If it all goes wrong and we get relegated, what the point? We will have a healthy bank balance so we can be big spenders in L2 to try and win promotion back to where we have just come from!

I am not sure Woods would want to go to an unfashionable club like Brentford even if they are in the Championship.
I'll put a wager on he won't be going to Brentford and if he does he can do alot better for himself, not a good move for him!

I cant see us relying on loan players THAT extensively again, but I can see it being more than last year. Will certainly be an interesting few hours i'm sure. Mellon used more loan signings in getting promoted than Turner did achieving the same feat. Personally I've never been against loan signings but the art/luck is trying to get them here for long periods without call back

Not exactly sure what you mean by unfashionable but they got within a whisker of the play offs last season and are clearly well resourced. Maybe at a club like that Ryan has more chance of getting in the first team and proving himself at Championship level. Would be a super move for the lad IMO. You were quite critical of him on here last season but perhaps now you can see what others see?

Backed by a wealthy owner, new stadium on the way, a well run youth system and a good eye for bringing young players in.

Much as I love Brentford, I would consider this to be a poor move. Must be a lot of desperation around. Very disappointed. If we had enjoyed a good start to the season perhaps Ryan would have have rejected this move and waited for a better one. But maybe he doesn't like what's going on around him, and felt that playing in a struggling team wasn't going to increase his standing. I did notice several times in the match against Palace, when our game lost direction, he looked increasingly miffed at some of his team-mates. And after we lost against Burton, I knew in my heart that he would be away by September 1st. Hopefully for him, and for us, Brentford is a stepping stone to a more glittering career.

Even his most supportive fans would concede that the 2nd half of his season was not as good as his excellent performances during the last quarter of 2014 but IMO he was always a unique talent , by our standards anyway

Pretty forward thinking club now days, very good record of improving talented young players and selling on at a decent profit. Very good owner, new ground in the pipeline and championship football. I think it would be an excellent move all round.

Fingers crossed that Weso and NKP really can return to their best, because that would feel as though we have made two good new signings that are probably as good as any out there to replace Connor and Ryan.
Then let's give young Jordan Clark plenty of game time, starting him and not just using him in the last 7 minutes, and put Whalley out wide and changing our game plan.
Sometimes things are forced upon you; the answer is to evolve and adapt.

As another post suggested Woods going to Brentford does have echoes of Paul Evans going to Brentford in the late 90s
Back then the sale was done in a rush to balance the books, but it did feel like the start of a very long decline which eventually saw us in non league football
Now we're much more secure financially but can't help thinking with a bit more thought; luck and judgement it could be Salop in Brentford's position now. Hopefully we'll get there one day but at the moment losing Woods and Goldson in the space of a couple of weeks feels very dispiriting

But their star player was a loaned who went back to parent club, another star player sold to hull and they've changed manager with the new one having no experience of English football

To be fair to him, he's spent his career so far playing for an unfashionable league 1 / 2 club!

Many times in the past we've failed to capitalise financially on good young talent at the GM. I never doubted that both Connor and Ryan wouldn't move on over the summer. Delighted that these moves secure our financial position and they also allow all 4 lads to develop at a higher level.
To me NKP and Weso were the natural 1st team replacements and shouldn't weaken our starting 11. I'm sure this scenario has been playing out in the managers head throughout the summer months, so if reinforcements are required then MW will have been working on the list over the last few days.
Amusing that the same old drama queens have us relegated already. Ye of so little faith. Mickey and Matt deserve better than that. Get behind them.

Drama queens!!!! have u seen the pile of s**te brought in over the summer. Think its more to do with the same old bulls**t, absolutely no point gaining promotion if we fall into the same trap.
Anyway wait till 6 and see what the score is, if we do lose the above mentioned we can look forward to another cloak and mirrors speech from MW.

Leutwiler
Tootle Ellis Grandison NKP Brown
Lawrence Weso Ogogo
Collins Barnett
Still a decent looking team really, don't worry. Our team got better and better last year and I expect the same this year.
It solid enough and should do alright.
It's a slow start but we have played some good teams.
Woods will be a huge miss and it seems a shame we haven't invested any of the money we have gained this summer.
Mellon is a switched on manager and he has shown he is more than willing to change things if they aren't working.
A solid mid table finish this year and then invest the fees we have got in the squad next summer to push on again will be the plan.

And the same old trap is presumably trying to do Division 1 on the cheap? Tootle - League 1 in a poor Crewe team. Injured or ill for last 12 months. Only offered 1 year contract by Crewe. Sadler - Can't really say Championship as Evans didn't use him. 3 years in Division 1, the last 2 with a pretty mediocre team in Crawley. Brown - League 2 or Conference. Whalley - League 2 or Conference with loan period at Telford. Ogogo - mainly League 2 with D&R. McKnight - no real League experience. Woods - gone home!

That team looks very short on creativity and pace going forward Not seen enough of Whalley to see if he fits the bill but would like to see us have a wide player with a bit of skill and pace to open sides up and help us counter attack
