Can someone tell me what he said into the camera? Obviously the papers aren't reporting the exact words...

Was it was only the other day that we saw the powers that be come out and talk about players behaviour, that they would look to try and curb their language, look to punish them. Long overdue for me that but even so, for Rooney to come out with that a day or two later... He's just not the sharpest tool in the box is he. Great footballer but you wonder whether there is owt else up top...

That link I just posted, had that been rooney, it would be all over the papers, yet it wasn't even a highlight on MOTD because it was Essien.

You've got to blame the manager.
The legend Brian Clough had a rule that no one in his team argued with the referee, not even the captain. If anyone did he was substituted immediately. Roy Keane was a gentleman at Forest, within 6 months at Old trafford he turned into a gobby thug.
THAT is RESPECT in a nutshell.

Yeah but I would hope that any two footed tackle would be suitably punished. But I don't want to see that, I think that's just over stepping the mark, that for me is unacceptable of any player. There is just no need for it at all. You want your kids to hear that? I don't want players shouting that out live on the box. We see enough during the game without it being up close... Because it's Rooney? What can you do? I don't recall any other player shouting foul and abusive language like that into the camera? It's Rooney cos he is the one daft enough to do such a thing. So what can you do... The West Ham lad gave the camera a kiss didn't he? And Rooney? Only brought it on himself...

Yeah I agree only Rooney would be stupid enough to do it to be honest!
I just think a two match ban is a bit steep. How many times have players scored and you can hear them and see them shout 'F**uckin come on!'?! Or over the tele you can hear the fans singing with swear words in. Swearing is a regular occurance in life and football. I suppose I can't agree with your opinions about your kids though (yet!) Only time will tell!
A suspended sentance incase he does it again or warning or 1 match ban.
Agree about the two footed tackles too, I was just bringing it up that rules are always broken, that's all.

I'm not sure about a ban either to be honest. Judging by the speed of the apology offered by Manchester you do get the feeling folk know that he went to far, that he over stepped the mark. You do get the impression that it would be a one off and he wouldn't be doing that again. You'd hope so anyhow...

More proof that Rooney is thick as two short planks. If he'd being saying it straight after he scored and maybe to the crowd then it's more understandable, but the knuckledragger actually looks directly down the camera for several seconds and uses the f-word twice. He's a disgrace for a multitude of reasons and it's really sad that one of the biggest icons for kids is a foul-mouthed dimwit who sleeps with prostitutes while leaving his wife and young child at home. A fine wouldn't have had any effect (unless it was a huge sum, £1m+) so perhaps a ban may make him think next time (although I doubt it).

From a man who doesn't even know what the word sport means,,,what fairplay means....from a man who held his Club to ransom. From a man who cheated on his wife with Whores... from a man who elbowed a fellow proffesional in the face.
From such a man we should expect nothing less.
Only the deluded would show such a man support...

i forget which games now at the weekend but i saw 2 red cards for tackles when a player jumped in without even going anywhere near the other player some refs are too scared to issue a red, others are seemingly too scared not to its about time we used the footage after the game to put things the ref got right or wrong or missed going back to rooney we see and laugh at players swearing every week its quite often you hear somelike like lineker, shearer and co say, hmm no guessing what he said there and also often that you hear a commentator apologise for an outburst originating from a dug out if you are going to stick a camera in the face of anyone at a football match their is a good chance you are going to a bit of strong language now and then is it ok to swear as long as the mic doesnt pick you up ? its a bit hypocrital when you hear people say young kids will hear that and start copying it maybe they should wear head muffs at a match in future

Just had it on Four News and one chap was saying if you have cameras about you are bound to pick sommat up. The only thing wrong with that is that Rooney saw the camera and swore straight into it knowing full well it was there. Totally different to picking something up...

This is B & A where in the past posters have said that if they want to swear at football matches they will do so regardless of who is stood close to them so have to presume they are just as thick as they claim Rooney is. This is B & A where some posters use the swear filter on a regular basis, a facility that doesn't really hide anything, could not the same people who have been upset this time be reading the board. I remember Alan Shearer saying whils't he was still playing that footballs used a great deal of "industrial language" so what has changed. You will see ( and often hear) players using the same word on the pitch almost every match you watch and not a murmur is heard, you will hear the same word on TV and the audience roaring with laughter, thousands buy DVDs using this word and other ripe language but this is different, and what has the way a person looks got to do with this particular case. I in no way condone the stupid action in this case but fully expect that if all are to be treated equal many clubs will be unable to raise a team when all their suspensions for swearing kick in, and before anyone says what about the kids watching are these not the same kids that hear this type of language both from players and spectators (and many other situations) every time they attend a match. Before getting too hypocritical ask yourself how many times a day/week do I use that same word.

Completely lost on me that. had a feeling that would fly over your head i'll put it in laymans again just for you rooney had just scored his hat-trick after his side had been 2-0 down i can't even imagine how that must feel next thing there is a camera shoved in his face and you expect the player to halt his emotions and suddenly change character as i said, it was hardly a planned interview it was heat of the moment in mid emotion thats the character of the game, the character of rooney players swear every week its only different when its rooney
