But it does apply to teams further down the pyramid for who getting a reply at somewhere like Derby, or even us, is a big deal. Maybe, but nearly always not the case. If we drew Derby at home in round 1 would we sell out? No. If we drew that match, would Pride Park sell out for the replay? No. I'm guessing they mean a non-league club playing in rounds 1 & 2.

I'm well and truly showing my age when I remember that the FA cup final was the showcase event at the end of the season. That we had wall to wall coverage of the day on both BBC1 & ITV. But that's all gone. You only played at Wembley IF you got to the final, that too has gone. And now they can't even wait until the big boys have finished their season. Very sad indeed for an old timer like me. Not meaning to challenge the spirit of your post at all but at least all rounds will now be played at (or around) the weekend, instead of the midweek fifth round we've had lately. There'll also be no PL games played on 4th & 5th round, & QF Cup weekends. That'll make Fantasy League more straightforward! There'll also be no PL game on the Friday before and the Saturday of the Cup Final. Small improvements from what we've known recently, if only restoring something of what used to be taken as read.

I don't want us to be like the 'big six' and want us to recognise that the football pyramid is a unique and wonderful and is bigger than any club. Unfortunately it's being eroded away, grain by grain. I know things have been heading this way for years but genuinely gutted about this today. How can so many have to lose out for the benefit of so few.

Seeing plenty of people blaming individual managers such as Guardiola, Klopp, Frank who’ve disrespected the competition in the past. But that’s a red herring, the reality is it’s the greed of the chief execs and owners of the premier league clubs, coupled with the greed and cowardice of those in charge of the FA.
The same with UEFA who came out crying about how unfair the Super League was, whilst expanding their own tournaments and making them more super-league like.
There’s so much money in football that the everyone is blinded by greed. Morally corrupt but it’s the sad state of the sport. It’s happening in cricket too with the wealth of the Indians taking over every competition and getting to do what they want.

Not sure my distain for the PL could get anyworse but it has today. Bung the FA a few million £ for their slush fund and they rollover and agree to anything. Toothless bunch.
The best part of the FA Cup are the early rounds and I get to a few games but even by the 4Q it's difficult finding somewhere new to go anywhere in the south east. At least that part has been left alone for now.

I agree but it’s not like they’re not in control of them. If they win the tie, they wouldn’t have the hassle. The same managers would still say they wanted to the chance to force money spinning replays. For example when we came from behind against Liverpool, in all likelihood they would’ve beaten us in extra time that day. Hardly the same memory is it? Yeah just had a similar conversation with a work colleague and used that Liverpool game. The history book will show we got a famous draw against Liverpool and the players & supporters had the opportunity to be at a packed out Anfield. Had it gone to extra time then we would have probably lost as Liverpool brought on some of the big guns and then the history books would show a defeat (albeit after extra time). But I do take the point that whilst a replay against Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, etc. is going to appeal, if Colchester had got a equaliser against us, then most people from both clubs would see the relay as an inconvenience. The reality is lower league clubs/fans can be hypocrites when it comes to the cups, we moan about the attitude of the PL clubs towards them but we can treat them with disrespect. In the early rounds we expect lower ticket prices, suggest the squad is rotated, the management should prioritise league games and then normally crowds are down compared to league games. I'm as disappointed as the anyone with the way it's gone but I'm not sure the format of the cups should be based on the odd big team v little team match (and the even rarer time when it ends up a draw). Yep I agree with you as I myself would have seen a trip to Colchester as an inconvenience but hey, we should’ve beaten them the first time round. I’d also have gone anyway, just as I love going to random non league clubs and enjoy the break from the norm when we play one of them at home. I actually love those rare days where we go to somewhere like Gainsborough and there are cameras there for it and the club have ‘David vs Goliath’ type stuff flying about. That for me still feels special. Perhaps I’m the wrong type of supporter to comment as I agree 50% of people don’t seem bothered about the cup until we face someone half decent whereas I am. I think this is massively wrong and sad, and hope we follow suit and back up Tranmere’s statements. If the EFL could refuse entry to the prem teams into the football league trophy that would be a start, as those are the only games I don’t attend as a matter of principle. I’m even more glad now that I do avoid them.

I have steadfastly stuck to a B-Team boycott of that odious competition that has ruined the old Football League trophy
Is it time for a concerted effort to do the same in the FA Cup?
Sadly I doubt there’s any appetite considering the volume of appeasers supporting and attending games in the B-Team trophy. We can hardly moan if we continue to support it can we?

FA Cup replays will be scrapped from the first round onwards in the 2024-25 competition.
In its current format, the FA Cup has no replays from the fifth round onwards, but the FA says the move to eliminate them from an earlier stage has been made "in light of changes to the calendar driven by the expanded UEFA competitions". www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68844583 Don't see why the 1st & 2nd Round can't keep their replays? because the tv guys want to show the additional European games instead, and the fans want to stay at home and watch European games instead, replays will just become a loss making exercise further down the line there will be European games at the weekend, and will be shown live at 3pm on a Saturdays amonst many other times the premier league will put pressure to get the league reduced to 18 or even 16 clubs they wont enter the league cup the award system for money in the euro competition will be based on 6 previous years, so the likes of Villa next season could win the cup and make less than someone like Liverpool who didn't qualify buy hey , if we all stay in and watch the champions league instead of watching an under 23 premier side it will bring all that crumbling down

I hope our club (and hopefully many other lower league clubs) will join together to make their feelings known on this. I understand there are one or two on here from inside the club, and hope they will get our feelings on the matter at least discussed at the highest level within RW towers. Should lower league clubs go as far as boycotting the cuo next season in protest? I would be happy if we (and many other clubs) did.

That’s a class statement from Tranmere Rovers, but they have always been a fan focused club so we shouldn’t be too surprised that they are first out of the blocks. I hope that others- our club amongst them, make similar strongly worded public statements. I then hope that groundswell of opinion leads to massive direct action by all lower league clubs. So yes, a boycott of the competition if that’s what’s needed. History has shown us that only united , direct action can halt the bureaucrats ruthless pursuit of further riches. The super league protest’s worked, there’s no reason something similar shouldn’t work also

A most effective boycott would be sell-outs in rounds one and two, then disappearing from round three onwards. But you just know nobody will turnout for a home game against a Conference North side at home, but be counting their loyalty points for when Man City get drawn to come here… And that’s not exclusive to us.

Tranmere Rovers, Peterborough Utd and now Grimsby Town leading the way in strongly voicing their disgust about the FA's decision.
Can we expect our club to follow suit in expressing similar concerns?
I hope so.

How to kill off a competition - arrogant and utterly shameful!
Any joy or interest in the FA Cup has largely gone by the end of January now - no matter how many adverts the Beeb/Others put out to convince us that endless permutations of the top PL clubs playing each other constitutes ‘romance’.
Romance to me is the unexpected, the chance to go to places you have either never heard of / or only seen on a screen, for players to risk their reputations / or shine in that moment of glory, kids discovering their local town team. Scrapping replays reduces the possibilities of all this. We know it’s all about the money - but that’s a darn sight more important at the bottom.
And while the FA are re-acquainting themselves with all this, they could take VAR with them too - a referee and two assistants are the designated decision makers for on pitch matters from 1Q to Final.

The emergence of B Teams in our domestic game may not have a direct link to decisions like the scrapping of FA Cup replays, but it showed the Pl Clubs & authorities that football league clubs and some of its supporters will stomach anything they throw at them, particularly if you throw enough money at them. Football fans do have power but are not united, we moan about things changing for the worse but do nothing about them. Most football lower league fans complain about B Teams but still go to games under the guise of 'got to support the lads'. How about thinking of the bigger picture and realising you are letting the big boys walk all over you? For me the ironic thing is lower league fans have a sanctimonious view about themselves, seeing them as the 'proper' fans. But the only set of fans who have stepped up to force change were Premier League clubs who objected to the Super League.
