There doesn't seem to be enough police to cope and the rioters know this and are taking full advantage. Not good at all. Rum. Bingo....Thats the problem when we police by consent, rather than have a paramilitary police force. That may well happen in the fulness of time, given the social change in the UK. If this continues for a period of time, or spreads to more cities, I can see MACA being activated. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Aid_to_the_Civil_Authorities

I haven't followed this closely but it seems more like criminality than social/political protest. And I don't buy the "hard times" argument for a second. In real hard times, food shops would be looted, not jewellers and electrical stores. Agree with the former but the latter is very naive - someone on the breadline is more likely to loot a £1000 ring and sell it for £200, which buys £200 of groceries at a later date - try carrying £200 of groceries from a looted shop! From what little I've read it seems a very tenuous reason to riot, but with how things are - unemployment, poverty, gangs, etc, it doesn't surprise me that these will spring up. Do we have any Army personnel left in Britain to help deal or have they all been deployed elsewhere or cut?

And I suspect that's their main concern.

Its all very sad but quite predictable , we've produced a group of people who have so little hope that this , short term grab is a genuine opportunity , how desolate. glad i live in shropshire!

And my thought if we are looking for a reason, is a group of people who, in the main are from the afro carrabiean community, thinkin its all about race, when actually it is but from them not the other way around, reverse racisim....... oh and soft sentancing on crime!!
toughen up on these people, and they wont take trhe p**s!! that is whatever colour people are before someone jumps on the race card!!

Try reading my post properly. I said I wasn't surprised it has happened, I certainly dont fecking believe the primarily black youths are justified! I'd have the army out there with water cannons and armoured land rovers/rubber bullets if necessary. ETA - some of the footage I've seen shows the police as impotent so I would definitely have Army out.

Livingstone has openly condoned marches and riots that have ended in many arrests and criminal prosecutions in the past. Its anglophobic, white depricating, vile human beings like that man that breed these over-egged theories of 'racial tension' and listening to him on the news before he couldnt wait to have a pop at the government and score brownie points. Nothing like peoples livelihoods going up in smoke as you try and make a shameless self plug to win votes for another inevitable failed attempt for mayor of London.
And speaking of fire, the proverb 'I wouldnt p.iss on someone to put out a fire' springs to mind. Vile vile person.

I ask myself the question, what would my life have too be like to act like the rioters.

Action by the Police did not warrant the response we are witnessing in our cities over the last two days. And please do not put it down to a lack of social/employment opportunities for the youth of our country. Maybe the Government will re think their plans to reduce the numbers of our Police and Fire Service in light of the current problems. I just hope that we can find a way to deal with problems without MACA being implemented, that really would inflame the situation.

Norway reacted to seeing young people gunned down and their cities bombed with community rallies and reinforcing their liberal policies...I'm sensing the last few days may see the UK head in a slightly different direction
