Isn't he just a big target man like Harrold?

Isn't he just a big target man like Harrold? Scored 18 goals for them last season

Great news! While Harrold may be a big target man Zola has many other qualities to him besides being tall. He is very good at scoring with his feet as well as his head.
Harrold And Zola would be a dream partnership

Well there was a couple of rumors we put a big bid in for him in the summer. It would be interesting to see which striker is dropped if he does sign, I believe he's quite a pacey and skillful striker as well as a big target man, like Marin Morgan. Robinson on the wing maybe???

would be a good signing - we need some back up in a number of positions.

I dont think its about playing WITH harrold, rathern instead of, really other than Bright there is no cover for a target man, and as such Harrold has been playing most games week in week out, even getting a game at Bury when we probs would want to rest him for the weekend...
I dont Robinson is playing bad enough to get replaced yet, so it could be a case of sit on Crewes bench or sit on ours for Zola...
However would love to see this come off, could be a nice little impact he can make this month, and stop the forwards from resting on the laurles.

didnt crewe sign him for 200K from Tranmere a few seasons back?

interesting development. Certainly feel that we could do with backup for Harold as we can't expect him to play every game, or perhaps he has an injury problem?
don't we play crewe away in the next month too?

I could see Robinson moving on before the end of the season. L1 side down south.

An 18 goal a season league two striker, yes please! Agree with you! Proven at this level and the league above. He's tal, quick and quite skillfull from what ive heard of him. Also there is no way he will be put in to replace Harrold who has arguably been our best player this season. I imagine if he is available tommorow he would be on the bench. Robinson has been struggling to get into games recently although he has been scoring so its a tough decition. But always good to have the option.

Good signing if we get him. Going with two big lads upfront could work, especially if Zola has pace and the supply out wide is good. The risk is the temptation to hoof if things aren't going our way, but under GT i can't see this happening. A month loan is low risk and I like the idea that the places are up for grabs even when we sit high in the table - a good sign.

I agree we need cover for Harrold, but it does seem he will just swap benches.
He must have played better against other teams than he did against us - I wasn't impressed by what I saw last season

This seems a bit odd to me.
He looks to have played in more than half of Crewe's games this year. Presumably he's kicked up a fuss at Crewe because he's not first choice and clearly thinks he's good enough? There's no doubting he has the potential to do a very good job but I would have some questions..
Why is he now out of favour at Crewe?
If he wants to go out on loan to get first team football is he really going to get anything different here in the next month? I can't seem him starting in favour of either Harrold or robinson.
Wouldn't Crewe see us as potential promotion rivals, in which case, why are they helping us out?
Does seem he'd be a good addition to the squad and a good deal from our point of view, just curious as to what's in it for Crewe...

If he can rediscover his form from the first half of last season then could be a top signing.
Really important that we have another target man to push Matt Harrold. Just now Harrold has little competition for his shirt and that cannot do him any favours.
Can we now expect Bright to be shipped out? Perhaps not deemed up to challenging for a first team spot?

If he is not playing, then get his wages off the plate. More than that, Zola is out of contract soon, so Crewe probably know a bit of cash in January is better than none in the summer.

If I was Robinson and I was to be dropped I would be very very annoyed. He's our clubs top goal scorer and I think second or third of the league 2 top goal scorers. Leave him in!

But always good to have the option. I said the same regarding Robinson. The northampton game was typical - anonymous first half, and I would have changed it at half time, but fair play he was the sharpest of the 22 on the pitch in the second half. Interesting that this has come into the public domain. Turner has kept all signings very quiet up to this point, I wonder how annoyed he is that Crewe have made this public?

A definite yes from me:
- Always better to improve a squad from a position of relative strength - An 18 goal striker (in a team that struggled even more than us) is more than we've had (Holt apart) for a while. - Pressure for places has to be good and, with Bright and Elder injured, we don't have that many options up front (and it'd be wrong to expect too much too soon from Bradshaw) - Zola would enable us to mix our play a bit more. There are times when two big strikers is an advantage, besides which he's got a bit of variety in his game as I recall. - Crewe can't afford to be choosy about where he goes, same as any club at our level (as with Holden to Rotherham)
I'd be happy to see him join.

Seems a bit of a odd move to me, can only presume GT is interested in bringing in Zola to keep Harrold and Robinson on their toes, not sure if it would benefit us in the long term or anything like that, and I cant really see Zola wanting to come to us unless he can get a guaranteed start every week, otherwise it would just be pointless for him.

If its not happening yet, bit unsettling for the forwards on Saturday knowing that the gaffer is looking at brining others in, certinly ups the pressure on them for the game vs Morcambe!

Zola is listed on wikipedia as 6ft 6, on soccerbase as 6ft 2 and on the Crewe site as 6ft 3 - wonder which is correct. Decent goals/game ratio he has at crewe, would be an excellent addition but as has been said, cant see him wanting to come here to warm the bench as he has been at crewe.

Looks like Crewe are trying to up the price of a deal after the loan spell or something.
"Other clubs interested" basically sounds like a market stall trader trying to tout their goods.

Of course, the other thing I've just thought of, is that perhaps in cames where Wright or Ainsworth are unavailable, its possible to move Robinson back out wide (as Simpson did numerous times last season), and allow a Zola Harold partnership?

Do you need more than 2 strikers to win promotion? Almost certainly.
Who are our extra strikers? Bradshaw - inexperienced, be wrong to expect too much from him. Bright - has generally struggled to make an impact and now often injured. Elder - still to return from long term injury.
It's not a question of warming anyone's bench, it's a matter of having a strong enough squad. We've only played 10 games - what happens if one of the front two gets a bad knock?
Assuming a deal can be agreed, it'd be a mistake not to do it.
