Can't be too harsh on Hurst I guess as it's Ipswich that did wrong by going to his agent before they'd got permission from Shrewsbury. Once they had done that then of course his agent would tell him, and you can't then unknow something once told. I'm guessing he told his agent to deal with it once the play offs were done. At least we are getting a fairly clean break and hopefully will have his successor in place reasonably quickly.

can not believe half the s**t i am reading..... the only thing i surprised about is that he did not go in Jan.... nice to see a Manager leave by going up and not into oblivion. He got tapped up.... so what... happens all the time.... Good Luck Paul Hurst.... thanks for a great season. Can you not see why a fair few fans are ****ing fuming that a guy who bangs on and on all season about hard work , professionalism and class back channels to a club in the division above a few days/weeks before fans of current club spend hundreds of pounds to watch one of the most abject, weak and frankly pathetic performances by any shrewsbury team in recent history in a play off final . It might 'happen all the time' but that doesn't excuse utterly s**tty conduct by a man who supposedly prides himself on acting with ethics and the spirit of the game. If your problem is more with fans reaction to this than the man responsible for the anger and the upset well . I don't know. The people on this thread upset at Hurst have been let down badly. Most have been to a combined total of thousands of games this season. Sure I suppose we should just accept it and get on with it but it doesn't make it any less right. to be honest.... No...

I know I’m in the minority here, but I really don’t get the hate toward Paul Hurst. He and Doig worked absolute wonders to get us where they did. I enjoyed probably the best season I can remember supporting town. So many fabulous memories, and a team to be proud of. We always knew he would probably leave, it was inevitable. And for all this rubbish about how it effected the team at Wembley, we put in two of, arguably, the best performance’s of the season during the semi’s!! He stuck with us in January when he was being linked with other jobs, tried to get us promoted, and ultimately deserves a change in a higher division. Think some are forgetting we’re yet to hear both sides of this story. Be interested to see Hurst’s side of things. Enjoy what he brought us, stop the negativity. A lot of supporters of this club have only known managers to be sacked. When a manager successfully moves on to another club more often than not his previous employers act like a wounded animal ( just ask Grimsby). It's the way of the world & it's certainly the way in football. People move on to better themselves career wise. Good luck to Paul Hurst & Chris Doig. They deserve the opportunity. Best they left quickly ( no time would be perfect). Don't forget the Transfer window closes earlier this time around so leaving this any longer could affect players livelihoods. Wish him all the best, thanx for the memories & move on. We as a club are certainly in a better place because of him. Now we go onwards to the next chapter in our history. COYB

Some of this is fairly embarrassing to read. Paul didn't put a foot wrong in any significant way whilst he was here and gave the fans the most enjoyable season at the third tier for almost 40 years. He's moved onto a bigger job which no doubt can pay him more and which I for one hope he is a roaring success in. Good luck Paul. I hope your successor can get us another crack at the play offs or even the top 2 next year. Its been a hell of a lot of fun. He still would of come out of this better with the Shrewsbury fans if he'd just come out 3 weeks ago and said yes this is my final season. I truly believe the club have known for weeks, that's the chairman and the players, let's face it 90% of us fans did and the players surely knew too.

Wouldn't it be interesting if he couldn't agree terms with Ipswich, where would that leave him?

Personally would have felt far more comfortable if BC had come out and said that he and Roland spoke to Hurst weeks ago and he had confided in them at that time about what was going on, but wanted to keep it confidential for obvious reasons. As it is it all just seems a bit disappointing and underhand, especially given our season was built on togetherness and trust.
Apart from that I’m starting to get over it all. I do wonder if our lack of tactical flexibility would have been our downfall the longer time went on, especially if we lost one or two of our most influential players. There’s some similarities between our season and Leicester’s when they won the Premiership. They never quite had that same intensity the following season, particularly after loosing Kante and after all the transfer speculation affecting their remaining players.
We’d have certainly lost Ogogo and possibly others so we could have ended up having a very average season, even with Hurst at the helm. His interview a few days ago suggested he thought the same, which was of concern. Of course we still could have that average season or worse, nothing is guaranteed, but Roland doesn’t have a bad record with his recent managerial appointments, particularly in their initial time here, so I think there’s reasons to be optimistic.
As an aside Hurst never came across as a man particularly loyal to the club. Whilst I don’t mind this as ultimately it’s a results business, I’d say I was more disappointed with how the Mellon tenure ended, particularly with the adverserial relationship which developed with the fans, because of the way he engaged with the community work and, in my opinion, genuinely did want to produce a team to make the people of Shrewsbury proud of.
Currently emotions are still raw as the last few words are written on the latest chapter in our history, but a new one will start this summer, and a new one will start after that.
Let’s hope they are as memorable as the latest one.

It's more the manner of his leaving Gaz. Yes, it's been fun and all that, but all this could have been done with a bit more class. Don't forget, he's had a little go at the fans about the level of support during an expensive time to be following us. That feels a bit rich right now. Chief Exec chose to go on the radio and give one side of the story before Paul Hurst has left. The snipe around how he informed backroom staff was classless. Shrewsbury chose to try and control the messaging around this, not Paul. Re support, it wasn’t just Paul. It was the club who put those messages out. Brian Caldwell may have eventually got some lids on the s**tters so some think he’s the messiah, but it’s Paul and the side he somehow assembled that gave us a great season. Nobody is saying anyone is a messiah Gaz. Well, apart from Hurst obviously.... Yes, it will good to hear Hurst's side, but the clues about Hurst leaving have been there since January if we think back to it. I just wish he was more upfront about, but how we feel as individuals depends on our own values I suppose and we know football has no values outside a box ticking exercise. And anyway, we expect the Club to behave like houses. I must admit, the way Hurst talked, I thought he might be different. Shows what I know.

For some reason I'm reminded about the scene in Casablanca with the police captain:
Capt. Louis Renault: I am shocked- shocked- to find that gambling is going on in here! Croupier: [hands Renault money] Your winnings, sir. Renault: Oh, thank you very much. Everybody out at once!

I might be against the tide here, but managers have come to the club, and got us PROMOTED. Some people are gutted he has gone, but in context, we were in this division when he came, and still are, despite all the "big matches" and Wembley is now Twinned with Shrewsbury a "Medieval Town",
I would be great Karma if some other guy came along, maybe an underdog, or an old has been like Moyes, dragged us back up and got us there. Fred Davies did it after big names like John Bond and Asa Hartford......COYB.

What I still cannot my head round is that if Hurst was via his agent already in contact with ipswich that he didn't or may be chose not to, consider the impact of the uncertainty on the side and club at such a big and unexpected moment in the club's history and the financial windfall that was at stake.

You're right about that. Perhaps he just doesn't think that far ahead - Wembley just another game for him I guess.

Given that Ipswich interest in Paul Hurst has been known for some weeks, and that Paul Hurst talks to Brian and Roland every day, it is fair to say that they discussed the issue. The club have not revealed the content of those discussions, so how anyone can be claiming a particular view on what Paul should or shouldn’t have done is very odd. Can I just take BC’s comment re the backroom staff. Take the Physio for example. He is a non-PH club employee. Employed by the club. Now, Brian appeared to be having a go at Paul for not informing club employees about a likely move to Ipswich prior to a tweet the club themselves put out. Have I got that right?

Its quite obvious something was agreed beforehand. How long have Ipswich been without a manager? Why would they wait so long without appointing anyone if they did not already have a man in place - even if it was just a gentleman's agreement.
Happens everywhere I imagine but the agent being the first port of call is certainly a bit off.
Still, cannot blame the guy for wanting to further his career...he has some boots to fill in MM though who did wonders for them over the years with very little investment. Can see why they went for Hurst as he has proven he can provide similar.

I guess the other way at looking at it is Ipswich or the Agent could have him away in April and then left Town without a manager altogether then.
I don't think Hurst / Doig have acted particularly badly - it was no easy way out of this for anyone.

Personally I couldn't give a s**te . Hurst has been our Manager, saved us from relegation, got us to two Wembley finals and almost promotion. We lost both finals and didn't get promotion when it looked as if we would, (should ) . Yes, he did alright for us , gave us a season to remember but failed to address our main failing , we couldn't score goals . So, he's off to work for some other desparate club anxious for promotion .without a great budget . Bit like us really but perhaps Ipswich haven't noticed the similarities - yet. Can't really blame Hurst ,he's looking after his own interests like we all do . Another Manager will come in, do what he can to help us get promoted , succeed and be lauded as the greatest ever , or fail and be sacked , eventually . Can't blame Managers for trying to improve their lot when they can , or in most cases before they are found out. Doesn't bother me whether he was illegally approached or not , the outcome would have been the same whatever. I'm looking forward to the new seasons already , a new Manager , a new beginning and some new players to run the rule over .Will we survive, get promoted ? Who knows . What I do know is that me and a few thousand others will continue to support our local club as before really, come what may . Our supporters are the club , managers/ players are just transient . See you all next season - COYB .

Must admit Oriental One, had to look that up in dictionary to see if I could find you out , in other words find an excuse to stick the boot in . I couldn't , much to my annoyance so I will remain as someone who shows the weakness of old age. Dotard indeed !

Seems to me it was a poorly kept secret which got out to the extent that I heard fans talking about it after leaving home games in April.
Even if there is any grounds for annoyance on our part and i’m Not convinced there is , I will always remember PH and CD as the men who gave us a real chance of returning to the championship and that after saving us from certain relegation.
I wish them both well and say thank you for giving us fans an amazing time supporting our club since October 2016.

Quite. There is zero chance they would've given Hurst permission to speak prior to play off final. But he did it anyway.
