Amen to this. If you know you’re going to have one of the weakest squads in the division then you need to make sure you’re good at set pieces. I think one of our issues is that we don’t have many tall players, and none of our tall players, other than Nsiala, are particularly good in the air. Feeney, Pierre and Bloxham are all big lads, but never a threat from set pieces. I’d actually love to know from our older fans if there has ever been a player like Bloxham, who is a very good height and yet so poor in the air. You could see it at Wrexham where Lloyd would peel off to the wings for goal kicks because Bloxham couldn’t win the first header. I’ve seen players almost a foot shorter than him who’re better in the air (e.g Josh Daniels) It’s a real waste, as a 6”4 winger who’s good in the air would be a real asset. Savin’s kicking has been hit and miss so far, but they’re always aimed out wide towards Bloxham, and he quite often inexplicably misses the header which makes Savin’s kicking look a lot worse than it is. I think we’d be better off looking for Shipley on the other wing, he’s probably better in the air.

He’s even taller than Bloxham I believe but was awful in the air & would get bullied by defenders

My prediction is Lloyd will go the same way as Langmead. Initially popular because of the effort he puts in and how he makes life difficult for defenders but after a while people will get frustrated by lack of goals.

Why not play Lloyd out wide on the right where Tom Bloxham plays, at least Lloyd can win balls, he just needs to give it to Castledine who in turn would feed Marquis.
If the Feeneys are making the back line tighter then there is the need for the two in front of the defence.
Bring O'Reilly back if possible.

We have a good attacking side that lacks height , so ditch the aimless crossing , keep the ball on the floor and attack in packs opening goal v orient is the perfect example of what we can do to suit what we have available , both the other goals v orient were from runs from outside the box too

Hurst doesn't know what his best team is does he ! Looks that way. The debate we have about selections...I expect him and Doigy have the same debates.

Didn't see the game live as was busy at the weekend, but from the highlights looked like a game of few chances and not much between the sides.
As others have said we seemed to get in good crossing positions but had few players capable of getting on the end of the crosses in the box. Seems a bit odd we have a side set up to create from out wide not to have a decent target man up front to make the most of the chances, and there is a general sense of the summer recruitment looking a bit confused.
Still early days but its difficult to say what our best starting 11 is. O'Reilly looked our best player in the first few games, but is out if favour now; as is Marquis who hasn't really impressed and Nsiala's struggles make his re-signing seem a misjudgement. Josh Feeney looks a good prospect though and the Feeney's partnership at the centre of defence could be something to build the side around. As in recent seasons though we're left kind of hoping one of the forwards will come good and get 12-15 goals this year to help the side pick up points.

im not so sure it was a sun problem, it was more to do with our set up, we literally have 4 or 5 players who do nothing during the whole corner, Gilliead being the worst culprit, he simply doesnt move from start to finish, their guy comfortably wins the header at the back, and it loops towards another unmarked guy at the back post and its too little to late from the keeper and one other of our players to react, nothing to do with the sun, just poor set up, zero picking up, zero effort in winning the ball, a perfect example of men v boys there, watch the corner over a few times and you'll see it, put it on slow speed , you'll see it even more That was the only peice of poor defending for the whole game. I still feel Savin should have done better. You know more than me about being a keeper but his positioning looks poor. He gets nowhere near the ball and it drops just off centre. It was clear to every man and there dog where the ball was going when it was headed at the back post. Maybe Savin was expecting a shot at his near post. Too many defenders ball watching which isnt acceptable at a corner.

Some really good crosses went into the ball but they were all wipped high balls. Cant recall any low crosses or pull backs. Wrexham caused us real problems with them and it gets the defenders guessing.

Ii is difficult to know the best balance between our improved center backs, keeping the midfield were it is now that has stopped teams walking through it as they once did ,but now trying to sort out the last bit of the puzzle were do the goals come from. ? My concern about changing the midfield is whilst the center backs is much tighter thanks to the two Feeneys ,our left back and right back are error prone and nether have have had the best start to the season. which is why they need extra protection ,which goes out of the window when Bloxham comes on as he does not track back. To be fair to Hoole he did have a better game against Charlton but when he is put under sustained pressure or faces a winger with pace, he looks like a rabbit in the headlights and dithers.

After the ball is heading to the back post the keeper has to cover that half of the goal in case the chap heads for goal , as savin moved to cover his near post the likes of gilliead who was doing nothing should have taken up a spot of the goal line ,the fact his header looped all the way to the back post should not have been a danger as others should have been picking up free runners , it was a shambles that looks like the keepers fault when he was doing his job , of course he could have made a better attempt at getting a hand on the ball but he needs help and got none whatsoever

On the day it was disappointing to lose to such an avoidable soft goal.

That's why I'd divert some of Lloyd's effort to help Hoole, he can clearly follow orders. Must admit it doesn't look good for Winchester. I'd have Gilliead and Perry as my two holding midfielders.

You can't fault Winchester work rate but he lacks the physicality to be a holding midfielder. Perry has been transformed since he became a holding midfielder so I would have Perry over Winchester in that role. But will Hurst think the same or keep him warming the bench ?

In the star Hurst said" that he had not brought O'Reilly off the bench as he did not feel he had much on impact when he came on as a sub".
I am rather surprised by this statement, I know there was some mention about what he had said on Instagram but as I don't have that I don't know what was said on that.
I assumed he had not come on because he could not play Sageo and O'Reilly because of the formation.
I know Hurst knows a lot more about management than I ever will but in this case I don't agree with him, I thought O'Reilly has played really well and causes the opposition some problems.

Tommi has only been sub once, came on at 3-0 v wrexham, ok he did nothing, neither did the other 2 subs who came on at 3-0 down last week, both of which started, I'd like to start a conspiracy and say words were had last week , just hope we get to see some of his pre season form again asap
