Madeley doesn't know what 2 degrees warming will look like. And what's more he doesn't give a damn. The thing is no one in the entire world knows for sure what 2 degrees warming will look like and the world's popuation have to feed cloth and keep warm and a large proportion of them cannot afford to give a damn unless the gulf between the rich and poor of this world is addressed. The rich might not want to level things out or curtail their foreign holidays and consumption.
We are getting this "climate emergency" message, but whose going to heed it if it stops them doing all the things they like to do?
There's only one way it's going to work, do the things we do, but cut the emmissions. For example, electric taxis, but very efficiant petrol out in the country. The effects of making batteries for cars, improving the National Drid to charge them, etc. are all factors to consider and it's the same for any radical solution proposed,
The thing is the scientists have a very good idea. And what they foresee means that we should be operating on the basis of a precautionary motive rather than waiting to be 100 per cent certain. Not understanding the science isn't an argument against the science.

Madeley doesn't know what 2 degrees warming will look like. And what's more he doesn't give a damn. Nor do you, and nor does anyone for that matter. The fact you defend these nutters sums you up. Every post you write sums you up.

Madeley doesn't know what 2 degrees warming will look like. And what's more he doesn't give a damn. Richard Madeley is of zero importance in this debate and to suggest otherwise is churlish. They've caused the paralysis of an (I imagine) elderly woman through their actions; how is this legal? When the police go after a criminal in a car chase, they don't mow down pedestrians to gain a two-second advantage. Why are allowing the vital daily functions of society (literally to a life-or-death degree) and climate activism mutually exclusive? They could just as easily do this to the Cop26, where they would have more effect and gather huge international attention, which makes me think this whole thing is very poorly planned. Whoever delegated this visibly-uncomfortable woman to give an atrocious account of herself and the movement on live national TV got it very badly wrong, too. There's not much empathy from her either: ''my family is in danger'', well, someone else's family (in fact many others) have had pretty grave consequences too from your deliberate, ill-thought actions. Incorrect. Richard Madeley is very important. He is on national freely framing the situation as he does. People then think that they are being clever by saying "they should be insulating their homes rather than sitting in front of cars. You can't - and shouldn't try - to have a debate with those people. It's a waste of energy. I'm not interested in whether she has media training. She allowed Madely to use his to show himself to be a fool.

Madeley doesn't know what 2 degrees warming will look like. And what's more he doesn't give a damn. 2 degree warming will (probably) mean a different lifestyle for future generations. But that is no different to the fact that we have had a different lifestyle to our parents, grandparents, etc. It's called evolution. Whatever the do gooders are trying to change wont make a huge amount of difference, change will happen anyway. Christ. At current trajectories we're looking at 2 degrees warming to be breached in 2041 with a range from 2032 to 2053. Human beings have never lived in such temperatures. 2 degree warming is an average. As we have seen the polar regions are warming more rapidly than other parts of the globe. In non-polar regions and at current temperature we are seeing mass deaths of flora and fauna.

Road blocks in Sicily. Climate change as a process where you see a different phone video of someone’s life being destroyed by cataclysmic weather each week until you’re the one taking the video

Please explain what your issue is with people 'doing good'? Do-gooders don't strike me as the problem. The selfish 'do as I like-ers' on the other hand...

What exactly was it that he said which you consider unfair or irrelevant? In fairness, he didn't really get round to many questions with such an unwilling participant. If Insulate Britain are setting themselves up to be cannon fodder for the press (in particular right-wing) then that's their fault, and if they had a bit more nous they would have managed things better and not made vast swathes of the country despise them; it's called image. Unless you're Chairman Mao, your power to bend others to your will is very limited, thus you need to convince them, and this woman couldn't have made a worse impression if she'd tried. Love him or loathe him, our current PM has had success based on his charisma and likeability (and a great deal of bad, too). Most people agree that these are important characteristics in leadership. We've had Greta Thunberg, who must have been one of the most influential teenagers in history and then there's this lot. As the woman in the pink put it "what makes you the most important voice on climate change?" There are other activists and campaigns that could have done with their help, they could have manifested at the Cop26 (like I said) with greater effect and the world watching, but no. My sympathy lies with the public, many of whom are as worried about the world as IB are.

If he did anything else he wouldn't have been sitting in the studio presenting the programme. Ditto cement man on Talkradio and Jeremy Vine. Insulating every home in the country to the hoghest standard isan extreme political policy that, because of the mobilisation of resources involved, would challenge BAU. And that won't be allowed to happen.

I wasn't a fan of the young hysterical Greta, but she comes across a lot better now, then again she was merely a child and was probably influenced somewhat.
She came across really well on the Andrew Marr show. Mature, calm & collected. We need more people like this and absolutely none like Insulate Britain.

Unfortunately our government need pressure to get results, not saying they’re going about it the right way (insulate Britain) but then The Greenham Common protesters wouldn’t have got anywhere without breaking the law.

I would far sooner trust young Greta and the proven liar and cheat Boris. If I’m to be misled I’d rather it be by someone naive acting with best intentions than someone doing it deliberately to line their pocket.

Well, guess who's back! www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10155731/Officers-swoop-Insulate-Britain-activists-M25.htmlInsulate Britain activists spread their protests UK-wide today as 60 of the eco zealots tried to blockade motorways in Manchester, Birmingham and Hertfordshire during rush hour as their demonstrations entered an eighth week. A team of 12 demonstrators stopped traffic on the M56 near Manchester Airport, while another group brought chaos to the A4400 in Birmingham - marking the first time Insulate Britain has targeted either city. The environmental activists also hoped to blockade the M25 at junction 23 for the South Mimms service station in Hertfordshire, but police swooped on them before they could get onto the road and could cause mayhem.

I see the authorities managed to ensure no climate protesters would be sent to jail during the summit. But they do say, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Hopefully he'll c**p himself at leisure during his stay in jail.
He should just think himself lucky no-one ran him over. Anti-social idiot.

You've got to be ready to do the time if you've done the crime. And then after you've done the time do the crime again and repeat. To expect people to see that you are doing something for the "right reasons" ia naive. Get your s**t together or don't get involved.
Roads in and out of Vancouver are blocked today, I see.

There were 42 deaths involving crashes of police vehicles in 2018/19, of which 30 happened during police pursuits.

We were only remembering Aberfan on here a week or so ago. I've been reading some material sent to me by a Canadian friend. 1) forest areas denuded by the summer fires have contributed to the run off. That's a nice example of positive feedbacks. 2) Similar denuding from logging increasing run off. The number of areas involved is entirely unprecedented. There was a similar incident in one of the areas affected several decades ago. Man-made processes kicking off a natural process - which is what climate change is, in a nutshell.

Mud slides and flooding have different causes, not all of them natural. We were only remembering Aberfan on here a week or so ago. I didn't realise they had coal mines in British Columbia. You learn something every day. Who mentioned coal? Don't know what your point is here, but anyway, since you raised it: www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/mineral-exploration-mining/british-columbia-geological-survey/geology/coal-overviewThat piece begins: "Coal mining is a major industry in British Columbia. Coal production employs thousands of people and coal sales generate billions of dollars in annual revenue. Coal production currently represents over half of the total mineral production revenues in the province."More on that storm that caused the flooding in BC: 'The provincial minister of transportation, Rob Fleming, told a news conference it was the "worst weather storm in a century". Minister of public safety, Mike Farnworth, said he had "no doubt" that the storm was linked to climate change. Thousands of homes in British Columbia were evacuated after an "atmospheric river" - a long strip of moisture in the atmosphere that transports water from tropical regions towards the poles - dumped the region's monthly rainfall average in just 24 hours.'This comes after the province suffered a 50 degree heatwave and 569 heat related deaths in June - July. All perfectly normal? I ask again (with heavy sarcasm) - what climate emergency? Meanwhile, in the UK, we're gloating about the jailing of Insulate Britain protesters.
