blimey I hadn't realised Islam was such a big thing in Shropshire. Presumably on the train etc are already stocking up on weapons and going off to hide in Clun ready for the fight to come. One day that could well happen

Not at all, i'm just telling you what happend many years ago to traitors and cowards. If you encourage the spread of islam in the uk then you are a traitor to britain and its culture. You're also being a coward by doing this. All i'm out is to preserve my country, culture and race. I aint interested in invading other countries. Firstly, people who 'fell asleep at their post' were hung, cowards tended to be shot. Secondly, where have I (apart from in jest) shown that I encourage the spread of Islam?I'm totally indifferent either way.Not opposing something does not necessarily mean you encourage it. Lastly,I'd love to know what you think your 'race' is.Is it part Pict/Celt/Scot/Latin/Angle/Saxon/Jute/Norse/Norman/Huguenot(to name a few) like every other white person who's family have been in this country for a while?

Well from my point of view I'd like to see Shropshire become more diverse, ethnically and culturally - my experiences of places like Bradford and Leeds is that they are great places to live where the mixed communities get on well together. I've clearly not met every Muslim in the uk, but the ones I have met are decent, law abiding people just wanting to Make thier way in the world if they want to build a mosque next to my house I won't be complaining.
Culture doesn't stand still it changes and evolves

they abused our players while claiming to be british yet supporting pakistan.I for one will not surrender to this evil religion spreading like wildfire across great britain,if your prepared to live your life as a muslim baystonblue then go ahead because thats whats going to happen in 3 or 4 years time when they take over our once proud nation.Imagine your life with no pork and your wife has to wear a veil and 'celebrate' ramadan by starving yourselves for hours on end and pray to a god that doesnt even exist. And i'll take s**t for brains 2011 as well mate because no way in hell am i ever going to stop voicing my opinions on such a touchy subject "pray to a god that does'nt even exist" Don't go there mate, there's members on this board that that will discuss that comment with you long into the night. Stick to the simplier bigotry and racism point of view..... a lot safer.

Think of the food we miss out on though. The Shrewsbury branch of Asda is so basic.I couldn't believe it when I saw a branch near my mates in Woolwich. So much better, stuff you'd never heard of,and all because of the diversity of the people who live there.

My neighbour is a Muslim and he has 8 kids all very young. He said he wants them to grow up and marry English women (like he's done) and for them to have loads of children so they can do the same thing. He actually said this is so eventually Britain will become a Muslim country!
But then this is balanced out by that lad on benefits who has had 14 kids all by different women.
So at the moment I think it's pretty even. ;D

After my flippant post up thread I wasn't going to bother with this thread again, but I noted it had ran into 4 pages and a I could guess way; upon reading it I was right. Anyhow as some one who considers themselves left of centre and having a liberal attitude I actually laughed out loud at the traitor and coward comment. I mean really loud. I laughed because people who have a certain set of values; like tolerance, compassion and respect are somehow 'lefties', traitors and cowards, even those of us who spent time in the Armed Forces (22 years in my case), have the odd gong or two, a veterans badge and even a nice certificate from the MoD to prove it. I served along side Muslims, one of whom even liked a beer or two and they were just as patriotic as anybody on B & A. Every religion has it's fanatics and all the Muslims I've met have been just like the rest of us, trying to get buy while the ruling elite continue to bicker, stab each other in the back, look after their own interests and take their eye of the ball while the country falls into the mire. I read this a few weeks ago, very interesting. www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/timothy-winter-britains-most-influential-muslim-ndash-and-it-was-all-down-to-a-peach-2057400.htmlCrikey, if someone like me is a traitor and a coward and should be hanged then this fella would probably be hung, drawn and quartered, dipped in tar, feathered, put in stocks and transported to Australia.

I don't think anyone should be allowed to opt out of RE on religious grounds.
I'm not sure what RE is about nowadays. If it's all about how to become a good christian then there may be some mileage in stopping your kids from going to lessons but as far as I know RE is less about that now nowadays and more about understanding different religions and why they believe in what they do. Under that understanding I don't think anyone should be allowed to opt out. Religion is a huge part of being a human being, many people have different beliefs. Understanding different religions is important, especially in a multicultural society.
RE lessons are not brainwashing lessons.
In response to the original post I wonder if children of atheist parents would be allowed to opt out ?

Well from my point of view I'd like to see Shropshire become more diverse, ethnically and culturally - Ive heard a few comments like this about Shrewsbury/Shropshire, saying that it would be better if it was more diverse and at the moment its 'too white'. Whats wrong with that? Considering we are always told that we are all one big happy family and colour/nationality/religion should not matter anyway, why is it better to live amongst people of different colours/relegion/origin compared to people of the same background? Im not saying living amongst different people is wrong, I just hate people spouting the idea that its great to live in some big multicultural area and that its almost something to be ashamed of and backward if you live in an area which hasnt got this diversity.

Im not saying Shropshire is a bad place to live, far from it, just that widening the diversity of the population here would be good for the town and county in general. Take the theatre for example - most of the shows it puts on are quite similar, there isn't much variety in the shows. Similarly we don't get a great diversity of music acts in the town, and the eating out options are quite bland compared with other areas of the county. You just need to see how some town followers act away from home to see the lack of understanding some have of other cultures, religions and ethnic groups. My personal view is its only through mixing with others that we learn and develop, but that is a tough thing to do and doesn't always come that easily, nor should it be somthing that is imposed on people from above, as perhaps happened in other areas of the country. When I visit friends in Birmingham I'm afraid Shropshire doesn't have a great reputation and some mates aren't comfortable visiting the town. That's something that makes me a bit down hearted to be honest.

Question for the righties: Who exactly are these "evil" muslims you talk about? Have you ever met any? I live in a diverse area of Sheffield and live, work and study with people of all cultural backrounds. The Muslims i have met are tolerent and pround to be part of our great country. Never have i encountered a muslim trying to force there religion upon me or waving the Qu'an in my face. Of course there is a radical section, as there is in any faith, however is is the vast minority.
Incidently i had far more incidents with Christians such as A woman in Whitchurch shouting down at me for working on a sunday. Steet campaigers telling me i am going to hell unless i change my ways. Would i class all christians as disrespectful and militant based on these events. Of course not.
Will be bringing a muslim friend of mine to Chesterfield and Rotherham away this season. hopfully then some of you will see that Islam dosnt equal evil.

Seriously heavenly, get a new hobby. Or a job even. You've pretty much ruined this website single handedly for a lot of people.
Your viewpoint on muslims is frankly laughable and clearly based on ignorance and blind fear. There's a Sudanese family living down the road from me. I sometimes help the mother of the family with the English wording of her dissertation. When I visit, they usually give me a cup of tea and some water melon or these little filo pastry and nut things from Sudan and I watch a bit of footy with her fella.
The fiends. They must be stopped before they ruin this country with their polite conversation and delicious snacks.

Im not saying it doesnt, I just dislike the assumption that my life would be made better if I lived in a more diverse area. Im not saying your doing it but I have heard plenty of people criticise Shrewsbury/Shropshire for being almost backward for being too white but as Ive said whats the problem with that? I cant imagine a small village outside Islamabad saying " do you know what this place needs to make it better, more white Christians" You have said that your friends from Brum dont have a good opinion of Shrewsbury and are uncomfortable with coming here. Can I ask what it is they dont like and what experiences have made them form that opinion?

By the way, i hope some of you the opportunity to meet your leader, the slimebag and cohorts that are Nick Griffin and the BNP. They were recruiting in the square, just missed kicking him in the balls as i walked passed, so had to be content with buying some Italian Nougat from one of the many Italian stalls. Bloody Italians with their swarthy looks, strange music, odd worm shaped foods, what did they ever do for us?

Its a lot closer than it was 2 years ago, it gets a lot closer day by day. Muslims average 4.8 kids per family compared to white british which is currently 2.3 per family. Thats over double. Not long now. This has a familiar ring. I grew up in an Irish Catholic family in 1950's Shrewsbury and people like you hated us. I heard the 'Catholics have big families so they will be taking over' argument many, many times. Also the one about Catholics being free to commit evil acts because they could go to confession afterwards. Nothing changes except for the targets of ignorant bigotry.

Unfortunately mates from brum who gave come to Shrewsbury have been subject to racism in the town - some of it mild stuff, others more clear cut by not being served in pubs or verbal and in one case a physical attack.
There are also issues with homaphobia in the town which means it can come across as not being the most welcoming of towns. I'm not saying the majority of people go out to give this impression, but that is what some outsiders think of the town
The downside to this is that over time Shrewsbury is getting an ageing population as when youngsters go away to uni they don't come back to the town, which in turn means the newer businesses created by graduates aren't starting in the town

Unfortunately mates from brum who gave come to Shrewsbury have been subject to racism in the town - some of it mild stuff, others more clear cut by not being served in pubs or verbal and in one case a physical attack. 1. I'm not sure any sort of racism can be described as mild. It either is or it isn't. A bit like saying a womans 'mildly pregnant'. 2. Not being served in pubs. Was he under age or couldn't prove he was 18 ? I don't know of any pub in Shrewsbury that would refuse to serve anyone due to racism. 3. If the physical attack was due to racism, then fair enough. The person committing the violence probably went for an Indian or a Chinese after. Or maybe a kebab, they're quite popular. Racists tend to be a bit mixed up for many, many reasons i.e upbringing, influences or indeed for some bad experiences. I hope your mate said fk 'em, they're not going to beat me. There are also issues with homaphobia in the town There's issues of homophobia in any town. However, being a bit mixed up I suspect those very homophobics went home and put on some lesbian porn a bit later. Don't let 'em get to you, they're the fcked up ones not you or your mates. which means it can come across as not being the most welcoming of towns. I'm not saying the majority of people go out to give this impression, but that is what some outsiders think of the town Many outsiders think that of any town they don't know too well. I don't particularly like London or any city to be honest and sometimes you can go to a town which you think is going to be nice and you can feel a bad vibe and don't feel comfortable with it. The downside to this is that over time Shrewsbury is getting an ageing population as when youngsters go away to uni they don't come back to the town, which in turn means the newer businesses created by graduates aren't starting in the town New businesses are created by all sorts of people not just graduates. Shrewsbury is a medieval, relatively peaceful town that doesn't pretend to be anything else and I suspect it never will in our lifetimes. It's not particularly exciting and could probably market itself a bit better if more tourism is the name of the game and it certainly needs to relax some of it's more conservative views i.e music in The Quarry. But on the whole it's friendly enough, welcoming and a decent place to live and I think levels of racism and homophobia are probably no different to any other town or City

Your remark about genocide is beyond idiotic. Generally these racist threats are dealt with by reasoned arguments by sensible people but I do wonder whether inflammatory remarks like this belong on what is generally and friendly and welcoming site about football. Having seen the impact of genocide in Rwanda myself your comment is beyond crass, it is mindless, ill informed and risks dragging this board into the gutter where your opinions belong. Sorry to others for the rant, but for me this is oversteps the mark. I've no problem with differences of opinion and have contributed to this thread in a way I hoped was positive earlier on but find racist scaremongering unpleasant and unnecessary. Healthy debate yes, a steady drip-drip of posts seeking to stir up real or imagined divisions, no thanks.

Totally agree, but to be fair, im sure the same arguement went on 10.000 years ago, but it was the neanderthals complaining that "those bloody homosapians, you mark my words, if nobody does something soon, in 100 years time no one will be dragging their knuckles on the floor, we'll all be walking upright" unfortunately the prediction was slightly off as there still remains a few knuckle draggers in the year 2010.

When I asked why they said it was because they felt like they were outsiders, constantly being stared at and generally didnt feel welcome. The general consensus is that would portray Shrewsbury in a bad light However on the other side of the coin, I know people who have said they have been to/through Luton, Bradford, parts of Birmingham, parts of London etc and didnt feel comfortable The reason for this is they were very much in the minority, constantly being stared at, and generally not feeling welcome. However when they have expressed those thoughts, they have been shouted down and said its their prejudices showing through What Im trying to say is that people from ethnic backgrounds visiting Shrewsbury may find it a completely different environment and dont feel welcome however when people from small market towns visit the big diverse cities, they may have the same thoughts too.

Have to concur, my old next door neighbour was a scronging single mother from Afghanistan who has had a flat on the social for 22 years!
The only issue,is that she was really friendly, used to offer us a lift to the gym if she drove past, apologised for the noise her son made, always stopped for a chat in the street and invited me round a couple of weeks back to tuck into some Eid treats whilst discussing how the area had changed since she had lived there as well as the scourge on her society-The Taliban.
She only has one child, does this mean she is a crap Muslim, or is she merely saving up the other 3.8 for her dottage?
