- The Victorian Arcade - Brambles sandiwch bar on Mardol - Leaving Gay Meadow to get car from Abbey Foregate car park, driving out the back way through rough ground across what is now Asda, before Old Potts Way existed, and coming out in Old Coleham going under the railway in what is now a footpath! - Them building the bridge for the new bypass at Emstrey, where we used to fish! - The old A5 being nose to tail from Emstrey to the Grapes every Bank Holiday, caravans everywhere, all up Roman road, meole island at a standstill

I remember when a trip to Telford was something special Strange but true I remember going to Telford loads when we were kids as it was the magical place with a TEN Screen cinima! Littlewoods Cafe was always a fav when my nan and grandad us into town, and I hand more than one birthday party in Wimpys! I remember when the first view you had of returning back the Shrewsbury (from Telford) was as you rounded the corner of the ICI factory (that caught on fire that one time) near Leaton on the old A5... to be fair the view from the new A5 is actually much better! I remember when Battlefield was still mainly a feilds! I also remember when Co op was where Matalan is now in Battlefield, we did all our shoping back there in 80's late 90's. Searching for Atari ST game in Tandy which was under the Markent across where Maplin is now! Thought of another one, Sidoli's the ice cream/cafe where KFC was now Soy... everytime we went to the quarry as kids it was ice cream from Sidoli's (thought the window)...

Dimly remember a posh cafe above the Morris's store at the top of Pride Hill, lady customers were expected to wear a hat and gloves in there.
Beatles at the Music Hall and my mate quizzing John Lennon about where they got their material.
The hovels at Barker Street and the top of Frankwell where the big roundabout is now.
Only 2 people having cars on our street.
Goalies wearing flat caps, but rarely gloves.
Players over 6' tall being a rarity.
Billy Smarts Circus on the County Ground - is it still called that?
The Empire, Granada and Century picture houses.
The pontoon bridge from Darwin Gardens to the West Mid show ground.
Short back and sides 1/6d from 'Natty' Price on Frankwell Quay.
Being served pints in the Old Crow while in school uniform.
2 steam sheds (LMS/GWR), a great place for us young train spotters.

........when Shrewsbury seemed miles away from the Caaaastle. A very generous man called George Cooke used to bring us in for games, he had an old van which had seen better days. It had a soft top, which had come loose, so he used a clothes peg to keep it in place.
Coming in to one game, it was raining, when coming down a steep hill, the peg flew off, and George got water in his eye and couldn't see, so he shouted to Alan in the front seat to steer. We were all over the road before George could stop at the bottom. Not surprising really, Alan couldn't drive!

My dad often reminisces, so on his behalf he remembers seeing all the workers popping their heads up above the wall by the river in Frankwell just past the Welsh Bridge. Apparently this was where they used to skin the cattle back in the day.
Tandy - i remember some sales rep using every technique in the book to sell me a Commodore 64 i must have been only 8-10 years of age, but i was even stubborn back then and left with 2 Sega master system games instead.

The old 'witch' just up from the station selling shropshire stars. She's still about, I saw her not long back down the bottom of the cop. She looked like age was catching up with her. Anyway memories 1.Tesco being in the town centre and then it became Victor Value 2.Matalan (Grange) being the Co-op and then it was Leo's 3.The Bridge connecting the multi storey and Woolies 4.The Queen Victoria which became Lloyds 5. The Shrewsbury when it was The Brittania, with the only video jukebox in Town 6. Going for a meal when I was 10 in The Trotting Horse (now the Lion and Tap) 7. The old Kings Head, before the refurb and painting were found 8. Charlies Records Waterlane 9. Rainbow Records Fish Street 10. Durrants records High Street 11. The Criterion which became Ebeneezers, Black Bull In Paradise and then Baileys 12. Club down Mardol, which became Muswells, Burtons?, The Pig and Truffle and The Bedroom 13. The Cascade Club down the bottom of The Cop 14. Tiffanys (with Palm trees) before it became Park Lane and then Liquid and Diva. Was it something inbetween Park Lane and Liquid and Diva ? 15. The Crystal Goblet, The Fridge and Libertys 16. Saturday nights at The Oak at Shelton 17. Saturday nights at The Pengwern, Coleham 18. Dayvilles ice cream where Kentucky was 19. The Granada and The Empire as cinemas. I don't remember The Century opposite The Cornhouse 20. The Hop and Friar was The Acorn, s**thole, then refurbished, then closed. 21. Cake shop by Greyfriars bridge 22. Westerns off licence by The Prince of Wales which served alcohol to underagers.
