Nice touch in Askey's interview on iFollow. His phone went off while 000 was talking about players contacting him already and he said as quick as a flash: "It's Messi." In my opinion Mr Breadstick wouldn't be impressed with that signing.

We need a striker as no 1 target. Question is do we look to target a lower league goalscorer or go for one out of favour at a championship club? What we end up with will be an indication of our ambition for this season. Doidge of FGR or Abo Eisa’s brother at Cheltenham would be great signings but doubt we will have the £££ to prise them away from their clubs, well maybe a lifetime supply of Shropshire’s finest veggie burgers to FGR may work...

Just looked at some YouTube footage of Mitch Hancox, can play left back or left wing and came through the Birmingham City academy, would give more competition down that side of the field presuming that JB signs his contract offer and can enable Omar Beckles to get back in the middle which could be even more significant if a club comes in with a bid for Toto, along with Scott Wilson he’s a free agent, I think we will sign at least one of these two ‘Macc Lads’.

If we are looking at potential gems from outside the football league then how about ex Newtown winger/striker Jason Oswell, now at Stockport County. 24 goals last season.

Newtown local team and was always impressed by him, was a shame when he left for Stockport and Newtown certainly missed his goals this season. Didn’t track his progress so wasn’t aware he did so well season gone.

I will make the same prediction as I have for a number of years, our so called potential targets will sign for other clubs and fans will go into meltdown over us apparently missing out on these players. The majority of the players we sign will not be on any of ours lists for potential targets
Remember that it won't just be Askeys targets, our scouts will have been looking at players for a number of months now and expect those same players will be given to Askey to decide whether he wants to progress with them.

Why are good signings from the cranberry sauce leagues always 'gems'? Why can't they be any other precious stone?
No more questions

Could be one to watch as Eisa would be nowhere near Cardiff first team so a loan deal to a top league one team would be ideal.

Eisa is more use staying with us at the moment. Currently he plays without fear and is fast, two attributes that will make him dangerous. He should have been on the bench in the final......that’s another story and history.

The article was just press speculation from three months ago. Since then Cardiff have been promoted to the premier league and all the players they are currently being linked to are premier league players. Omar Bogle might be a good loan signing from them but of course his link was with Hurst who he played for at Grimbsy.

Way out of our range and to be honest I wouldn't want a player like that as part of a squad of grafters on a third of that at best .

If we have some money to spend we can look to the Championship. Le Fondre is getting on a bit but would score goals in league 1 or even bring Bradshaw back to the club. Either of those two would work well with Payne. I don't know how much money we have but my guess is that it is not massive From comments made by Brian Caldwell in recent interviews I do not think there is that much. He talked about the match by match P&L analysis being made for each match and very little or any profit being made ( my words not his). In one of Henderson's interviews he commented on getting promoted so that they get the bonus / rewards they deserve. This would indicate that their contracts are heavily insentivised - which on the basis of last season they deserve everything they got. People mention the two finals but do we actually make anything of these?

George Long, a goalkeeper, has been mentioned on social media as someone who may interest us. Wimbledon appreciated him last year roysviewfrom.com/2018/05/09/loan-update-wimbledon-fans-views-on-george-long-5/ . Names mentioned above certainly did well in their level played last season i.e. Oswell and Danny Johnson and dependent on the new number two to John Askey do not be surprised if one or two from National league level are brought in, e.g. Scott Barrow Gateshead, a good left back. We can say well thats fine but that is a number of levels below us, but these players have to start somewhere and the ability of a manager or coach to spot talent he can nurture is very important. Look at our young player Eisa would you sat he has the ability to succeed at league one level? If so remember he was signed from Wealdstone in the Vanarama National league South three levels below us. It is exciting times agai, we will be building a squad to compete once more and we must be realistic about our prospects, I am confident John Askey and his team will compete well in league one but remember it him five years to win the National league building and inproving all the time, hopefully on our player budget and with the foundations laid he can achieve success sooner than that whilst giving us some exciting games along the way. Welcome to STFC John & ?

Welcome to STFC John & ? we have to live within our budget and getting players from the lower league and from our own academy who can be developed seems the way to go . after nearly getting promoted it is understandable that expectations have been raised but personally i feel if we can develop and build and make steady progress that will be more sustainable either in league 1 or higher .

I'm not sure about targets, there'll likely be a few surprises as always.
I just hope one or two of the younger lads in the squad are able to step up, Christos Shelis in particular looked impressive last pre-season.

I do feel (well hope) that a few of last years fringe players who couldn’t get game time as the team pretty much picked itself will show themselves to be better players this time round, either due to getting full games or playing a slightly different system.
Gnahua, Eisa, Jones, LJL, Hendrie, Payne. I’m sure they are all better than they were able to show in their limited appearances last season.

Peterborough (and now ourselves to a smaller extent) have proved that bringing in Non League players into League 1 if moulded into a decent, hard working side, I’d expect most of our signings to come from there this summer, as for the possibility of loaning promising youngsters from PL/Championship clubs, I’m not sure if JA has many contacts in that field, but with Macc being very close to Manchester I’d be surprised if he didn’t.

I have high hopes for Jones, I thought he looked quality in the couple of times I saw him. I think Eisa has the potential to be very exciting and I think Payne is a very good forward at our level. (I personally preferred him to Morris, though I appreciated what he offered the team and why he was picked.) Add those to Whalley and Rodman and we have some good attacking options.
I fully expect Nolan, Toto and Ogogo to go sadly. But we will get fees for two and they will free up some wages for new players.
I expect us to keep Sadler, Beckles, Bolton, Brown and Morris so that already feels like a side that should stay up. So with some good new additions we could challenge for the play offs again.
