This debate has been going on and on and looks if it will continue to do so. Proof enough IMO that there enough STFC supporters who are not particularly pleased with the clip art Lion . As well they might be . It does not represent Shrewsbury Town , the location, or Shrewsbury Town F.C. If I remember correctly the old Shropshire County County used the Loggerheads as a heading on all their stationery . It represented the County , Shropshire , and was derived from the original heraldic badge and consequently represented Shrewsbury itself. At no point did the Lion appear until Shrewsbury Town F.C decided to use this logo as representative of the club. The heraldic badge showing the three Loggerheads is iconic and in my view is immediately recognisable as the badge of Shrewsbury. It also has historic value and should be preserved as such . The Lion could be representative of a multitude of organisations . The club didn't seem to have much difficulty in getting rid of the ridiculous Shrew badge , hopefully they will see that there is a growing groundswell of opinion and ditch the Lion in favour of the Loggerheads.

Tbh has changed his tune from the post on the first page ;-) Good spot! If you follow this thread I'd changed by 2008 when the signs went up on the new stadium. The commercial angle has diminished too. At the time I was totally convinced it was our only option to change. Hindsight, and some bloke flogging knock off merchandise at our promotion parade thus year, proves that bit was overstated or under enforced.

I remember seeing the design at a fans reps meeting ages ago. It is really difficult to decide there and then what you think. I thought it looked quite smart. However, the clipart thing had not come to light then and that is a big factor. Without that I think people would be more tolerating. But I also think as the large badges have gone up on the stadium and the logo appears on all the publicity etc I am less and less comfortable with it. It does not convey our identity - which is the very role of a logo. my journey, in a nutshell

If RW and the board of STFC are not embarrassed by having an irrelevant piece of clipart as the basis of their club's badge then there is something wrong with them. I certainly feel embarrassed by it.

Hi everyone ! Fantastic to see that this has reared it's ugly head again after so long - do keep fighting the good fight to have the loggerheads, and a bit of dignity, restored, won't you With regard to a comment a few posts ago about how things have changed in the intervening years since this started, it's good to see that Craigclowan Prep School (link) have moved onwards and upwards from having Clippy as their logo, and now boast a redisigned logotype image (very derivative in its own right, of course, but there you go) which is far more appropriate. As with most schools, there's a lesson to be learned for some people, isn't there !

I was told that Mr Brooks was asked to come up with a new logo,so he got a picture of a lion off clip-art and stuck the name around it. this was shown to the chairman who said that's what they would use. Mr Brooks pointed out that this was just a quick example that he had knocked up to give a rough idea but he could do better. on producing numerous other examples he was told that the prototype was the best and that is what we now have. How we laughed.

What I still don't understand is that after all these years if I type lion and clip art into Google the lion clip art clearly used for the badge is still listed and I presume still available for others to use? clip art lion
So what's all that about? It's just embarrassing. Why don't the club see this...

How do we know an image of the lion from the old badge hasnt been used? as it would already been a similar size and colour? And frankly, this coming from someone who has only just signed up and the first thing they post is slamming the new badge or person / people who created the badge speaks volumes. Wind up. Oh how I wish it was one big wind up.

It's always fun to have an excuse to dredge up this classic thread - it seems that everyone's favourite rightwing nutjobs now have a lion-related clippy debacle of their own on their hands. Also: Britain First/DUP logo similarities, anyone? Silly sods.

Lions aren't even indigenous to the UK.
It should be a badger or summat.
