Leutwiler Tootle Ellis Grandison NKP Brown Lawrence Weso Ogogo Collins Barnett Still a decent looking team really, don't worry. Our team got better and better last year and I expect the same this year. It solid enough and should do alright. It's a slow start but we have played some good teams. Woods will be a huge miss and it seems a shame we haven't invested any of the money we have gained this summer. Mellon is a switched on manager and he has shown he is more than willing to change things if they aren't working. A solid mid table finish this year and then invest the fees we have got in the squad next summer to push on again will be the plan. That team looks very short on creativity and pace going forward Not seen enough of Whalley to see if he fits the bill but would like to see us have a wide player with a bit of skill and pace to open sides up and help us counter attack I agree with you there but the only creative player we have lost is Grant and to an extent Woods. I am just a bit perplexed that Mellon wants to change to a 4-4-2 but we only have one natural winger, who was not wanted at Luton. You add in 2 quality wingers to this side and it would transform the team, it's a bit frustrating.

And that's a point I made earlier.
Both Brown and Whalley have plied the vast majority of their trade in League 2 and the Conference. And for some time too! Brown is 26 and Whalley 28. Whalley was even shown the door by Wrexham 6 years ago and ended up with such luminaries as Droylesden and Hyde.

Now we're much more secure financially but can't help thinking with a bit more thought; luck and judgement it could be Salop in Brentford's position now. Hopefully we'll get there one day but at the moment losing Woods and Goldson in the space of a couple of weeks feels very dispiriting Brentford - back from the depths of despair thanks to a supporters' trust with a very sensible lead following the takeover of the club by Ron Noades. Now owned by a fan who, as at June 2014, had pumped £46m in to the club (June 2013 - £30m) including amounts owed to him as a loan of £21m. Loss made in 2013/14 season - £8.7m (2012/13 season - £4.5m). Cumulative losses - £30m. No doubt it's been a period of huge success on the pitch for the Bees though and will be really interesting to see how they turn out longer-term with the new stadium on the horizon and their opening of a new academy not so long ago.

But not a Les Scadding who played with Newport County for a while and then pulled the plug on them.

So I take it we are just waiting for the confirmation of Woods undisclosed fee to Brentford then!

Be delighted if he stays.

Brentford - back from the depths of despair thanks to a supporters' trust with a very sensible lead following the takeover of the club by Ron Noades. But not a Les Scadding who played with Newport County for a while and then pulled the plug on them. Ha, you missed out the bit about the club owing him £21m and having cumulative losses of £30m! That's not the road I'd want this club to take. Most fans would turn into Les Scadding after a while and who could blame them? They'd either come to their senses (or die!) sooner or later and then all bets are off.

£1 million with a hefty sell on percentage would be great (25%?) .
The amount of money that is paid for quality championship players is pretty bizarre at the moment. We could easily cash in another £1 million in the future if he goes.
I'm still hoping it falls through and he stays though.

So..that's RW paid back for the JLAA and Grandison Contracts, the £1 million emergency fund fully topped up, so what are we going to do with the rest of the money?
The 400k it allegedly costs us to run the Youth Scheme is certainly money well invested.

Good luck Ryan Woods - By far our best footballer and someone with a big future ahead.

The money for Goldson and Woods, is evidence to me that the value of English player is filtering down (whether its justified or not)... as we all know at the top level English players are moving for silly money, think its starting to show its self lower and lower down the leagues now when you look at some of the figures for League 1 and Championship players this summer...
Which is great for us.

Which is great for us. especially when you look at how many players in the current England squad started in the lower leagues. The ones in bold all started there careers at a club outside the Premier League at the time. GK Joe Hart GK Jack Butland GK Tom Heaton DF Gary Cahill (Vice-captain) DF Phil Jagielka DF Chris Smalling DF Kieran Gibbs DF Luke Shaw DF John Stones MF James Milner MF Michael Carrick MF Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain MF Ross Barkley MF Fabian Delph MF Ryan Mason MF Jonjo Shelvey FW Wayne Rooney (Captain) FW Theo Walcott FW Raheem Sterling FW Harry Kane FW Jamie VardyAdd in Lambert,Austin, Walker,Rodriguez,Baines,Lallana,Bale,Ramsey etc, it shows there is plenty of talent that have started outside of Premier League academies who are currently worth a lot.

If it's true that Woods has gone for 1 million (rumoured on bbc link on FB) plus sell on that is a good deal!
With the Transfer window gone with the speculation and uncertainty , the return of NKP in defence, Weso in CM, Roland has is pot for a rainy day close to the 2 million mark, we are in League One albeit near the bottom after 5 games , Town can start winning again! Looking at the big picture ...... could be a lot worse!

Looking at the big picture ...... could be a lot worse! I wish I could share your optimism. Our 2 best players gone. 2 of last years successful defence also gone (Gayle paid off, MD told to clear off). None of the 7 new signings we've made have particularly stood out. So far, Ogogo seems the best, but he is being played out of position. Martin Woods has gone home. Tootle and Sadler are not wing backs so if we want to change to 3 5 2 (and I've no idea why we switched from last year's successful system in the 1st place) we have problems which resulted in the halfway house compromise on Saturday where Tootle was trying his best to be a wing back whilst Brown was played at left midfield. The defensive mistakes by Tootle and Sadler which have led to goals have already been well documented. Brown is a trier but has spent almost his entire career at Conference Level as has Whalley, who looks like he could make a difference but isn't often given the opportunity to do so..not being sent on against Burton being an example. McKnight is 'one for the future' allegedly. Our loan player, McAlinden , seems destined to be a bench warmer, a position he became well familiar with during his last loan at Fleetwood. So we are in a League higher, and with a weaker squad. Sounds familiar?

I get a bit confused about the wages v turnover rule. Presumably the income we get for Sales this season goes into the 2015/16 financial figures - which are then the basis for our spending in the next financial year?
