Quote from player at Bristol City.. Aaron Wilbraham “He came in on the first day of pre-season and said he wanted to win the league and you could see he wasn’t just saying it. I know a lot of managers probably say that to the team on the first day back, but you could see he really meant it. “He set out from the start of the season the way he wanted us to play and he makes sure everyone knows their jobs. Every week, no matter who we are playing, the attention to detail on the other team and the way he prepares us has been unbelievable. You go into every game confident you already know what the other team is going to try and do against you. That has been the key. He has had us really organised, made us play football, made us feel confident on the ball, and it has been a really successful season Sounds like something I want to hear!! Looks and sounds like just what we need.

I think its important to look at his record in this division which is pretty decent.
We asked the club for more experience and we have that in Cotterill. Yes not worked for 2 years but he knows football at this level and still has some seriously useful contacts within the game and an eye for a player.
Very happy.

Bravely stepping up to the plate before a potential FA Cup banana skin in just a couple of days too. This man means business.

He ticks the ‘experienced manager at this level’ box and he has a good CV. However, the length of the deal did make me raise an eyebrow.
Overall though, I'm pretty happy with this appointment. I wanted Hurst - no point in trying to deny that - but this good. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does.

Not what I expected and not sure what I think, but it certainly ticks the experience box, and he has got some excellent achievements over the years.
3 and a half year deal is mega. That is a commitment.
Definitely more excited than I have been in a while so fingers crossed!

Happy with this good experience seems to not take any messing club have backed him with length of contract. Ticks a lot of boxes now needs to install belief in the squad and get the best out of them

The exact opposite of the Askey and Ricketts appointments. They've clearly learned their lesson and I'm glad to see that Roland's innate charm finally wore him down.
Cotterill also has the added bonus of having a Cancer star sign, which, according to the high authority of Google, makes him emotional, intense and also extremely intuitive and compassionate. Plus he knows how to dish out a good bollocking when it's needed.

Intrigued on his backroom staff too. I think that's an area Ricketts didn't do that well with and needs some work.
The two staff we have already he will know though - Jensen he managed at Burnley and he will have worked with Andy Johnson at Birmingham.

I've been critical of Roland's appointments but credit where it's due here, 3 & 1/2 year shows ambition, it's a great appointment. It’s also a bloody big wedge to pay out should (& let’s all he doesn’t) fail - huge gamble with such a lengthy deal

I knew we had been linked before, wasn’t sure if it was before or after Mickey Mellon. Big change of policy by the Board. He needs to hit the ground running. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the length of contract, I’m sure there will be get outs, if required. Hope he is still here in 3 years time, as it means we will be doing ok, but I have my doubts

The comment on the article about how he’s won both league one and league two, coupled with the length of the contract tells me he’ll be the man trusted to get us back up should he not be able to keep us up this year.

Many years ago I heard his players had played poorly. He told them he wanted them in on Sunday for extra training When they turned up he wasn't there 30 minutes later he phoned in and said you can go home- now the players were annoyed why are we here they asked ? Steve said yesterday you p**sed me off today I am p**sing you off ! I heard this in casualty in Hereford hospital where a Cheltnehma player was being treated for an injury so assume its true but if its not I hope that is his attitude bit surprised its 3.5 years deal and hope it works out

whatever our feeling about this appointment it would be great if we can all get behind him. we know there are issues with the team we are not here because we are defending well and that will take some time to sort out, also players dont suddenly get fit and that will also take time.

He ticks all the boxes for me. Mind you, there was only the Juan box, which said, "anybody but Hurst".

You could hardly blame him - we were struggling in L1 as we are now and he went on to join Birmingham in the Championship. I reckon if he wants to be in the Championship now, it’ll have to be with STFC.

Very much a statement of intent.
An absolutely massive appointment - very pleased.
His track record is superb, especially at this level.
Noted a few people have noted his time at Brum as a black mark, BCFC are all over the shop off the pitch, especially taking over 'Arrys mad summer of spending, his successors have hardly thrived.
All in all a very positive move. Hopefully the long term contract is a signal he's treating this as a project rather than a stopgap.
Welcome.

Good appointment with a great track record in L1 and no previous affiliation with Wrexham or Telford as far as I can see on Wikipedia. It also seems to have upset a load of Paul Hurst fanboys on Twitter, so that's a bonus.

I’m not thrilled by this appointment but will of course back the new manager. Good to see that we have gone for someone with a lot of experience.
His last spell was a disaster at Birmingham City. One of my close friends (supports Brum) said he has a massive ego and will just lose his temper frequently at players. Maybe we need that, Sam was a bit “too nice”.
Fingers crossed anyway, if it clicks, we could be watching some entertaining football.
