We need to get Idowu and Mata gone. there're simply not good enough. Surprised about Dunkley and Pierre i don't rate Dunkley at all. With Feeney and Benning we could potentially keep most of are defense which have been poor all season. Have the defence been poor? Our tactics have invited constant pressure for the majority of the season. Our lack of goals have also put the defence under a lot more pressure. I am surprised about Dunkley, hopefully he has been offered a wage he deserved as he has been poor the 2nd half of the season. For me it's either him or Pierre as they are too similar.

Next season we will have Nurse and Benning in the squad. Both decent players. Maybe a more advanced role could be found for Benning. Nurse can also play CB which is another option.

If that’s been prepared and ready to go- which obviously means the players were aware then no wonder no one gave a **** today They were all aware on Thursday

Really disappointed that Bennett is not being retained. Expect Hurst is too, but retirement comes to all of us. If we had the money there would surely be a job of some sort with us offered? How do you know he has retired?

Unless Hurst has taken leave of his senses and decided not to offer some sort of terms to him then assume he must have decided to retire.
I expect we'll re-sign him for next season later, like we did this season

By offering Dunkley a new contract does that mean we can command a fee if someone else comes in for him? Or is that just under 25’s?

Yes, you're right and well done to Mr Hurst for getting the list out so promptly. Still, would have liked Bennett to be player/coach as he is a great example - I'd hope he'd have reflected reduced playing in wage demands; but who knows what else he can go off and do.

Wonder if there is an element with Marosi, Dunkley and Udoh to show willing to retain even if they know it's unlikely. Would be surprised if any more than 1 of them stayed. Pleased for Benning, much deserved. Can only assume Pierre is cheap as don't think he's a consistent enough league one centre back any more. Disappointed about Tunmise. Not surprised about the rest. Looking forward to seeing what the summer brings I think you're right with those first three. I suspect the offers to Marosi & Dunkley - given they are offers and we haven't just extended - have been done for that show of willing as you say. We know we aren't going to keep them, but it doesn't look as bad as it saying we've released them. I suspect with Udoh, we do want to keep him but what we can offer is far less than he'll be getting elsewhere, not just in League One but also League Two/National League.

I think offering Pierre is smart business. Considering how little football he played, he was thrown straight in & put in some solid performances. Defensively he is solid, wins his duals & a threat from set pieces. I was always expecting Hurst to offer him a deal in the summer as it was quite a big statement throwing Pierre in away at Northampton in his first game. Wages wise I can’t see Pierre costing us much & remember we are going to need 4 CB’s minimum in squad… I agree. Given his injury record and form after leaving us first time around, I can't imagine (as you say) he's commanding as much as he might've done a couple of years ago. He's a senior player too, which we may not have many of next year if we're trying to be cheaper. Also, he's a left sided centre back (same as Sraha). That's a role which is often hard to recruit, so if Pierre signs then we've got that position locked down.

I really hope we can convince Benning to stay. Nurse has missed two seasons of football now, so we will need to be very gentle in bedding him back into the side. Having the two of them compete for the left back spot will hopefully drive both on to higher standards, and allow us to rotate due to tiredness. Will also mean that we can switch formations more easily - Nurse can cover at left centre back in a back three, and Benning can play Wing Back.

Of the 'retained' I can see us trying to offload at least a couple.

Of the 'retained' I can see us trying to offload at least a couple. Hopefully Taylor Perry, I really don’t rate him & im not convinced Hurst does either- not even involved in squad today. Nobody is going to pay a fee so it would be a loan with majority of wages picked up

I don't get the Marosi love in. I do admit he's a great shot stopper but his distribution has been woeful. Get some cash in by selling and bring better all rounder.

He isn't under contract so we cant sell him. The love in is because he has been brilliant all season and rightly won awards for his efforts.

We have offered him a new contract Not triggered the crazy deal we could have done He can walk away if he wants Defenders are 10 a penny , we dragged an unfit out of shape Pierre out of the gutter and a couple of months later he was dunkley in disguise For a fraction of the cost If dunkly thinks he can do better I suggest he updates his cv and gets going quick

Bennett has appeared in 33 games this season with an average of 46 minutes per game
a third of games basically
multiply his wage by 3 and we dont get value for money

He’s still been more value than O’Brien and a far far better example to young players.

I was impressed by O Brien today - maybe he's just trying to put himself in the shop window but he was a step ahead. I'd consider him staying but he's likely on big money and wants to go back to London.
Benning by comparison is too slow going forward, he might be the most improved but that doesn't make him particularly great, he also won't suit playing wide in 3-4-3 system, but then again neither will Feeney.
That's it for Bowman, Bayliss and Sraha surely.

Only just seen the retained list was out as soon as I travelled away from the stadium,
Pierre the only real surprise for me, I'm guessing Sraha was extended? and Dunkley doesn't have an extension. Should be fine for defenders then.
A real shame about Bennett but the time is right, Price may well step into his role.

Bennett performed well at Charlton but I can’t remember many others. His legs were gone and Hurst would’ve released him. That’s why he’s retiring. I’m amazed anyone was keeping him, he’s been unable to command a regular place in this god awful team.
I like the retained list but wouldn’t have wasted time offering anything to Dunkley & Pierre surprises me but if he’s solid cover on a minimal wage it begins to make sense.

Maybe Pierre has been offered something in the expectation that Dunkley won't except his offer.
