It is with regret that I have to announce that Ed Mainwaring, who posted on here as SalopianEd, has passed away at the age of just 21. Ed was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma last September, and after completing chemotherapy, appeared to be well on the way to recovery. Unfortunately at the beginning of April he was told that the cancer had returned, and he passed away peacefully on Sunday. I know Ed had a few friends on here from Sheffield and Shrewsbury, and I wasn’t sure if they’d be aware of the severity of his illness, due to both the speed of his deterioration, and determination to not make a big deal out of it. On Sunday his sister Hannah completed the Sheffield half marathon in aid of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, and I’m sure any donations will be gratefully accepted at original.justgiving.com/hannahmainwaring/RIP Ed, you’ll be missed by many.

Terrible news. From the couple of times i met him he seemed like a great lad. I last saw Ed when the 'Sheffield Shrews' met up to watch town on TV playing Bury earlier in the year, and he seemed upbeat and on the way to recovery. Extremly shocked. R.I.P Ed

Shocked by this news. He was in the majority of posters on here, in that he seemed a decent young person. RIP Ed.

I think it would be fitting if Town could have a minute's silence at one of the Torquay games. Or, the crowd give a minute's applause in the 21st minute.

This is such sad sad news.
Ive known Ed through following the Town for a few years and had been drinking with him at a number of away games. He was a genuine and down to earth fella and what has happened to him is terrible.
I hadnt seen him this year but read about his illness in the Chronicle last month when things seemed to be looking up. As a result I Pm'd him about 3 weeks ago only for him to mention the cancer had come back and the success rate for the treatment was not great. I didnt realise that it would get him this quick.
Things like this does make you realise how short life can be and puts other things into perspective.
Condolences to his family and close friends who must be really suffering right now.
R.I.P Ed Mon
