Can't wait for the new season. But in the meantime I am wondering if any of my more 'elderly' Town fans frequented the Music Hall in the 1970s. Anyone remember Camel, Gong, Bridget St John, Tir Na Nog, Tim Hardin or the Baker Gurvitz Army? Oh, and that bloke in a plastic tube...

I certainly attended the Saturday Nights with Pete Smith DJ’ing…. Only a few bands, Desmond Dekker and The Strawbs and Ben E or BB King………My mate arranged the tech concert with Free but not really my scene 😅
Slightly different subject I took my first wife on our first date to The Wrestling at The Music Hall. Both Big Daddy and Kendo Nagasaki were on the bill in different bouts. I ended up being pick up by my shirt (ripped) and pinned against the wall by BD. 😳

They literally got booed off the stage after 3 songs. Apparently they were a band that was put together by the record label, rather like boy bands are now a days Little bit of strange trivia, Gary Holtons ashes are buried in his family's plot in Welsh pool Cemetery

I only went there twice and never saw either but my friend seemed to come across them more than he'd have liked. My first ever gig was at Liverpool Stadium, to see Robin Trower supported by Mandalaband (I never heard of them again but, to my amazement, I've just discovered they still exist). Seem to remember we each gave the oldest looking amongst us 50p to get some cans of Long Life from the offy before the gig. We'd have been about 15 at the time. I also saw Van de Graaf Generator at the Stadium, probably a few weeks later. Can't say I particularly enjoyed it but I might give them another listen one day! I listened to a few Robin Trower tracks recently, after ignoring them for 45 years, and they were great - very Cream/Hendrix powerhouse trio.

Too old for the ‘70s, but I was a regular there in the ‘60s
The bands I remember were The Nashville Teens and The Tremeloes, both of whom had top 10 hits at the time. I remember them only because the band I was in supported them.
Sadly we didn’t support The Beatles who featured twice before they became world famous. Me and my mate had a chat with John Lennon about where they got their songs from.
If only I’d got autographs and photos…

Sadly a little too young for me as I started my gig going in 1981. Love a lot of the bands previously mentioned apart from the Beatles. But my mum saw them both (?) times they played Shrewsbury. Even managed to meet them and get autographs. The autographs disappeared years ago

Was a film shown before the JP set instead of a support band? Camel actually visited three times but I missed the last one as I had a maths o'level exam (retake) the next morning. As for HMK, did the lead singer have his eyes closed?

Happy days in the 70's. I remember Bill Nelson in the plastic tube. Widowmaker - deafeningly loud. String Driven Thing, Doctors of Madness and of course Camel. Not sure who was in charge of booking these acts but they were top notch for a small provincial venue.

Had quite a few decent bands in the 70s when Terry was running it. Think the Boomtown Rats were there about a week before they blasted into the charts.

It became known as the Town House which was going in the 80s. Had a disco on a Friday night which always turned into a fight night. Beer and broken glass for the ladies to do Oops Upside Your Head..... Terry Heath was the bloke who ran it, he later had a place in Shifnal.

Must admit when I arrived in Salop I was married, with a young son,a mortgage and a good job so my gigging days were over

Used to be a Northern Soul night on a Sunday too, randomly I met his wife through work about 15 years ago, she was living in Shifnal. For gainsparkshrew it was in Wellington facing what’s now the bus station behind New Street.

After it closed did the venue become a (ahem) gentlemens club for a few years?😳

Was called the Paradise Lost club and was (in)famous in the early 70s. I lived about 1/4 mile away from it (but was sadly still at school so never got to experience it).

I did Ah got it sussed now.The place I was thinking about was upstairs in The Parade, which was alongside what is now the bus station but originally was a car park. There was an archway in the middle of the building and a footpath through to New Street.
