After todays draw, I cant help feeling that his momentus error in flagging to give Wycombe their non goal will be what costs us promotion.
I find it annoying that the official did not even apologise for such a mistake, and it is blown over silently by the league / FA as one of those things.
I know it wont get our points back, but the least they could have done is apologise for an unacceptable error.
Does anyone know if the have they officiated any games since ?

Funnily enough We were talking after the game about the cloak of silence from the refs union and the FA.
No sign of any sanctions/punishment/assessor report

It wouldn't have been so bad if it happened against any side other than Wycombe!!! Will probably cost us, a monumental error, but we've had other games we should have got points and only had ourselves to blame

Let's not start making our excuses before the season's over. If we win these two games, we'll probably go up. There's a good chance we'll do it with just the 4 points. If we don't, we're the best team of the 4 in the play-offs. If we then lose in those, then we can point to this decision, but really, we'll have had enough chances to make sure it didn't matter.
I'm confident we'll go up. And i'm confident it'll be automatic. They've got to go to Bury and WIN. How confident would we be of doing that if it was the other way round? Whether we were a point ahead or not.

oh come off it chaps, todays misses by ainsworth and collins cost us just as much.
whilst i understand and share the frustration, if our season hangs by one s**t decision by an official then frankly we have only ourselves to blame.

All this talk of the Wycombe Bury game, let's not discount Southend, Cheltenham and Oxford. Sure they're all mid table with the season all but over, but let's not presume ourselves and Wycombe will automatically take maximum points from these games.

Not really looking for excuses, I just find the silence by the refs union and FA unacceptable.
However for all our missed chances this season if we do miss out by 1 or 2 points, that decision has to be the reason because Wycombe will have been promoted courtesy of goal they did not score.

Does anyone know if the have they officiated any games since ? Mr Linington took charge of: 2 April Cardiff v Derby 9 April Northampton v Bury 16 April Swindon v MK Dons 25 April Swansea City v Ipswich Town He previously took charge of a League Cup match in August - Swansea v Sc***hrope and sent three Swansea players off "with Swansea down to six men, Isle of Wight official Linington was considering abandoning this footballing farce with two minutes remaining. The farce descended to new depths when Swans boss Paulo Sousa had to send the injured Idrizaj back on to the pitch despite his inability to take part just so this crazy cup tie could have a conclusion". rateyourref.co.uk/referee/James-Liningtonnews.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/league_cup/8205360.stm

A game in Germany was replayed as in the original fixture a goal was given that wasn't over the line. I echo FredInHisSheds sentiments the FA don't seem to be giving us any sympathy and don't give a flying s**t that this could well cost us promotion. The very very small chance of a replay like said game in Germany is out of the window as this would affect the play offs and they'd probably have to be put back a week. All we can do is just hope justice prevails and we can forget about all the s**tty decisions that have gone against us and we can look forward to league one football

Would you also NOT blame the Ref today for his monumental blunder by giving us a free kick instead of a penalty when Taylor was clearly tripped 1 metre into the area . The referees this season have been on the whole useless to ' why bother being there ' ! They cost at least without interpretation or bias at least 12 points this season . What standard are the FA trying to achieve ? If we get promotion it will be at the asking of beating the teams and the officials together . This season is the worst I have ever known for Officials . They should hang their heads in shame and go back to the Sunday Leagues .

The two games against Wycombe are real sickeners this season. 4 massive points dropped which could have seen us promoted by now! Neal's howler combined with the phantom goal, unfortunately could cost us 3rd place.

I'm sat in block 14 and could see from there that the initial contact was outside the box, Taylor may have landed in the penalty area after being sent into orbit by the tackle but no way was it a penalty. My only surprise was that the ref did not even speak to the Accy player about the foul as it had to be worth a booking...............

Wigglesworth's first game since the infamous Wycombe decision was on Friday-Leeds v Reading.

Can only echo the thoughts on here. Anyone but Wycombe. I’ve taken a look at the ‘goal’ again this morning after reading this thread in the hope of seeing some suggestion that the ball had crossed the line. Would make me feel a tad better that but not a chance, it weren’t even close. I’d like to know if the club actually did anything here? Whether they looked to inform whoever concerned about the massive blunder. As mentioned above, at the very least you would expect an apology from the referee and his team. Can’t go with that though Matron. If indeed our season is to hang on a goal scored that never was then I don’t think we can look to ourselves at all. They have done there bit, they have played their football, performed as they can. Such a crucial decision like that made by the officials is completely out of their hands. And it is coming back to hurt us. Just one of those things of course but if we do happen to fall short of Wycombe then there is only one reason for that and that is because of that ‘goal’ given for them against us. It wasn't even close to being a goal...

While I take the point people make about us missing chances/making mistakes etc, an official giving a goal on the basis of a guess is of a different order of magnitude.
If we are going to count our own misses then we have to look a chances missed against us and admit that teams should have taken points from us - but we don't because players missing chances and making mistakes is an accepted part of the game.
An unsighted linesman guessing that the whole of the ball is across the line is not.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with everything on here. It is the dreadful decision at Wycombe that will gall me. Not because it was a wrong decision in our opinion BUT because there was no way he could have seen what happened.
Yes mistakes (particularly against Wycombe and Barnet away) have cost us this season but something so blatently wrong from a so called professional who apparently I am supposed to respect (fat chance!) are what we will remember even if we do go up.
Also agree that there has been no apology no recognition of the mistake or anything to us the paying fans who could have done a better job on that occasion! I don't know if the club has heard anything or not.
If it had been any other club than Wycome it wouldn't have had any of the impact it has.
It's about time the refs were held more accountable for such decisions just as other people are in their places of work.

What I find really unacceptable about this - apart from the original blunder - is the way that it all seems to have blown over. We have no idea whether any punishment was imposed on the ref or his assistant. This, to me, is just treating supporters with contempt.
Can you imagine this happening if the mistake had been made against Manchester United or Chelsea? The ref would probably have been suspended for several games or busted down to Championship level with the FA shouting about the punishment from the roof tops. One law for the rich and another for the poor, I suppose....

Can we sue the linesman for committing perjury? Surely there must be something in the referees charter whereby they have to swear to uphold the spirit and laws of the game because quite palbably this linesman is a liar.

for me the lino is the biggest villian, he gave the decision
i suppose the ref has to take a fair bit of the blame too, he did have eyes after all

Perhaps we could sue for loss of earnings if we are pipped by one or two points by Wycombe!!!

Guys, as galling as this is, lets just move on, we cant do anything about it. This sort of thing happens everywhere, week in ,week out. We are not the first nor will be the last team to suffer from poor officials but I doubt the FA are losing much sleep over it, which is a shame as the respect campaign for officials would be much more effective if Refs/lino's wern't so bulletproof.
As for Wycombe, what goes around comes around and they will come a cropper one day, hopefully soon.

The club could request to the League now that should Wycombe finish above Shrewsbury by less than 2 points, the match is replayed before the start of the play-offs.
It may come to nothing but I see no harm in stirring the hornets nest

But who knows what would have happened if the phantom goal was not given, and the game carried on with Smith picking the ball up and throwing / kicking it down field???
The "goal" was given on 50 minutes, but if not given we would have had 40 minutes at 1-0 up to play
The change in the game may have resulted in Wycombe winning 2-1 or 3-1 whatever, we will never know!!
As it happened the diabolical decision resulted in the game being a draw, but things may have been much worse in that we got no points

fair play could have come into this too
the wycombe team must have known it should not have counted
they could have made ammends there and then
its been done before

Can't see a replay happening, sadly. Wycombe would not have been so accommodating, has anybody seen their penalty against Crewe, a definite dive for me. Link------> Wycombe Penalty? 1m 15 in They seem to get the decisions

The point of the original thread was questioning whether something had been done about the incompetent official that was running the line that day. It appears the people who are tasked do something about have lived up to their name and done sweet f.a. about it which is a disgrace. As someone said Wycombe could have done something about it but decided not to leaving them the beneficiaries of a diabolical decision which could see them promoted unfairly over us. Can't help but feel that if we do miss out because of that decision then we have been cheated out of promotion. If their is any justice in the footballing world then it will be us that will go up and hopefully Wigglesworth Wanderers that will be dumped down into the play off's.

Quite agree - I can live with the fact that we do not go up because of our own play over the season but if we lose out because a so called professional cannot do his job it will be hard to accept.
