I love the fact that it was HRH Prince Phillip who welcomed him on the tarmac at Edinburgh airport...wonder if they both addressed each other in their mother tongue ? I also thought it would have been more appropriate if a detachment from a Bavarian infantry regiment had been the guard of honour rather than scottish soldiers. . Prince Phillip was born in Corfu (Greece) you imbecile. He was merely educated in Germany.

Prince Phillip was born in Corfu (Greece) you imbecile. He was merely educated in Germany. I'm perfectly aware of that my friend, however he was born in Corfu purely by chance. He is german, his heritage is german, his brothers and sisters were SS officials in the war...don't tell me he's Greek.

I think it's much more interesting whem there's more than one Pope. Can't we have an Anti Pope visit too,to make it fair?
Suprisingly,I'm not too fussed over footing the bill for this event. The Government waste a lot more money on other programs(our "independent" nuclear " deterrent" for one).£12 million is a trivial amount in Government terms, and if it helps highlight how completely out of touch some very powerful religious people are,so much the better.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall when The Pope meets The Queen. All English/British Monarchs since Henry Vlll have had the title Fidei Defensor(Defender Of The Faith),which was given to 'Enry by The Pope for denouncing Luther and defending the established Catholic Church.
As head of the C of E,our Monarchs(with one or two exceptions)have been defending another faith entirely!
Add on the fact that if you are Roman Catholic, you are(still) barred from the British throne,it's all pretty funny when you think about it. It's also complete and utter nonsense, and it's a sad fact that The Pope is a current affairs issue, and not just a chaptor in a history book.

All the roads are going to be closed, what a pain in the ar$e. Not the best phrase to use about a catholic priest! So far the pope has met prince Philip, Susan Boyle and Boris Johnson - no wonder he thinks the uk is mad In this day and age the whole pope thing seems a bit odd - it's fairly clear the catholic church is built on rather unsteady foundations, yet it's leader is doing very little to alter things. Next summer let's pay £12 million for people to worship Harry potter in the park - at least Harry exists (he does you know I've seen it written in books)

The paedophile protecting Pope should not have been invited to the UK at all. Mind you, 12 million quid is nothing compared to what we (the tax payers) have given to the banks. The world's gone mad!

Working in Glasgow City centre, I only cared if the 70,000 that desended to Bellahouston Park affected my journey to and fro work.
They didn't so I don't.

Who did the risk assessment?!

Catholicism really does take the p*ss. As far as I’m aware jesus was supposed to be a poor son of a carpenter who lived amongst the people – not quite in keeping with a luxurious private state and a £20million funded security visit. And apparently one of the reasons he’s over here is in the hope that they can address things like poverty!!!
And what's the big fuss about too he's an old man (possibly senile) elected by various other old men (possibly senile). How an old man's comments and thoughts on things like contraception can be taken seriously by millions of people is beyond me

I can't understand atheists like Fry who get hot and bothered about religion. If you are an atheist then your non-belief in God be should as much a part of your life as your non-belief in unicorns or fairies at the bottom of the garden. Chill. I get the impression he's more hot and bothered about the status of the Vatican as a country and thus the 12 million quid it's costing the tax payer.

The Popemobile may have 3 inch bullet proof glass and an engine that will go at 120mph , BUT When it stops in Birmingham it will still end up on bricks .

For the past year I've been working part time for a local church and from what I've seen organised Christianity is is a desperate condition.
Dwindling, elderly congregations, old buildings that are costly to maintain, difficulty recruiting clergy, lack of volunteers (which is why I'm being paid to do admin) and not enough money coming in to cover costs.
The church I work at is mainly used for community activities; scouts, Weight Watchers, line dancing etc - worship is just a sideline.
It seems to me that ecumenicalism will come about because of economic necessity as there are not enought practising Christians to keep all the churches and chapels going.
I should also say that since working at the church I've met many genuinely good people of faith who I very much admire.

It seems to me that ecumenicalism will come about because of economic necessity as there are not enought practising Christians to keep all the churches and chapels going. I should also say that since working at the church I've met many genuinely good people of faith who I very much admire. I've been to several ecumenical services(just non roman christians mostly) and it seemed to me that everybody hated them! The high church,anglo-catholic,incense swinging, marching traditionalists looking down their noses at the non comformist, born again, happy clappers, who couldn't stand the dogma and the withdrawn style of worship of the others.Pure comedy. Churches, like football clubs, probably will come round to the conclusion that relying on one big fixture once/every other week will not pay the bills, but can you imagine the sign outside? Jesus is the son of God,or perhaps he's just a Prophet. Take Communion every Sunday with the flesh and blood of the Lord,or perhaps it's actually just bread and wine and purely representative,we're not sure. There are some incredible people who have faith of this kind as you say. There was what I then considered a sillly old lady who went to church every week, hardly spoke to a soul.Just a harmless no-one.I found out much later, after talking with her and others, that she spent nearly 50 years of her life in Africa as a doctor, simply because she felt it was her role in life to look after those in greatest need.Incredible lady. Anyhoo, getting back on topic slighlty,I saw a great tweet in the paper today about The Pope, which went something like- "Nothing shows a firmer faith in God than 3 inches of bullet proof glass!"

The one person who will care is the guy or girl who has lost their seat at the event to the charlatan Bliar, I mean he's been a left footer for two minutes and gets top billing....... When you think about it it's all the rich and powerful that are there, keep the poor out of site tactics. Jesus will not be happy......

He believes in un-protected sex because
1. You must be married before you have sex and cannot be divorced. This was the golden rule, thats one of the reasons Henry VIII basically created his own church of England. 2. If you are homosexuel you are more likely to spread HIV 3. If some sick **** hadn't had sex with a Monkey, Gorilla, Ape or whatever it was traced back too, HIV would have never been a problem. 4. However the Cathelic church controdicts itself with its own priests being paedophiles. 5. I think it shows what a sick world we live in. To me all above is ****ing wrong from being Gay, having sex with other species, and being a paedophile any man or woman with any sense can see this is wrong.
