Just hope everyone on here and at games will give him the backing he needs to succeed. Remember all the would be managers on B&A you didn't get the job this time round, so get behind the bloke who did and lets keep ourselves from going down this season.

At least he has excellent coaching qualifications, having gained his " A" licence. Reading his history, it seems he does not suffer fools gladly, and God, we have enough of them. Would not be surprised to see him ship out and bring in players when he can. The current team at seasons end will be nothing like what we have now. He will either improve or get rid of. We may, just may, have a chance of staying up. Worrying point is that he does not play wingers, and I like seeing wide men, but you can' t have everything.

This has reminded me about Grimsby fan and former regular B&A poster Indian Wells.
Will he re-appear exhorting us to "eat more fish"?

Fantastic response to this appointment from members on this site. No negative comments. Hurst cant do it on his own so its great that we are all pulling together. Should be good crowd for Barnet FA Cup game. New Manager can also have a good look at fringe players in the Telford game before the FA Cup. Good luck to him.

What a complete and utter joke this projected appointment is. From wanting an experienced manager with pedigree we opt for a former non leaguer who by the sounds of it the Grimsby fans are glad to see the back of. Some on here complained like hell when Bentley was in the frame but at least he's got more managerial experience than this clown. Sad day for our club and League 2 here we come.

Refreshing positivity.
Last season every relegated team had managers who had experience of this league before. Every promoted team was made up of managers who were league novices. (Burton aside but Hasselbiank managed them most of the season)
As for the Bentley comparison I believe Hurst has not only achieved promotion but has also completely out performed him too this season.
Welcome Paul and Chris.
Up the town.

Darren Way from Yeovil got interviewed as one of the final 3, and they turned him down! How on earth did they manage that when he is of much better calibre than Hurst!
RW has messed up here and it's time he moved on!

Ring the bells and sing hosanna.
Good shout by the member of this board who touted Hurst as an back in September.

we are in a mess, we all know that, Mellon ran after two rebuilding attempts that dug us deeper and deeper into the hole, we have all been angry, frustrated and now verge on being desperate-cannot blame Mellon he's gone so RW is getting it all, some he deserves but at the moment he could hand out tenners to the crowd and some would still blame him for not giving us £20 each.....we wanted a new manager, we have one....we wanted coaching...we now have a qualified coach...we wanted a winner...he's done ok with Grimsby...now its our turn...we want supporters behind the team we want them driven on by encouragement and support...and we want a miracle...one came out of Grimsby once before, untried, inexperienced and he forged the greatest British team in some eyes of the 60s 70s and 80s-glad Liverpool's Board took a punt on a guy from Grimsby-give Hurst the opportunity and our support.

Delighted with this appointment. A young, enthusiastic manager looking to build on a good CV. Hopefully he will provide the kick up the hole we require and get us out of our current predicament! It would be great if he was a roaring success and got pinched by a bigger club! By the way, was GT going to Villa in the 80's the last time one of our managers left for a bigger club?

Paul Hurst is gonna p**s it. And this time next year the Chairman is gonna be in the posh seats giving large with one or two renditions of "who are ya!!" and "you're not singing anymore!!" having proved to us all that their is life in the old dog yet. Guaranteed.

Let's give the new guy a chance. Everyone will ultimately be judged on results no matter who they are. To read some comments here, some fans were expecting Pep Guardiola. Get real guys, we are a small provincial club.

Really impressed to get Hurst and Doig in. Hurst seems to want to play football the right way shown when they outplayed us in the FA Cup. I hope there is a Managers meeting with the fans soon to galvanise support and give a clear indication of intent to what is a new Era . New board still required though !!

That's one hurdle overcome , at last we have a Manager which is half the battle. We need to get behind Paul Hurst from day one but don't expect miracles . He has a tough job trying to galvanise our lot into something approaching a decent League 1 side . If he manages to keep us up will have worked a miracle . Good luck Paul, without a doubt you'll need it.

Lots of talk about how fantastic the stadium is. Clearly has a sense of humour, then.
All the best to him. Seems a solid appointment and even the negative comments from some Grimsby fans (defensively minded, bit grumpy, struggling to push them on to the top of the league) which from the outside seem pretty standard lower league fans overestimating their club's reach (how is coming here a step down?!) are exactly what we need for now.
