Good backs to the wall performance fromt the guys today, great trip, really enjoyed it and Macclesfield and its ground is pretty geniune, right now for the game
For some reason, I was glad Neal got his chance today and kept a clean sheet, its tough on Smith but techincally in the warm ups today I thought Neal looks better.
Sadler made a great goal today in the first half he was sound, but I was shocked in the second when on a couple of occassions he completely lost his man in the box for corners, he was also vulnerable to the long ball over. Sharps was solid today, O'Donnell was actually my man of the match. Raven like Sadler was good first half but second was playing catch up and he worried be a lot.
Midfield, Disley fantastic, Wright pretty good, Ainsworth was quiet today but is probably technically/tactically and quick enough to do just enough, McAllister battled hard but his size worries me, I thought he a hammering today.
Harrold was a great target man today, he really does add something, Robinson like Ainsworth quiet but is developing a hard work ethic, I feel Van Den Broek is technically on the ball far superior to anyone else on the pitch, Macclesfield simple couldn't get the ball from him,
O'Donnell Man of the Match, if Van Den Broek was on the pitch for 90mins it could have been him, Disley, Harrold and Sharps weren't far behind

Strange how differently people can see the same match! For me Disley failed to get into the game and did very little. VDB should get his chance ahead of him next week IMO.

First experience of the new Turner era for me yesterday.
Thought for his all around play, at both ends of the field, Harrold was MOM by a mile. His link up, hold up play and movement is very good, whilst he was a presence defending at each of the Macc set pieces. O'Donnell improved somewhat second half, but for me he looks a concern. First half he was caught square on to the ball, flat footed far too often and generally looked like he wasnt match sharp. Our centre mid seemed second to the ball a lot, maybe some fatigue from Tuesday nights exertions, and although Macc bypassed the midfield I think ours were too slow, dropped too deep almost onthe centre halves, & didnt pressurise the ball enough. In possession we werent sharp.
BVdB looks a real impact player. Created his shot onto the bar through hard work, and persistence.
The sort of game we need to win, a clean sheet is a bonus. Many other teams will go there and struggle I feel.

Im assuming Macc had watched us and realised they needed to pressurise central midfield to stop the passing game and stop the supply to the wingers. It worked for most of the game and we couldnt string too many passes together which I give them credit for because of the pressing.
Macc were an effective side without being a pretty side, plenty of pressure from them with lots of balls put into the box and they obviously had a number of physical and big players playing for them.
We didnt play particuarly well but we battled and stood up and ground out a win. Make no mistake that with the style of play Macc have and the number of big players they have, they will turn over a number of teams at their place so I think this is a big win for us.
In the Bradford & Charlton games we proved we can play attractive, passing football. Yesterday we proved we can also grind out a win

Good to see we could win when not really deserving of it. From the goal onwards, it was macclesfield attacking right til half time, so fair play to the defence who, marshalled by a much much improved Sharps, kept them out very well.
Second half, particularly with Benji on, was much improved and as soon as we put the ball down on the floor and kept it the pressure was relieved and the goal line clearance at the end apart we comfortably played out the 2nd period.
Harrold was brilliant today, as was Sharps. As for those in midfield, well the wingers couldn't find space on such a narrow pitch and the middle two, both Disley and Mcallister, were poor for me and I didn't see what others have done in Disley. Both, more so the new Macca, were over run and I personally can't wait for the old macca to make his comeback, a man who never shirks a challenge and wins us more back than you realise. However despite this, good win, good three points.

There is no way VdB can replace Disley - if he gets a start it will be at the expense of Robinson or one of the wingers, and I doubt that will happen at home, but may for some tough away games, similar to macc yesterday

I think we missed McIntyre yesterday, for his battling qualities in midfield. We can probably cope without him at home, when we are dictating the play, but away from home I am not sure McAllister and Disley together will work on a regular basis.
Matt Harrold and Ian Sharps......AWESOME today!!

As 0-1s go it was fairly comfortable. Macc put us under pressure but didn't actually create much and our keepers hardly had a save to make. Very few moments when an equaliser looked close and I expected us to get a second. I've never seen us win at Macc before but that's probably one of the better Macc teams I've seen.
We didn't really get going with the ball but I was pleased to see we could grind out a win as well as do the sparkling stuff we'd seen at home. Much improved defensive performance all round.
Well done Chris Neal - never easy for a sub keeper but he looked solid throughout and had some tricky balls to take. Seeing some of the handling errors from Premier League keepers yesterday, that shouldn't be taken for granted.

Seeing some of the handling errors from Premier League keepers yesterday, that shouldn't be taken for granted. He nearly cocked it up at the end though with waiting for the ball to come to him, rather than going to collect the ball. Luckily O'Donnell had followed in and cleared First half with Macc's pressure and the amount of crosses they were putting in I was very nervous and thought it was only a matter of time before they scored. However they actually created very few clear cut chances and in the second half I realised that although they had a giant strike force, they didnt look the most threatening of players.

A good early goal followed by a period of Macc pressure where we gave them too much space down the flanks. The pleasing aspect was that they were restricted to shots from outside of the area.
The second half was much improved - more cover for the full-backs and barely a shot, let a alone a decent chance for the home side. At the other end we forced some decent efforts through VDB, two Wright efforts and a header from O'Donnell.
Another big positive was the demonstration by the manager on how to change the game - firstly by making sure the wingers protected the full-backs more second half and also the decision to bring VDB on to offer us more retention of the ball up front.
Not the 'perfect' performance but a decent one, and an excellent result.

Agreed ProudSalopian, but that's the only mistake I can remember him making and we covered it well enough.
The quality of crossing from Macc wasn't great (Reid was dreadful 2nd half) and you're right, their strikers didn't look the sharpest.
We'll need to play better but, as a first away game, it was fine.

Although we didn't play particulary well it was still a decent defensive performance, aside from the one shaky moment where Neal dropped the ball and it was cleared of the line. I think maybe we scored a bit too early which menat the game seemed to fail to ever open up. Having said that nice it's to get a win at what could have been a potential banana skin and well worth the journey

Not the 'perfect' performance but a decent one, and an excellent result. That was a major concern, the overlapping full backs and pressure that put us under. We were fortunate that in the second half, when they were forced to cross from deeper rather than get in behind, their crossing found the away support rather than a Macc player. I was surprised they didnt stick Nat Brown upfront during that last 10min spell when sunk deeper and deeper. Grateful they didnt, but surprised nonetheless.

Someone asked me in the Railway View when I started making notes just after I ate one of their pies whether I was writing a review of pies. He was close: Link------> Real ale pubs in Macclesfield

Small, bumpy pitch and the game affected by the wind, yeah, that was us "WINNING UGLY" as they say. In parts we looked o.k. but never reached the heights of our last two performances at home. I can live with that, at least we came home with 3 lovely points. Macca and Disley did a job for me, without really controlling midfield, but they worked hard throughout... What job was it? I heard Disley went on a carpentry course when he was recovering from injury last season, so did he knock together a quick chest of drawers for you?
