On leaving the ground I over heard one guy saying loudly to his mates - "I still want Turner sacked. He's clueless. We've got the worst pair of centre backs in the division and that Morgan is waste of space"
Presumably, he probably called Radio Shropshire later to give them the benefit of opinions.

Hmmm, Turner sacked? Why, because we haven't won every game? Are we not 2 points of the top? Yeah, that's a reason to sack him Sharps didn't look confident at the back today and it showed. Perhaps because they were first pick last season and the start of this they are complacent and have nothing to prove, but with Reeeeuuuubbbbbeeeennn and Connor Goldson they have to show why they are good enough for the team and that might reflect on all their individual performances, I don't know. But Sharps does look a yard of the pace and granted that he has just come back from injury, but everyone will have to pick their game up next week because guarenteed, Crawley will be a tougher game

Richards was getting slated by some near to where I sit before the whistle had blown at 3pm - he had a good game and will get better with more pitch time under his belt, does the simple things well without being noticed and picked out some great passes too, the only player on throw ins and such like who makes runs taking defenders with him and creating space for others who are static, an under rated player with a decent footballing brain.

Even the contingent from the blind school.

Agree with your assessment of Richards, Hoover, Spot on as usual.

Wright was getting slated near me, when he missed that shot at far post by missing the ball totally, however maybe a case of pitch too watered?

Leon, that was a shocking miss - can only imagine he his eyes off the ball because that was a sitter. Wright had a very poor game for me today and should have been replaced by Taylor with Ainsworth switching to the left.

Big Marv missed an even greater sitter, getting it over the bar from about a yard out.

Someone behind me was slating Wright at any given opportunity. Not once did I hear them criticise another player.
At one point I remember them shouting at Wright when the ball was with Ainsworth and we had just won a corner.

Thing about Wright is he plays poor but always has a goal in him all of a sudden. One thing I do think Wright needs to do is get stronger. Not strong enough on the ball and gets pushed of it easy. Lionel gets away with being small with pace and skill, Wright is not that quick for a winger.

Hmm. Richards did a lot of things well today - some good running, eager for the ball, his goal well - but this whole " does the simple things well" bit.. where does that come from? Numerous times in the first half, he tried long expansive forward passes to Lionel, with a very low success rate, when there were simple passes to other midfielders available. And i dunno how you're judging his footballing brain this early - he's hardly played. Your description sounds more Sean Mac. Richards has more in common with Wroe, for me. And that, again IMO, is why we got a bit over run in that area today - some would be down to unfamiliarity, but they're too similar. One of them with SM is the way to go, so that he can sit, break up play, and the other can spread the play and push on. I didn't personally see a reason for that area to be changed, but that's not to criticise Richards, he did alright, the partnership was just working pretty well in the main.

Sack turner lol. Were 2 points off the top and I hink we got best squad for years.
Of course were going to have off days once and a while.
You look at games we dropped points
Plymouth - We played them at the wrong time a new season they were up for it etc
Burton- A good side at home
Oxford-A side who hardly lose at home but yes we were poor that night.
Brizzle Rovers- We lose I think we were unlucky
Southend- Poor perfomance but they are on a roll at mo.
Theres plenty of pluses this season a good cup run beating Derby and Swanse and giving Arsenal a mighty scare beating Torquay and Vale our bogey sides

Yesteday wasnt pretty and yes we were lucky to get 3 points but some of the things I heard in the ground and afterwards walking back were laughable
Whats more frustrating for me is the amount of people in the ground who are more than happy to make a noise to show their disapproval like on a few occasions yesterday, but wont make a noise to try and get behind the team

Not in the same league as the O/P, but someone in 16 shouted 'are you related to Rooney' every time the linesman put his flag up.
I yearn for some witty banter.

It just goes to show that some fans even though they attend most games that they just have not got a clue just what a great manager Town have in Turner.

Agree with that. He is the best manager we have ever had or ever likely to have Undoubtedly a good manager but to suggest that Turner is the best manager ever and never likely to be surpassed seems to be a little over the top. I must remember that Rowley, Durban, Bates and Peters were not good managers.

I think if you list the significant achievements of this club ie semi finals of the League Cup, quarter finals of the FA Cup twice, top ten in the 2nd tier twice, 4th tier champions and 3rd tier champions, the fact that Turner has been involved in more than one of those suggests he certainly should be a candidate as our best ever manager. His case would be enhanced if he achieves any promotions in his 2nd spell with us.

Paul you are right these are important criteria in evaluating a manager, I would also add the state of the club when a manager over and most importantly for smaller clubs the profit from transfers.

No one will ever agree when it comes to managers will they, apologies if this turns the thread into another GP thread but Il use him as a prime example as Ed has listed him alongside Rowley, Bates etc
If you look at it in very black and white terms, he over when we were struggling in L2 and left us when we were still in L2. We had very few cup runs, however he did make the club a decent profit, mainly from Hart & Edwards (although you could argue that they were already here).
So if we are talking football, we won no promotions under him, didnt win any cups, didnt have any cup runs, any cup upsets and left us in the same league. So on the face of it, you'd struggle to list him as a great manager because he achieved very little.
Of course the other aggument is he turned the club around, gave us self respect, worked hard, developed players but the bottom line is on the field we were still the same in L2.
And of course it comes to Turner. Certain fans have said that he's no better than Simpson because he has failed to win promotion and should be seen in the same light, whether we failed by 1 point or 30 points, we failed and thats what we heard in the summer. Whilst other people (myself included) will say that he inherited a poor squad but has improved it a hell of a lot with a fraction of the budget of his predecessor
All about opinions as they say

I must admit to being surprised that Ed has included Bates in his list of successful managers, but after saying that, many of Ed's views baffle me. Chic was an exceptional player for us, and I am led to believe, a good coach. As a manager, he struggled. Yes, he had one very good season - with someone else's team, but once he had to rebuild, we fell away dramatically, and McNeil was hired to rescue us. Most of Chic's success after hanging up his boots, came as a No 2, most notably to Lou Macari. Who built the team was it that Chic had his best season with? Oh yes, Graham Turner.

As the manager who achieved the highest ever position in the league, I know Turner's team also finished 8th but Bates' team won more points, Chic deserves to be included in the best 5 Town managers especially as this was achieved with a reduced budget. Maybe ex-keeper you would like to suggest another manager who should be included in the top 5.
