An interesting draw On one hand a good day out to a ground i'd imagine most of us would not have been to. On the other hand a tough draw, but playing a "bigger team" in the 1st round as opposed to the non-league efforts we've been drawn against in recent years can only add as extra motivation for our boys. This season Stoke (away) and Charlton (home) we've upped our game and played very well! It would appear some Saints fans our a little above their station however. "At home v Shrewsbury. Play the ressies. " Comments like this show a certain level of arrogance and hopefully will be for their undoing. Some interesting comments from Saints fans, www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?25893-FA-Cup-1st-Round-Draw-Sunday-Shrewsbury-at-home/page2I for one am in and I expect others will be keen to get involved. Up the Shrews!

To be fair if we were playing a team a league below us at home, Im sure we would be pretty confident. Although after recent seasons..........
Anyway, undecided and will depend on the cost. I do fancy it as never been and obviously one of the bigger grounds to go

Bad draw for me, 6 hr drive one way not good so will go to Crewe instead all being well. Went to the quarter final at the Dell in the 80s and im sure we owe them one!

Not sure. Not a great draw, really wanted to progress this season and this was arguably the toughest possible draw. Disappointed to be honest.

Mixed feelings really this...
We should be happy to get a chance to go visit such stadiums as St Mary's or? Somewhere different, when were the last time we played Saints? Has to be a fair while ago? Was it the League Cup way back when, when we them real close?
Saying that though its a really hard task to go there and get a result. But then I was thinking we were a shoe in for the 2nd round the last couple of seasons...so you never know. Recent history would suggest its best we travel as the underdogs...
I went down to Saints to see Town play at the Dell in the League Cup a few years ago and I didn't have much hope of getting owt and we came away with a draw. So you never know...
Were the fixture reversed I think we'd be a defo for the box, not so sure with it being played at Southampton. The TV folk prefer one of the big fish on the road dont they...

If the club have ambitions of playing league 1 football then Southampton are the calibre of team we will/could be playing week in week out so it's a good game to gauge the progression of STFC and see how far we have to go to compete on a regular basis.

Mid table mediocre team with delusions of grandeur. Not sure I can be arsed.

Yep, well up for this. I went in 93 in the League Cup when we lost 1-0 but Town fans were quite happy given it was a two legged affair those days. The optimism as well founded as we beat them 2-0 at the Meadow. The Blackburn games followed that result.

We have beaten 2 very good league 1 sides this year already in Charlton and Oldham so i'm really not worried about going to Southampton where i'm sure we can get a result, maybe bring them back here for a replay.

Wouldn't mind a reply. I'll wait for ticket info and the live TV games to be announced before deciding. Already beaten 3 league one teams in Tranmere (pre season) Charlton and Oldham away so no reason to say we can't do it again.
Surprised to see 2 people live in Shrewsbury and his best mate is a Shrews fan as well on the link to the saints forum thread.

Went to St Marys a couple of seasons ago to watch Southampton play Cardiff on a Sunday, the people we parked next to in Southampton were Saints season ticket holders from Wem

Bit too far for cricket this one, was hoping for somewhere like Bath City away,
TIME FOR AN UPSET I THINK
we can do something here boys, we beat Oldham who are a place above Saints in the league,
I hope it gets picked for TV coverage, does anyone know when that will be announced?
enjoy the day out for those who are going

Micky Brown's goal was stunning...a half volley from outside the penalty area before celebrating right in from of me on the Riverside...great match.

Yeah i remember a very long queue outside the old meadow and being told to run around to the oldest working turnstile in England. Only 5,500 odd there apparently but seemed like a hell of a lot more thinking back. Thats oldest turnstile didn't have a counter on it i don't think plus we all know the one on teh wakeman end always didn't click everytime it went around.
