Good old EFL_HUB (where did I put the bag of salt??)
Seems unlikely as he's predominantly a right back, 31, and doesn't seem to fit the "sprinkle of stardust" to add qaulity to the squad SR says he's looking for

Not clear what’s happened there, but I imagine he will get a championship club. Maybe rejoin Warnock at Middlesbrough

The ITK Twitter accounts are so tiresome and so rarely true. But yet consistently get bandied around. Maybe it's quite fun making rumours up - maybe it is a bit of a skill to generate ones that may have a semblance of truth?

We do need to strengthen the squad urgently. Today's Star ....
"The Town boss admits he is content with the ‘solid’ squad he has assembled this summer, but is now looking for a sprinkling of stardust to boost his Shrewsbury XI.
The Shropshire Star understands Ricketts is still aiming to fill a couple of positions to ‘dramatically’ improve his ranks, ideally with genuine League One quality.
“We are always looking to add quality and when the opportunity comes we need to take it,” said Ricketts, who still has five weeks of the window remaining to conclude his business.
“At some point there will be but as and when I’m not entirely sure to be honest.
“We’re sorted in terms of the squad. The only bits we’re trying to add is if something becomes available to dramatically improve the team.
“Our squad is solid, it’s good, but we’re always trying to improve.
“We saw the standard of where the players were at, it’s my job now to add quality to it. There’s no guarantees we can.
“But if we can add something to come into this starting XI, and bearing in mind the players missing (at Middlesbrough), then it bodes well.”

We do need to strengthen the squad urgently. I think its been a summer of reducing the risk around costs, and i don't think thats a bad thing as i can see a lot of clubs struggling in 6 months. But this season may be a bit of a struggle. The squad is worse than last season, and other squads have on the whole improved. Despite that, I would prefer this method to throwing the cheque book at signings. I expect a few more in of a relatively similar ilk to what we have had so far. Hardly any experience, but cheap and deemed worth a punt. If any new signings over the next few weeks and Daniels, High and Pyke turn into first team players who are scoring then it may be ok, if not, its a relegation battle or worse.

Where is it worse than last season? I ask because I don't have the impression there's been that much movement and what movement there has been doesn't immediately say to me the squad's noticeably weaker. What's worse than a relegation battle by the way? Administration?

We do need to strengthen the squad urgently. Really? I think a couple of quality loans completes us. We might flirt with the top half, but the remit as always from Roland will be "20th or above".

What's worse than a relegation battle by the way? Administration? I was about to say much the same. Beckles, O'Leary, Laurent, Giles and Okenabirhie are the only players from the start of last season who made notable contributions and are no longer here. Arguably only O'Leary would walk into the current team. Judging by what we saw at Middlesbrough (admittedly it would be rash to judge our prospects on just that game) there is a lot more cohesion in the current squad and definitely more enterprise. Nothing in my opinion that says we should be anywhere lower than mid-table.

It is too early to say whether the current squad is weaker than last seasons and there may be a couple of additions yet. Ricketts does seem to have more attacking intent than last year and that is to be applauded - it should provide us with a few more wins even if it does cost us occasionally. With crowds not coming back any time soon and finances for some clubs very tight there are more unknowns than usual for the new season.

We are not weaker in any position bar the goalkeeper, but he's currently on international duty. We now have Sears to fill in at right back and centre back. We have Barnett, Rowland in midfield backup.
We now have a plan A of wingers and if all fails we have a plan B revert back to Cummings upfront play wing backs and 5 in midfield.
The squad looks pretty well blended, yes we aren't going to win the league but I think we will finish higher than 15th pushing for 12th.

We are starting the season with only a 32 year old scott golbourne as a senior left back, we don't even have Beckles to play there if Scott gets injured. The only option would be to play Sears out of position there. That's just asking for trouble imo.

Golbourne finished the curtailed last season well and looked in excellent form at Boro in his natural position (rather than wing back where he lacks pace). However, you are right to point out the lack of cover in that position. This has to be a priority for recruitment soon, although too late for the Pompey game. A young left back, probably on loan, would fit the bill, someone who could learn a lot by watching how SG reads the game and uses the ball effectively.

Roland is more ambitious than that. Under the current circumstances (which are the same for all clubs) I suggest the target will be play offs with relative success being a top half finish.

Don’t let me down Town.

I would say O'Leary, Fey, beckles and Laurent were all players who started last season being considered solid league one players due to them all having a year under their belt at this level (or playing some games in champ as O'Leary had). I'm not sure you can say the same about any of the additions so far, and other squad players equally don't have that experience - Barnett, Udoh, Walker, Burgoyne. That isn't to say they won't turn good but at the moment too many question marks over players imo. If players become injured or need to miss games due to the busy schedule I don't think the squad can manage that at present. Pierre, Norburn, Golbourne, Whalley, Cummings all have fairly minimal back ups

Otherwise I think we have a decent squad

We definitely need another left back, unless there's someone else in the squad who can play well there. Loanee perhaps?

Pierre, Norburn, Golbourne, Whalley, Cummings all have fairly minimal back ups I take your point but, as the season went on, I thought Okenabirhie was poor and O'Leary not as good as I'd expected. Udoh may not have much experience at this level but he certainly did enough last season to show he can hold his own. I'd also question your earlier remark that other clubs have strengthened. How do we know that? By strengthened you mean they've signed players but that doesn't always improve a squad, otherwise the standards in League 1 would get higher every season and we know that's not the case. As the wise Mr Klopp said yesterday, everyone wants to talk about signings, nobody wants to talk about training.

Might be better to just go with loanees for now and see how the season goes. I think it probable that some more clubs are going to fold and we might pick up better bargains in the January window

We all want a proven 20 goal a year man too of course but we’re not going to compete for one of those and will need to hope one of the current recruits outperforms on current expectations
