Should be a decent game, especially with it being Hodgson's first Premier League game with Liverpool. I'd like to see Arsenal win, personally.
Live on Sky Sports 1 & HD1, programme just started. Kick off is 4pm.

what do you class as a decent game Ned?
I fear for English football. Just done Forest v Leeds : Absolute Tosh.
Don Revie and Brian Clough would be turning in their graves.
No skill, no style, not even any rough and tumble - just strong men running lots and trying to see who can kick the ball the hardest and the furthest (Kasper Schmichel probably won)
No one can trap the ball, no one can run in to space and be picked out by a dynamic midfielder, it is just kick ball of the highest order. . ..And they say they want more Englishmen in the Premier League - well they are only going to come from the Championship!! if so God help us!

Yep, Don Revie would be turning in his grave - why kick the ball when you could kick the man!!

When Revie's men kicked the man, at least the opposition players got up had a moan and got on with it - these tossers with their socks up above their knees go down like a sniper has got them from the top of the floodlights

It's the two extremes really isn't it Matt. The dirty cheating kicking barsteward and the dirty cheating diving barsteward.
Personally I can't stand either.

I spoke to Dave Poutney about the same thing a couple of months back. The up and coming kids dont have a clue how to head a ball and the same goes for making tackles. I have seen only one kid from shrewsbury who would have a chance of making it as a pro in the last 3 years and its a shame as he wants to play rugby for shrewsbury instead of football. When i have seen kids play football in my work they all either seen to be full of tricks or falling over making out they are injured. If school or kids football carry on the way its going. It will be rst in peace to English football.

Are any of you genuinely surprised by Billys observations. the national team has been the epitomy of what Matt has said for years. Kick it hard, run fast (and for 95mins), and have that british up-and-at-em attitude.......forget, technical brilliance (not keepy uppies..), forget tactical astuteness, and forget playing for a team.
BTW - no problems with Joe Coles red card in this game either.

BTW - no problems with Joe Coles red card in this game either. I thought it was harsh? I thought it was a red card, but at the same time I thought Wilshere's challenge on Mascherano was a red card. No consistency.

Definite red although he had eyes on the ball, it was late and both feet were up.

Interested in what way you think it harsh? 2 footed, off the ground and caught the lad, and nowhere near the ball. doesnt matter if there was no intent, the red for 2 feet off the ground in a tackle was a ruling from FIFA wasnt it?

Harsh red card, but the rules mean it must be one. Was about to say its going to ruin the game, but Ngog has changed that. Yeah, Almunia probably shouldn't be beaten there, but I wish he would get more credit from Sky for the finish, if it was Torres, Drogba etc they'd be raving about the great hit!

A lot was made of the Sunderland sending off yesterday, about Refs picking on certain players by reputation. I'm not aware of Joe Cole ever being sent off, so the refs should be using common sense in those situations, yes a yellow but not a red.

Cattermole deserved both yellow cards IMO.

One of the few times Sky come out with anything balanced but the commentator did say at the start of the 2nd half, it's the referees job to make a decision based on the foul and the foul alone. Which was spot on i thought, if Lineker had've elbowed a player on the pitch even though he never picked up a card in his career (extreme example i know) would that mean that the referee had to think, well he wouldn't do that so maybe i didnt see it right they have to go with what they see regardless of personality, Sometimes even the coolest calmest player can have a flash of anger and make a stupid decision.

1-1 draw with arsenal on opening day with a new manager and some new players is a pretty good result overall especially when down to 10 men for half the game.
Every keeper has a howler now and then, he more then made up for it with the brilliant save before. Sucks to lose out on 3 points due to something like that though.
Roll on next week.

Why don't 'keepers wear caps anymore?
I was thinking about that at Macc yesterday and Reina has just made the point for me.
