That was hard work!
Well worked goal after 3 minutes, then backs to the wall for 42, don't know how Macc failed to score. I thought Hamshaw and Butcher bossed midfield and we were unable to put passes togher or retain posession.
Better in the 2nd half, Macc didn't get the chances they had in the first. Our defence looked solid and covered each other well.
Super cameo by Benji, he'll be pushing for a starting place, deserved a goal for his great run and shot that came back from the underside of the bar.
Worrying signs that some of the stars may not shine so bright away from home.

But we won still though yeah so maybe that's more important than stars shining?!

Was always going to be difficult as our speed merchants didn't have the same space on the tight Moss Rose pitch. It's quite clear things are still gelling but we showed great character and neither of our keepers (Smith off injured) had a real save to make. Some of the defending was a bit ponderous but with a new back 4 and keeper it has to be expected. Clean sheet is a big bonus however.
No way were we going to be treated to the same thrills as Sat and Tues but i'm sat on the train heading home VERY content indeed.
Great spirit shown once again. Wasn't pretty but it's another 3pts we'll cherish come May.

From the commentary it sounded like some big hefty tackles wetn in especially on Ainsworth. Unfortunately I think this will be a regular thing.

Not a great performance but away at macc 3 points was the main priority. They seem to be our bogey team.

First time I've seen us win at Macc!
Not pretty and our midfield failed to get going on a narrow pitch that didn't really induce wing play, hence neither Ainsworth nor Wright really got into the game.
I thought our defence were very well organised against a very big and strong Macc side with Danny O'Donnell especially winning everything in the air all afteroon.
Matt Harrold was immense up top and Benji excellent when he came on and very unlucky to hit the bar with a thunderbolt.
Overall, I'm more than happy with a scrappy, ugly and hard fought away victory in Cheshire.

Good point about the narrow pitch. Also, the programme said that it had been relaid, they kept the bumps and furrows though.

Sounds like a hard won 3 points today - getting a win at Macclesfield is always a good result and I'm sure turner will have learned more about the team today
What's been positive so far is how when we've struggled in games we've been able to adjust tactics and put in improved second half performances

a clean sheet is what i wanted to see today and we got one hard game and the passing wasnt flowing like it can but they dug deep and got the points.

Good result as in past seasons we have beaten the promotion teams and lost to teams like Macclesfield.

Not a great performance, but you can't be on top of your game every week. The main positive is obviously the fact we ground out the result.
Also, it was good to see a massively improved defensive performance today, especially from our centre backs, after a few teething problems in the first couple of games.
Central midfield did look a bit of a worry today though, it has to be said.

Great 3 points away but with better finishing especially from crosses by their strikers and the story could well have been different...............
Well done lads

Personally thought we did well today. A very good gritty performance. Harold was fantastic leading the line dispite getting nothing off the ref and a battering off there center backs.
Robinson was a bit of a passenger today and didnt get into the game at all.
Benji did very well when he came on, and deserved a goal for that great shot that hit the bar.
Defence was superb, ALL of them, especially Sharps and Sadler.
Disley worked really hard in midfield and was one of our better players.. Macca was poor today, lost the ball far to often and wanted far to much time on the ball, im sure its something that he can adjust to though.
The two wingers Wright and Ainswoth wernt as effective going forward as in midweek of last weekend but i thought they both did there job for the team today, always in position and always offerd an outlet.
Not the best performance but professional non the less and 3 points at the end of the day. Tough place to go aswel.

Today was a battle and we came out on top which is most pleasing, I'm sure every Town fan will gladly accept a 1-0 victory away from home every weekend. As far as the display went i thought we battled well and are energy levels were terrific, right up until the final whistle. We never got going and like GT said the Macc pitch was smaller which stopped us from playing are normal passing game out to the wide men. The outstanding performers for me today were the back four, O'Donnell in particular for me and Craig Disley who was fantastic in the midfield today, especially with his defensive side of the game. Overall a big win for us and one which will be important come the end of the season. More of the same battling performances please Salop

Two key changes for me needed for an away game: Ainsworth and Wright HAVE to stop the crosses coming in. Sadler / Raven were hung out to dry a few times with overlaps etc. We need a bit more coming back from wide, especially when you have players like Reid bombing past you.
Secondly: I though second half when Benji was just off Harrold he was much more involved in midfield and we were less overun in midfield. I do think away from home if we are carrying two pacy wingers we may need 4-5-1 with a player like Benji alternating between up front and midfield depending on where the ball is.
I certainly thought O'Donnell and Sharps (less so) really put their shift in today and won a lot of the crosses coming in. Neal still doesn't leave me that confident but a hard way for him to be chucked in. I thought McAllister and Disley were given the run around a bit but to be honest i thought they were isolated against some very experienced players at this level.
Harrold was just immense: every inch what we need at this level and something we have not had for a while. he gave their centre backs hell, and a real beating himself. An absolutely selfless shift.

Workmanlike team performance today with the back 4 looking the part, O'Donnell and Raven impressed in particular with Disley working his socks off in midfield and Harrold seemingly everywhere, great to see him defending and heading the ball clear in his own 6yard box in the dying minutes, he's got one hell of a tank of energy - 3 games in 8 days and in each game he's worked his nuts off.
Well done The Town!

I really can't agree with the comments made about Disley on here.
I thought he was very poor and gave the ball away far too often.
Wright and Robinson were my other poor performers.
The rest dug deep and ground out a result but it wasn't the most pretty of performances.

Teams who harbour ambitions of departing npower league two, will need to roll up their sleeves and prepare for a battle at Moss Rose. A horrible pokey little place with zippo atmosphere, and opponents who are big and physical who work very hard. I agree it wasn't pretty, but Town have been accused in the past of being too one-dimensional. We showed a grit and character today that was missing too many times in recent seasons. An immense victory in my view.

Not good for my nerves.
Harrold man of the match for me - worked hard, held the ball up, and battered their centre halves. Wingers and McAllister anonymous.
How come we decided to go back to hoof ball after the last two matches, where we passed and moved? Small pitch and the wind?
Still, happy for the 3 points, obviously :-)
Up the Town.

A well worked goal and some good defending from our team today.
We did what we needed to - score and then keep them out for 80+ minutes.
Not pretty but effective and we could have had a goal or two more with a bit of luck.
First time I've seen us win at Macclesfield.
A good 3 points in my opinion.

Small, bumpy pitch and the game affected by the wind, yeah, that was us "WINNING UGLY" as they say. In parts we looked o.k. but never reached the heights of our last two performances at home. I can live with that, at least we came home with 3 lovely points. Macca and Disley did a job for me, without really controlling midfield, but they worked hard throughout. MOM.. SHARP without a doubt. Their Manager accussed us of just sitting back after we scored, can't see that. Pushed back on many occasions, but we tried to take the game to them and had a number of chances, so we were'nt ultra defensive. He also said he would'nt swop his squad for ours, so i think he was well p**sed off.

Personally I thought that was a fairly comfortable victory. Admittedly there were a couple of very poor efforts from Macclesfield's front two that should have worked Neal, but I always felt we were playing in second gear after the goal, and could have stepped it up if necessary. There was never a period of sustained Macclesfield pressure in which I thought a goal was inevitable.
Sharps edges MOM for me, though it was an impressive effort by the entire back 5. Was also impressed by the sheer amount of running Harrold did. Still early days, but if he can keep up his early season form we won't miss Hibbert too much.

If you're going to get promoted you have to be able to play football when you need to but you also need to be able to scrap a point or 3 when your game is being stifled and you're under pressure like today, so not greatly concerned that it wasn't the best performance today.
Thought Harrold was excellent the defence seemed a lot steadier and more solid than last week and great appearance from Benji full of running and both on and off the ball and had a couple of great chances was very unlucky to see one come off the underside of the bar. Robbo had a great chance right in front of goal but opted to pass it out wide to Wright which confused me.
Another 3 points so its all good!

Thought it was a fantastic team display in which everyone played their part and kept the shape of the team well
In the past Town teams would never have managed to do that, so a huge positive in my eyes that we played the way we did
We can't play champagne football every week in tis league and I'll take a hard fought 1-0 anyway if it means we get promoted at the end of the season
In my eyes that goes down as a brilliant 3 points - I was absolutely stunned by the amount of moaning and whinging going on behind me

Good team display - I wish we would push on a bit more rather than try to defend. Two wide attacking midfielders may be a luxury away from home - I think we needed a bit more presence in midfield for future away games perhaps Macca and Macintyre or perhaps Leslie rather than Wright?
Looked liked champions absorbing pressure and resticting the home team generally though. Well Done!!!

Got a feeling that GT may review his options when it comes to similar away trips like Aldershot, Stevenage and Accy.
I remember well the adventurous 4-3-3 simmo deployed at Dagenham last season. Against a better team we may have been exposed like that again.

They seemed to pack the midfield whenever they could which made it difficult to bring the ball down and pass. Unfortunately this meant the Disley was unable to get on the ball much. Macca impressed me in the last twenty though, seems to have a calm head and was happy to take a booking for the team where needed.
Harold was excellent but it was the back four that really impressed me. Held strong and limited them to the one real chance all game with Sadler also doing really well for the goal. Sharps impressed me in particular, there was a moment in the first half where O'Donnell got caught out and Sharps threw himself into a cracking tackle.
I tend to go to Macclesfield most years, in recent years we have lost/drawn plenty up there, this was an important victory no matter how it came.
