Generally agree with most of your post Loudbloke, although I was a fan of Nolan first time around, unsure whether he can cut it, - all feels a little surreal with Hurst, Doig, Toto and now Nolan in the building.
Still the war isn't won in a pre season away at Oldham, good on all those that went.
Will see what the stragglers brought in between now and the end of August can do.
Whilst I have some concerns, the squad is more of Hurst's liking, certain in midfield and there are players that can play his 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 system.

Can't see the players being completely on 100% yesterday, especially with the first game being only a week away...none of them will not want to get injured this early!!!!

I have seen enough this pre-season to be confident we can be competitive. There will be dark times and great moments but I certainly feels more positive than I did a month ago. Let the fun begin!

I'm no student of the game but perhaps they were looking to try one or two things out yesterday, asking one or two to play a slightly different role etc. Can happen I guess and might not work out. Other than that, sure they said there will be one or more additions to come too.

Against Leicester and Derby we kept the ball on the ground and going back to when I played, we were coached by Town players and ex-professionals and after the physical work we had sessions of 1 touch and two touch seven a side. One touch means you control and pass in one movement so that is much easier if the ball is at your feet, not in the air. Yesterday, every time we tried to play over the top, the wind played tricks with the ball and we gave away possession. Possibly we reverted to this tactic because Oldham pressed and closed us down quickly. That being so, we needed to look for space and work a bit harder to get into that area. The team that have not got possession always have to work harder chasing the ball, so obviously when you have the ball, the need to be sure you keep it.

I implore you to say this to his face. what relevance is that to this debate ? I think you've gone on an extremely personal attack of a coach at the football club, the type of which you always slate others for doing. Remind me which manager was it who brought Jensen into the club if you dislike him so much? Also to mention you believe you could a better job yourself, then please tell him this.

Brian Jenson is now onto his fourth manager/head coach, at a point in time where all other backroom staff have been changed multiple times.
If Hurst and Cotterill, two well travelled and forthright men think he’s good enough, that’s good enough for me.

He’s young and coming back from a bad injury. But he has massive potential. It’s not fair he’s been written off already after a game and a half.

Jensen has coached many a class act at Town. He's a legend and we are lucky to have him.
We have loads of midfielders, yet we had no midfield against Oldham. Go figure.
Benning is wasted if he's not allowed to charge forward.
I don't understand how we can play so well against Leicester and Derby then play so poorly against Oldham. Consistency was what Hurst managed to get last time, no evidence as yet. Fingers crossed. But it doesnt look great for Stevenage.

It was a quiet game yesterday....the players could be heard.
Nsiala did a lot of shouting. Marquis was pretty angry at Savin's distribution a few times. Winchester and Benning were swearing a lot. Marquis and Savin did a lot of head shaking when they came off.
It's evident the game-plan didn't work yesterday. Why that is I have no idea

At 5.30pm next Saturday night, all the hard work begins in earnest.....the players have got to perform at 100% in that game, and everyone thereafter....if not, they will be dropped, and someone else will take there place... I'm sure the players are well aware of that,or they should be!!

Didn't Marosi have a dodgy start including a poor display when we lost 5-0 to Leeds in the cup? Wouldn't mind a similar story

I would suggest Town looked so good against the better teams because it was earlier in pre season (so more time on the ball), those teams were experimenting with different things or off the back of a hard training session they’d never do during the season proper, or because Town’s players started well and simply had the confidence.
Whereas yesterday, I’d assume both teams were doing near as damn it what they intend to play on opening day and that is a worry. Although, I am really hoping that’s not quite true, as when the starting line up came out and our exciting attacking midfielder from Villa was clearly shoved out wide, it already felt like a limitation on our most exciting player and a square peg in a round hole.
As for Feeney at left centre back, it was never going to be pretty. It never will be!
Hopefully the 11 will differ slightly come 5 30 on Saturday.

Might our lacklustre performance yesterday be a combination of several factors? As mentioned above, a desire to avoid injury and a few experimental tweaks with positions are two reasons. Added to this I would say that we would hardly give the inevitable scouts from Stevenage a clear picture of what they will face on Saturday.
Too much premature negativity - I remain optimistic, at least until I have seen how we shape up in half a dozen real matches.

I have concerns about his injury record, but he should not be written off, he needs time to rebuild his confidence, the goalkeepering coach has a big part in that, he needs game time. I will do the same for him as with all players let's see what they are like after ten to twelve games I really hope fans give him a fair chance and don't get on his back if he makes a few mistakes.

My point was a shaky start doesn't mean they are a bad keeper.

Any confirmation as to who Trialist B was? I heard someone near to me say that it was a midfielder who had played for Cheltenham.
