A few posters are missing the point.
Hurst deserves his shot at championship football.
BC has however stated that Ipswich contacted Hurst directly which is the issue. They did not contact the club as they should They have agreed a deal with Hurst when he is out manager. Which is tapping up. Just like Collins going to Swindon a few years back this stinks.

I imagine Ipswich would have contacted Hursts agent, so Hurst can keep saying there has been no direct contact. It has been pretty much a done deal sinceRoss went to Sunderland
It is the way things work now, and I can’t get too worked up about it

It so long to get him in because we approached Grimsby first to then open dialogue with Hurst- the correct way Back channeling through agents being duplicitous to club and fans - the wrong way.

Well, as BC pointed out, the Ipswich Chairman already knew that Doig was part of the package even though (allegedly) he hadn't even spoken to Hurst.

Just need to make sure we do our new deal properly and cleanly if we target another teams manager. Can hardly moan about Ipswich if we go and do the same.

For all his faults RW is 'old school' and will do things correctly. Brian is hardly likely to give interviews about the Ipswich way of doing business and then go and do exactly the same thing himself.

Yes its wrong but as he was going to go in any case, it would always be the same outcome. Controversially, as it is in all sides interests that this matter is sorted out quickly, then if this approach has speeded up the process, well it has to be to the benifit of Town. The sooner the new manager can be in post and preparing for next season, then the sooner we can begin to move forward again. Yes it could may challenged but do the club really want a long drawn out dispute which in the end is of no benefit to anyone.

They probably don't want a long drawn out dispute but if they can get more money out of a challenge, then why not?! We've all seen that money talks in the end this season - it can be no coincidence that the three clubs who came down have gone straight back up. If all this Ipswich business unsettled the players at Wembley- and who knows - then it has possibly cost us big time. If they've broken the rules, then go for it.

I agree it's best to move on quickly but there's an agreed procedure for a reason. Nothing to stop any club swooping mid-season to poach a manager otherwise. It's no use waving a contract at that club if the manager's already had a direct approach and has lost focus. What if that happens to us again part way through next season? No, if Ipswich have made a direct approach (and that includes to Hurst's friggin' agent), then the club is right to be angry and to report it.

They must have heard the rumours like us and I don't think PH was exactly vociferous in denying them either.

Hurst's departure has been inevitable since well before Christmas. As soon as it was clear we would be in the mix, most of us knew that a bigger club would come in for him at the end of the season. Obvious he'd take Doig and at least a couple of players with him and I wouldn't begrudge him stepping up.
But his conduct over the last month or so has been shady. Said it on Sunday, that there was something off about the players performance - and I wasn't the only one - the body language, work-rate and focus wasn't there. It couldn't have just been the heat as we're supposedly one of the fittest sides in the league.
The players must have been aware what was happening with Hurst and knew that both he and most of them wouldn't be here next season. It's hard to motivate yourself and play at 100% when that's the case and it gave Rotherham the edge. For that, I feel we've been mugged off a little.
The imperative thing is to ensure we don't get stitched up on transfers. Hold firm on Nolan, Toto and Beckles - I expect them to go but they're collectively worth a couple of million, that will give the next gaffer a competitive budget for a playoff challenge again next season.
Personally, I'd like Luke Garrard or Big Nigel - I hope we started tapping them up a couple of months ago...

Yes you do have a point. Question is did the players know and if so did it affect performance. I suggest that in the case of Nolan it almost certainly did. Very poor performance indeed in what was the most important game for the Club in many years. He seemed disinterested at times.

Wonder what are the odds on a League Cup draw of Shrewsbury Town will play Ipswich Town in the first few weeks of the season. Would have a bit of an edge to it wouldn’t it?

If we wanted to complain to the EFL, I think we'd have had to reject their approach and then report them for having contacted Hurst's agent.

The early departure of Mick McCarthy and our extended season has probably made matters a lot worse than they might have been. We usually get fed up with our managers before they do of us - so this is slightly new territory. Sadly with the average tenure of league 1 managers being 1.68 years arguably Paul Hurst has more than done his time. What goes around comes around, so if it’s of any comfort to the Ipswich Shrews 1.35 is the going rate in the Championship! Hurst is a talented young manager and I wouldn’t have swopped his time with us for anyone else. We’ll all move on.

I think we just have to suck it up and move on, but sadly with a diminished respect for Hurst and with a measure of ill will towards Ipswich Town.

I guess the question is did we have any contact with Hurst's agent before we spoke to Grimsby? Of course it's underhand. But not many of us would tell our boss and our team we were applying for jobs until we had one in the bag. Glad somebody is sane on here

Didn’t just about everyone on here think Hurst would be going at the end of the season?
It’s the end of the season, Hursts going. Not quite sure what all the lather is about?

It’s the way it has been done. There are apparently rules that should be followed and Ipswich haven’t. BC said in his interview that he expected to hear from Ipswich instead he heard from the agent which apparently isn’t the correct way of doing things.
The fact that our season ended late and all this could have affected one of the most important games for years just adds to the negativity.
Quite frankly I don’t give a damn any more - he’s gone and I’m ready to move on to the next chapter but I feel sad that it’s happened the way it has.
