... and I will add, that I have attended many Anti tRump, Anti tRump policy demonstrations. I am not a tRump voter by any stretch of the imagination. Suggest you find some hobbies or do something more worthwhile, and less utterly pointless and sad Good to have Donald Trump here Thanks for your concern, much appreciated.

Serious question - I have made it pretty clear that I am no supporter of Trump, but a question to those who have posted positively about him - Why? What is it about Trump that encourages you to support him?

Well angelic is certainly not the term I would use, never in a million years. But what do your links tell us? There there are some truly evil, abhorrent, dangerous and deluded people involved in far right movements within the US and elsewhere? We know that. That doesn't mean this women and others like her get a free pass now does it. It doesn't mean that we pass on this type of behavior just because there is far worse happening elsewhere in the world. It doesn't mean we're not going to point it out and comment on such behavior (more so because this is happening in the UK)...đź‘Ť It just means that many of us wouldn't touch either side with a barge pole...

What is it about Trump that encourages you to support him? He really does try to look after his own people which i like. He had more American nationals released who were captive abroad in his first year than Obama did in eight. Manufacturing is flying again in America, enconimic growth, tough stance with Russia. There's plenty more!
From an outside perspective he seems to be doing the majority of what he said he'd do.

I dunno JT; you, I mean your friend, maybe disappointed. Can only guess of course but I suspect she might be an absolutely pleasure to be around when you've a leader from some left-wing totalitarian/one state party/human rights abusing/murdering/dictatorship paying us a visit. I mean if she can be arsed to turn up in the first place of course. Only guessing, mind... Joking aside; I do hope that those who are looking to protest about Trump now take a step back. I'm sure they will. And I do hope that the orange one doesn't look to try and make it all about him. I'm not so sure about that. Let's hope those veterans in attendance get the respect they deserve, today is very much about them (and of course all those who part but who are no longer with us)...đź‘Ť

One thing which I don't get about the Brexit/Trump nexus and nobody has been able to explain is this;
- Brexit wins by a simple majority; "respect the vote, all dissent is anti democratic".
- Trump loses the popular vote by 4 million votes and is instead elected by the electoral college who, in a record number of cases, defied their voters and sided with Trump over Clinton; "respect the vote all dissent is anti democratic".
So which is it, brexiters? Why is a simple majority enough to cause fundamental changes to the UK which will last generations but not enough to elect a President?

I'm not going to pretend Trump is my favourite. But if he wants to swan around Buck House, (Did I ever tell you about the time I got a credit for alertness when on guard there?....true, oh, and an udder Juan at Windsor Castle?.....also true), and the time....I'll leave it at that , I'm not that bovvered about him to be honest. But there is a serious side to the visit. It is to honour the brave British, Commonwealth and American men and women who lost their lives fighting the fascists, which would have meant that you wouldn't even have existed if it wasn't for them sacrificing their lives for you and your families.
The President, whether you like him or not, represents the millions of Americans who paid that sacrifice, and along with my own relatives who died, and those of my wife, Chris, I respect them for it.
I can't say the same for Corbyn, Bercow and the Mayor of London. Pathetic, childish behaviour from the three of them. When Trump was in college from 1964 to 1968, he obtained four student draft deferments. In 1966, he was deemed fit for military service based upon a medical examination and in July 1968, a local draft board briefly classified him as eligible to serve. In October 1968, he was given a medical deferment that he later attributed to spurs in the heels of both feet, which resulted in a 1-Y classification: "Unqualified for duty except in the case of a national emergency." In the December 1969 draft lottery, Trump's birthday, June 14, received a high number that would have given him a low probability to be called to military service even without the 1-Y.In 1972, he was reclassified as 4-F, which permanently disqualified him from service.
Enough said.

whatever you may think of him and i am not a fan, if brexit does come off and we are looking for trade deals, does it help for poloticians to not be diplomatic? Is trump diplomatic? No, but you keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Whatever you think of him, you give him the full welcome, then do your best to influence him.

Then I look forward to kim jung un and vlad putins state visits soon then. By the by, has anyone seen the photo of trump shaking hands and greeting Gerry Adams in the 70s at a fund raiser of some sorts I think. Can’t share pics on here but it’s a lovely photo!

The rise of racist far right groups in the US and the increase in hate crimes over the last two years has been linked the rhetoric used by Trump/Bannon etc. While it may be a stretch to say that the UK is sponsoring the rise of the far right, I think it is undeniable that the far right in the US, UK and a number of other European countries is on the rise. Do you have similar concerns about the "far left", or is it just the fact that you're left of centre and have a differing opinion that anyone right of centre must be "far right", racist, facist etc www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/sep/19/fastest-growing-uk-terrorist-threat-is-from-far-right-say-police

i am not a fan of President Trump but i dont recall the same level of hostility aimed at President Xi Jinping who has been in power since 2013 bearing in mind this was from Amnesty international 2017/18 report
"The government continued to draft and enact new laws under the guise of “national security” that presented serious threats to human rights. Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo died in custody. Activists and human rights defenders were detained, prosecuted and sentenced on the basis of vague and overbroad charges such as “subverting state power” and “picking quarrels and provoking trouble”. Police detained human rights defenders outside formal detention facilities, sometimes incommunicado, for long periods, which posed additional risk of torture and other ill-treatment to the detainees. Controls on the internet were strengthened. Repression of religious activities outside state-sanctioned churches increased. Repression conducted under “anti-separatism” or “counter-terrorism” campaigns remained particularly severe in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region and Tibetan-populated areas. Freedom of expression in Hong Kong came under attack as the government used vague and overbroad charges to prosecute pro-democracy activists."

People just love to protest for the sake of it now.

Plus I'm not sure pointing out the ongoing issues in the US provides us with an insight as to why there were huge protests against one (USA) and not the other (China). Which is what I think you were getting at...đź‘Ť I think the line one or two try and push is that you tend to hold your friends to a higher standard. That's why there is more attention paid to what is happening in the US rather than say China. I guess you have to make up your own mind whether that carries any weight (more so when you do look to the stuff that is currently ongoing in China).

That's why there is more attention paid to what is happening in the US rather than say China. I guess you have to make up your own mind whether that carries any weight (more so when you do look to the stuff that is currently ongoing in China). Yes i was trying to make that point with Xi Jinping the Chinese goverment has persecuted religions at levels not since since chairman mao. www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jan/13/china-christians-religious-persecution-translation-biblewww.newstatesman.com/blogs/the-faith-column/2008/08/falun-gong-party-chineseIn the 80s, Chinese parks brimmed at dawn with some 200 million people performing slow-movement exercises known as qigong. In 1992 Master Li Hongzhi introduced Falun Gong, outwardly a qigong practise like any other. But Master Li uniquely placed emphasis not on healing or supernormal abilities, but on self-cultivation towards spiritual perfection. This fear of Falun Gong’s popularity explains why its main text, Zhuan Falun, was banned from publication weeks after becoming a bestseller in 1996. And why, when a government report estimated there were more Falun Gong practitioners (70 million plus) than Party members, security agents began interrupting exercise sessions. anything no matter how peacfull that is seen by the current leadership as a threat is crushed.
