Just to draw a line under this one. Colin Poole was the man I was talking about for the last few months. He owns Netley Hall in Dorrington and made £36million pounds out of the sale of Claims Direct a few years back. He's not investing in the club at the moment, this was the "alternative involvement" to which I was referring. Good man, good appointment. www.shrewsburytown.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10443~479053,00.html?

Aye, I'd heard that rumour too PPP.
Maybe the board want to see how he does working/ caring for the club before allowing him to invest in it??

His estimated wealth from the 2003 list in the Times was around 45 million I believe. A good appointment which may rattle our councillors one hopes.

The council will have no chance now trying to win the battle of the covenant - His barrasters are the best in the business, thats why they made so much money.

PPP, out of interest - is he a football fan?
What are his reasons for wanting to invest?
I understand fully that you might not be able to say too much.

Not happy about his appointment at all.
Used to work for the guy at Claims Direct so I know a lot more than most about this man. Best to look on the co-lin powel at the meadow thread for my reasons against him joining

He is suppose to have a five-a side pitch in his back garden.
Think he likes football.

Believed to be putting in £100,000 initially. See how it works then possibly more.
Certainly for once the rumours about this guy proved true

My brother plays 5-a-side at Netley Hall with him. Says he's a nice down to earth guy, though very competitive!!! at football. Know all about his past from the press(For what that's worth) Seems to invested abit in grass roots footie by sponsoring a team locally. I can see why people are worried, but all succesful buisness men abit, well you know Lets see how it pans out, so far well done CP and Salop

He's a very big football fan and has been attending games at the Meadow for some time now I'm don't think the £100,000 investment thing is true though Shalln't say any more at this stage

PPP, are you the guy I had a chat with in Rowleys House a couple of months ago? If so I must publically apologise for privately thinking that you were a nutter with a crazy fantasy about a millionaire joing the board

in their defence, there are a lot of silly things posted on here from "a source close to the club"
although respect to you, you were right, and it gives u a bit more credibility i reckon

Let me get this straight, we have brought in someone from outside the club, who has little if no expereince at running a football club to run the club on a daily basis. Is that not what Judy is for?
he is neither on the board (paid to be on it) nore being paid by the club, call me cynical but what ties does he have to the club or could we say get shafted big style, with him just free to walk off into the sunset or back to Netley Hall as the case may be.
I'm just wondering.

I'm just wondering. No Rob that isn't the case. He's invested money into the club. The position is un-paid. His job is to 'increase non-matchday revenue' - so his position is very different to that of Judy Shone's.

So currently none of the STFC board get paid anything (this is referring back to a thread a few months ago) and now Colin Poole isn't getting paid anything to do this job? Sorry but I'm not buying it, he's a businessman not Mother Theresa.
I don't think it's much of an issue though but I just cannot believe he would do this for a freebie.

As a member of the board of directors at STFC you are effectively paying to have the privledge to be in that position.
Whether the directors + CP are thinking about making money in the long term is another debate...

Very true that young Ant our kid...
There is a lot of prestige that goes with being on the board of a football club and as Town are his local team, I can understand why he would wish to join. Not too sure how an extra pair of hands can harm the club anyhows, lets see what he can do eh?
With regards to the staff at the club, who has experience of working within football? Was Judy at another club before she joined the Town? Have we ever employed someone within the admin and business side of the game from another club?

Seemed to say the right things this morning on Radio Shrops- he is not receiving a fee for the job!! Any appointment which may help the NM over the last hurdle has got to be worth it
