this feels like Wembley groundhog day all over again; town had stage fright / over awed by Anfield which lasted for the first half. all credit to a well schooled liverpool youth team who controled the game , were good on the ball and had town on the back foot for lengthy periods of the game. disapointed that town were unable to replicate the performance from the previous game, disapointed that towns goal was disalowed by VAR feel very sorry for poor williams to score an own goal that put us out of the game but Liverpool desrverd the win frustrated we just blew a great chance to get through to the fith round We stood off, sat back and allowed them to dictate and therefore allowed a young side who may have been nervous to grow in confidence. totally agree

PS: thought the Liverpool fans were great! Never got on the kids backs once, just constant encouragement! I think Town fans can learn something from them! Id sort of agree with that, but cant see it sinking in with our fans on B&A tonight given posts in the half hour ... Hopefully everyone will have calmed down by the morning.

Once we put a few crunching tackles into them at the start of the second half they completely fell to pieces and the game was for the taking. We lost tonight again because of horrendous mistakes defensively and it’s snowballing for me. fair enough

I think the Town fans being interviewed on Radio Shropshire just now must have been on the pop all night. Dominated the game? Play like that in the league and we'll be alright? etc.

Fortunately there will be fresh faces to bring in on Saturday. In his post match interview Ricketts referred to us being flat tonight, being too passive and have played 39 games already this season, but it's disappointing to hear him have to use the latter.

There's a line on the BBC website, it says "Youngest side in Liverpool's history beat Shrewsbury 1-0"! Now let that sink in! A group of mostly experienced professionals got beaten by a bunch of kids! And easily beaten!

Just knew that VAR would be used against us. It should be remembered that we had the rub of the green with decisions in the first match when, if VAR had been in place, we may may have had a penalty given against Pierre for handball in the first half and the foul on Laurent for the Town penalty may have been adjudged to have been just outside the box.

Hate to say it, but a fairly accurate, unbiased opinion!

Isn't that the same team that best Everton in last round?

Isn't that the same team that best Everton in last round? No, that was more similar to the side we played in the first match. The side they fielded tonight was about the same as that beaten 3-2 by Oldham in the EFL Trophy earlier this season.

Isn't that the same team that best Everton in last round? Only 4 of tonight's team played in that one.

"Ricketts’ challenge was to ensure his players did not play the venue or the jersey in front of them. As his players spent much of the resembling fathers trying to retrieve the ball from their young children, it was difficult to avoid the possibility they may have been more intimidated than necessary. A tie which cast Shrewsbury as the underdogs seeking to put the arrogant upstarts who dared demean the FA Cup was somewhat transformed as the visitors showed little ambition, as if they were trying to withstand Mo Salah rather than Canadian international Liam Millar. It was a curious approach summed up when Shrewsbury won their first corner after 24 minutes. Their physical superiority seemingly the most likely source of victory, they opted to play it short and the chance was squandered. The game was evolving as a poor advert for League One, Ricketts’ side struggling to knit any passing patterns or pressurise an inexperienced defence, albeit we should note Ki-Jana Hoever and Sepp Van Der Berg are Dutch internationals and their technique demonstrated as much."

To compound a bad night it sounds like Whalley has done his hamstring and will be out for a few weeks.

Inspector Swan seemed to correctly imply it was Golbourne a few hours ago.
