Unbelievable, the events of yesterday were disgusting - as are some of the comments on this thread from people who are either on wind up or clearly are rather disturbed.
The fighting before half time was embarrassing - what was the actual cause?
The goading of away fans and running on the pitch was also embarrassing. The chap in the red needs to be banned.
There is plenty of video evidence from the incidents and a naming and shaming to get these people banned is a very sensible suggestion.
I've enjoyed following Salop all over the country over recent years but if any of my family members or friends had been caught up in that on their first experience i could see that no matter what i said to defend our fans it wouldnt make them come back.
Lessons need to be learnt for this, Torquay at home may see a similar scenario unfold. If we get into league 1 we are likely to see a rise in attendances for the bigger games - this needs to not happen again.
I'm guessing if we beat Torquay with a last minute winner people will be on the pitch - is this acceptable?
Had we bettered Wycombe yesterday would a mass invasion be acceptable? There is a line somewhere which needs to be drawn - it's almost as if enough people do it then it's allowed to happen with no actions to follow.

Anyone old enough to remember when Middlesbrough came to the GM in the 1985/86 season, got relegated and their fans gave us a right kicking. Women and Children being pelted with stones from the Station End and loads of their thugs getting arrested outside the ground. Although yesterdays scenes were undesirable things have improved a lot since those days.

I remember that game,i seen kids about 6 years old or younger getting dragged over the English bridge to get away from the thugs. They trashed the buffet in the station end. That day made yesterday look like a family picnic.

I recall the Luton thugs kicking off in 2002 in the Wakeman End, sad t**ts even bought Shrews badges etc to hide the fact they were away fans.

Must of been tempting for the stewards to have given the guy in the red top a little "helping" hand over the barriers into the Oxford fans and then let them get on with it. What an absolute t*sser.
Middlesborough 85 was like the wild west - didn't Darren Hughes score late on to win the game for us.

Im not surprised that many people wont go back again. Im not saying any more on this topic as im not wasting my time talking about toss pots.

So 7 pages in and I still don't know what caused the fight between our own fans just before half time. What was the actual cause?

I was sat right infront of the fighting before half time. It started before the game kicked off, when to guys had an argument about someone sitting in the wrong seat, both had had to much to drink, then just before half time the two guys met on the steps and it kicked off.
What really got me was how slow our stewards were to respond. It took them a good 2 minutes to do anything. Very annoyed about the whole episode and the way these idiots were allowed back in or just went back to their seats.... At a higher level we just wouldn't cope!! About time we invest in proper stewards and securit, imagine the carnage if we played a Leeds or millwall!! Joke!!

I was sat in block 1 and god knows what was going on in block 19.
something seemed to happen in the stairs between 18 and 19 which caused loads of stewards to peg it over there - at first i thought someone had fallen down the stairs.
later on i saw that you could hardly see the steps in those areas with all the people sitting / standing on them - i thought they were supposed to be kept clear yet nothing happened.
after our 2nd goal i then saw two idiots from block 19 jump the barriers and run over to the oxford fans. one went in purposely to start swinging punches at them. i then saw the guy in the pink shirt leave his seat, get on the pitch - despite behind massive - and then run over to one of the original two and punch the guy in the red. so a massively large bloke in his 40's / 50's was able to get on the pithc un challenged and then hit another town chap? this guy then appeared to go back to his seat again unchallenged!
must say though that after the game ended there was a young guy in red being dragged around the ground by a couple of stewards with his arms behind his back. they seemed to take him all the way around the ground. including past the away fans. hopefully he was arrested.
really did appear to be a total muck up though. even in block 1 there were some strange chaps who i wouldn't have thought were town fans - one guy turned up late, and appeared to spend pretty much the entire of the game at the bar getting drunk.

I'm sure many of us have seen far worse but that's not really the point. We're not on here to swap campaign stories, real or imagined.
Football's generally more civilised than in the old days and only an idiot would think that wasn't a good thing. If you or I think yesterday was no big deal but other fans think it was, who's right? Answer - they are, if it stops them coming again.
We should be celebrating a good finish to the season and looking forward to the play offs. Instead, we're talking about the embarrassing actions of a handful of boneheads. Once again we're in danger of blowing the big occasion, this time for off-field reasons.
Frankly this thread doesn't help. Lots of squabbling and a sorry few who seem to be enjoying the association with the knuckle draggers. B&A at its worst. Truly pathetic.

Think you find it was Northampton. Although it was vs Nothampton, the fighting was with a load of Bury fans who had come down as Bury needed to beat us to get into play offs at our expense.

On a day when you had a full house with supporters who had not been for a while or people going for the first time - it was disappointing - but hopefully people will realise they were idiots who did not care about the game.
What these idiots failed to realised is the players wanted to do a lap of honour with their children and their actions could of put a stop to all of that.
One other thing about Saturday - do some of our supporters have dodgy radios / internet access on their phone? Because in early in the second half there were many convinced southend had scored to make it 2-2 and everyone got excited for no reason! There were cheers in block 18 / 19 and I saw fans jumping up and down in the South stand too.

the thugs that kicked off in the first half probably have never been to a game this season. i was ashamed as to what happened as i felt the rest of the 2 blocks had been superb all the way through the game and just because some part timers who cant hold their drink kick off it takes away how brilliant the atmosphere was. and everyone should back off KieranShrews as he goes home and away and because he put a foot on the pitch everyone is ripping into him. instead of giving these morons your energy to write about them, how about we focus on the game saturday and more importantly the next 2 games

Hopefully next year then with the increase of tuition fees you might actually learn something! Your hopes are unfounded. Tuition fees are increased from 2012 and students, such as Windsor Jnr, who started their courses in preceding academic years are not affected.

what a bunch of embarrassing morons seconded. as for coming on the pitch, no excuses, bans should be handed out and details passed to the police. i am appauled that the prick in the red jacket was apparently just hauled out of the ground and sent on his merry way. a very poor example set by the club.

Hi to all on B&A im new on here but have been folloeing the posts for some time. However this thread has compelled me to register and write something. The idiots who caused all the trouble I think we all agree are not true fans and we dont want them at the club. However as a regular in block 19 the major problems on sat and in fact games like vale also are that the stewarding is poor!! if ypu have a ticket for anywhere in 16,17,18,19 you can easily get to block 19 and on a normal matchday this happens alot and there is no issue due to plenty of spare seats, but on a big game something needs to be done to ensure only those with 19 tickets get in that block, now I dont have the answer but the attitude of the stewards (one in particular) plus this issue got tempers flared on sat. I agree this is no excuse for the behaviour of some mindless idiots but please dont think everyone in block 19 is like that I stand there because it reminds me of being at the buffet box in the riverside and its a great crack, but some of the behaviour on sat was awful equally some of it was understandable from fans who turn up every week only to be told they had to move as it was overcrowded. The stewards gave up amd let everyone stand on the stairs and walkways it was a poorly run event and should be adresed before the 2nd leg of the playoffs.. COYB

The bottom line is for "family club of the year" it was a disgrace.
Fighting amongst themselves just highlighted the stupidity of the people.
a family I know have been to nearly every game this year. Their youngest is about 11 and they were sat right by where it all kicked off.
I saw them Sunday morning and the Dad was utterly dumbfounded: questioning whether to go again.

there were 2 lads who ran the length of the pitch towards the south stand to attempt escape, well i'm sure one of them was the same lad who ran on against vale, its seems on both occasions fans helped detain him, but no idea what the outcome was
just ejected i guess
if it is thats twice now in the space of a few weeks
ryan kept announcing we have very sophisticated cctv
well come on town, put your money where you mouth is
