In my opinion there is a bigger difference in quality this year in League 1 between the top and bottom sides and that accounts for our marked lack of points against teams in the top half. This may be the continuation of a general trend as I remember a few years ago 50 points being a decent benchmark for staying up with some teams well into the high 40s going down but it now looks like 45 or 46 points may be enough. I confidently expect us to win on Saturday and that should definitely be enough. Of the teams below us it seems Port Vale are in the best recent form so I expect Fleetwood, Burton and Cheltenham to accompany Carlisle into League 2. I am sure most of us will be glad to see the back of this season but Hurst will have to pull a fair few rabbits out of the hat (like he did in his first spell) with some inspired signings this summer to make us even into a midtable side next season given the budget difficulties.

Was just the same last season in League 1. Cambridge survived on 46 points and towards the end of the season none of the bottom teams could hardly buy a win from Christmas onwards. MK Don's went down in 21st place on 45.

Stockport and Wrexham surely won't have much difficulty surviving in this Division next year.
But maybe Mansfield and whoever comes up via the playoffs might.
I'm already looking for bottom 4 material for next season, and whoever survives between Cheltenham, Port Vale, Burton, and Cambridge might fit the bill.

Port vale haven't put a very strong side out today. They have left a few players that are regulars in the team out like tom sang, James Wilson, Mitch Clarke and Dan Jones. They have also left there second top scorer in chislett on the bench and put in 2 youth team players in Walters and plant. So there by the looks of it taking this loss as it comes and focusing on a more winnable game at home to Exeter on Saturday and then at home to Wycombe next Tuesday.

Dipped in and out. Posh could have been three up in the first 15 but for some poor finishing and that's been the case throughout the first 45 until they finally made the breakthrough just before the half time break. The home side have dominated. If the game continues as it is and Posh can find their scoring boots then it should be a comfortable win for the home side.

Wycombe are holding Derby to 0 0. Let's hope they tire themselves out!

Very much a helping hand from Vale. Their lad just grabbed the arm of a Posh player looking to get on the end of a cross and pulled him down. Could be 3 or 4 by the end this. Pretty much all Posh.

Posh can put a dent in Vale's goal difference too.

Vokes and Leahy are both on the bench for Wycombe. Saving them for Saturday perhaps?

Vale got 3 youth team players on now in plant, Walters and shorrock. They have dipepa on now another young lad who played for England under 17s the other week. Think they have just used this game to rest there best players and save them for more important games. It's a dangerous thing to do though as they might not beat Exeter or Wycombe like they think they might do. They haven't even tried attack in this game basically sat back all game and let Peterborough have the ball and loads of shots all game.

Yes, but 3 of Vale's last 4 games are at home.

In other news, Stoke and Brum both losing. Swansea making themselves safe for another season, Cardiff defeating Brum.

If it wasn't for the vale keeper it would have been 6 or 7 nil. Peterborough have Clarke Harris as an unused sub and vale have several 16 and 17 year olds playing total miss match of teams. Ones going be in league 2 and the other could well be in the championship.

Wycombe denying Derby a win is very bad news for us, as Bolton can now overtake Derby and go into the automatic promotion places if they win their game in hand - which is against us!

So when all is said and done, the earliest we can be mathematically safe remains after the Bolton game.
Fingers crossed for the next seven days!

Vokes and Leahy are both on the bench for Wycombe. Saving them for Saturday perhaps? I imagine Leahy will be back in on Saturday, probably at left back. Vokes has been on the bench a lot lately, He was at Wembley.

There’s so much absolute s**te in the league thank God. That has been our only saving grace this season. We are poor undoubtedly but I've not been overly concerned about us going down over the weeks and get more and more confident as I see the opposition get worse with every game they play. The last 2 years have been shockingly poor at tge lower end of the table.

They would not be that generous if they thought there was even a whiff of a chance of us dropping.

There’s so much absolute s**te in the league thank God. I didn't think there was an awful lot between us and Vale when we played them at their gaff not that long ago but their performance last night compared to ours at Pompey was poor. Granted we lost but we got the goal and showed a bit of attacking intent, we gave Pompey a game. Yet it was pretty much Posh from start to finish last night, they could and should have had more than the three goals.
