level .

I coach a girls` team and was disappointed that UEFA aren`t giving us any freebies!
I went to Sweden v Netherlands and it was a fantastic spectacle, 21000 there. Got tickets for other matches including semi final.

I can honestly say I will not watch 1 minute of it...just as I never watched a second of Wimbledon...and will not watch any of the Commonwealth Games.

an early goal from a penalty was the best start and if Norway's plan were planning to score from a counter attack then it blew that plan out of the water.however it was never a penalty and i dont understand why it did not go to Var but a stunning first half as England were clinical in a first half goal fest . but Norway looked weak on there left side and did not change anything which i found odd, the defenders looked shell shocked as they went off. can England be ruthless and add to the goal tally and keep a clean sheet.

to be totally honest, I've switched over now, I would probably have done the same no matter who was playing men or women, all that we happen now is the coach will say save your energy, keep the ball , pass it around
