One thing again highlighted is that Hurst probably wasn't overly impressed with signings made under Taylor. None of these made the squad (may be wrong but not aware of any injuries): Mata, Kenneh, Idowu, Anderson So that means all of the loan signings from Summer made were either sent back or not in the squad. At this level, loans can be a huge determinant of a good season so really hope this is improved for next season. It's worth listening to Hurst's post-match interview. He admits he hasn't got what he'd really like in terms of back-up players, that some players were running on empty towards the end and that he would like us to be fitter. Obviously, different managers have different requirements but it sounded to me as an indirect criticism of the fitness and recruitment standards inherited from the previous regime. Unfortunately the head of recruitment is still with us, although I doubt he will be come August.

The problem wasn't Taylor's signings - that falls at the door of the Director of Football. The business he did over the summer was pretty poor, and the business he did in January was rubbish. He should have gone at the same time as Matt Taylor. With Paul Hurst back, we dont need a DoF, go back to having a Manager. Lesson for Roland - buy cheap, buy twice!

The signings were mostly crap but we also had an inexperienced head coach who didn’t have a clue how to get the most out of them. It really was the worst of all worlds and in time we’ll come to look back on that 6 months as one of the most inept and lacklustre times in our club’s modern history. I just hope we’re not looking back at it from league two, as much as my enthusiasm and passion has been reawakened, there’s no escaping the perilous position we’re currently in.

When you look at the recruitment this season, you can say it has been a disaster. 6 long term loans, none of them are now involved (4 sent back, the other 2 not even on the bench). We spent money on the 3 players from Ireland and only one has had any involvement recently, I know the amount spent on them won't be much but then we supposedly don't have much. The idea was signings we would be making would be long term ones to make us money, the only signing we've made which potentially could turn out to do that is Sraha . And ironically the recent success stories have been the complete opposite to that idea, a 30 year old reserve left back from Port Vale and a 30 year old former centre half released by Sutton.
If I was Roland, I'd be asking serious questions of Moore and the recruitment team

On the penalty, I can actually see what Perry was trying to do. It wasn't like the player was on the edge of the area going nowhere, he was a few yards from goal and the angle of the player's body liked like he was probably going to cross it back in, so Perry probably tried to block it.
It does look rash but if he hadn't made an attempt to challenge him and the bloke had hooked it back in then people qwould be questioning why he didn't make a challenge

Granted I'm not 100% up on who is making the decisions and to what degree (not sure it was mentioned in the supporters meetings) but shouldn't we include Moore in that too? So early days yet recruitment wise but looking to that, not exactly the most auspicious start to things under the new DOF. I meant more that these were the signings made while Taylor was boss, not that he is to blame for them. One presumes more blame is to Moore and Ware for identifying that they believed they would work at this level. Will be interesting to see how it works in the summer, and one hopes some better signings and retaining as many of the first team quality the squad has at the moment.

Benning was shocking up until Christmas but I’d say he was starting to show this form (and ridiculously good fitness levels) under Taylor just before his departure. He was brilliant against Wrexham for example but MT thought otherwise and him off, having not taken him off that early in many of his earlier season stinkers. One of the stranger decisions MT made! He’s going to become a bit of an unlikely ‘hero’ if he hasn’t already and I think he’ll find himself on the scoresheet before long with the one twos Hurst has him playing coming inside his opposite full back towards the box. Lots of things have improved dramatically even if the results don’t quite suggest so points wise, maybe. Yeah Benning has been one of the best players over the last 2 months or so, and his combo down the left with Shipley (and Bayliss who drifts into that space) also has developed well. If they can keep them both and add Nurse into the mix, that side is a definite strength. Could do with something similar on the other side.

Things have not started well for sure but I guess we ought to give Moore the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps those players were brought into the club with a specific formation in mind and Hurst just sees others as a better fit for 4-4-2. Maybe anyhow. Agree though, it'll be interesting to see how it works once we start preparing for next season...👍

There is no saying a player will come back as good after 1 ACL injury let alone 2. You just have to hope and pray Nurse gets over the last 2 years and gets back to the player he was, but I say there is a good chance he wont.

Benning is having a good spell but if it's a choice between a fit Nurse or Benning then I'd pick Nurse every time. And I suspect the club think the same, partly that being driven by the potential for him to make some money for the club.

Judged on last couple of months Benning is certainly worth another year. No way you can rely on Nurse being sole left back, so need a back up/someone to compete against him for the role. Benning has played further forward too, either off the bench or doubling up to give a more defensive formation. He won't be on lots of money and nor I imagine will Nurse be, so makes sense to have them both I think

I’d be offering Benning a deal right now. He’s done really well.

Nurse, Benning, is the most improved player of the last couple of months I'm unsure he's a Hurst kind of full back though.
