Sorry Tarporley for late reply but I have been out with friends. My comment regards. The club is asking for help and the fans are saying 'what why me?' Nothing too in depth

I do get it, I do. I’m just not sure we should be asking fans for free labour whilst paying 20+ players an average of £2-3k per week.
Only in football would someone pay £350+ for a season ticket and then also give them their skills for free.
Good idea and I’m sure worthwhile but could just never be me, that’s all.
Not unless the club was on the verge of extinction.

Not unless the club was on the verge of extinction. I think it's because some fans actually love the club and will happily donate their time or money to them, it's not compulsory I've done it a few times , it's quite satisfying when you turn up at games and know you did this and that and hope It helps Even if it's means those 20+ players are now on £3-4k a week and we might have a better chance on the pitch than without the help You get the drift It will only get worse , the gap between the rich and the poor is growing by the season

Got a funny feeling the reactions are bit like the reaction would have been if there were no transfers in and MT was still head coach.
If a new owner was asking, rather than someone on Roland's staff, would the reaction be different?

"...in one of many cost-saving measures the club are implementing, we are actively looking to build a group of supporters who are willing to help the club as volunteers..." Were the cost-saving measures outlined by the club at the recent SP? It was mentioned not sure if it was in meeting or afterwards. Believe were no longer employing cleaning company for the stadium.

The Isle of Mann TT require in excess of 600 marshalls each day for two weeks. All volunteers and all have to pay for their own ferry crossing and accommodation for the two weeks. We do it for the love of our sport. The riders know that without us marshalls there would be no racing and do indeed respect us accordingly. If I lived closer to the meadow I would willingly volunteer my time to help the club I have followed/supported for longer years than I care to mention

If a new owner was asking, rather than someone on Roland's staff, would the reaction be different? Perhaps there is an element of that, it's human nature that a new person/organisation are going to have a honeymoon period and don't get the same reaction as someone who has been there for a long time and seen to be responsible for the problems. Although if new owners came in and said they needed the fans to give up their time to save some money for the club, then I'm pretty sure there would be some serious questions raised about them as suitable owners if they had to resort to that. I guess my main issue is once again how the club have communicated this. This should have been the main subject at the fans parliament as you are asking fans to give up their time but also sounds serious alarm bells if the club have to resort to this. Instead chucking out an article asking for names just strikes me as lets get volunteers but without any questions being thrown at us

I have no idea how much it costs to clean the stadium, but if they think I’m getting on my hands and knees and cleaning the toilets after a match day so they can save a few quid, they’ve got another thing coming! Seriously if people want to volunteer then good on them, but if the club are purely looking at it as a cost saving measure they’re going after the wrong things in my opinion. The amount it’ll save in comparison to our total outgoings will be absolutely minuscule.

Shrewsbury Town Football Club are a professional business who as a cost-cutting exercise are asking fans to do day to day jobs, rather than pay companies to do it.

I should add, if I thought the club was at risk then I would step up and be willing to give up my time to ensure they survived. At the moment, I have no idea on the position of the club, on the one hand Roland is spending his own money & implementing cost cutting measures, on the other hand Moore is telling us that the budget is sustainable and we are on our third manager in less than 12 months and could afford to bring in a variety of personnel during that time.

Proud. Are you saying the volunteers at all formula 1 races,BSB races,MUFC and the rest of football, Rugby, Hockey etc are not volunteering at professional run clubs and events. Crikey our club is a community based club with a community that doesn't want to give back

I think it's the mixed messages, one minute we're peasants and they're got specialists to do things, next minute we're good enough, then there'll be specialists again.

Town do release some odd press releases sometimes where the intention is sound but deliveries off a whole series of other questions Volunteering with either a charity or business is no bad thing, when based on a sound volunteer policy where both the volunteer and charity/business have clear responsibilities. Recruiting volunteers should be given similar status to staff recruitment Things like insurance for volunteers, equipment and clothing (if needed), safeguarding checks, terms of volunteering and any benefits or rewards the volunteer gets all need to be set out right at the start. Asking volunteers about their skills and knowledge is also needed too As I said earlier in the thread it’s something the Community Trust do very well already and think they would be better leading on this, and volunteers would get more out of the process - such as younger people getting experience in admin, stewarding etc

Or just attend for a small number of days where they do of course give up their time, but get the benefit of being up close & personal to the action? As for us being a community club, there are plenty of people in the community who give back and have done so for years. I've known plenty of people who have and can't believe the level of commitment these people have provided, to the extent I have felt the club have taken advantage of them.

It's like our statements on certain things, and the chairman's statement after Cotterill, the delivery and content was absolutely horrific. Hopefully the CEO gets more hands on with the media team and they work on the statements coming out.

Jamo if you consider 15 hour days holidays I will give you that. By the way a crossing to the island is £488. That's one bike with pillion. Our accommodation in excess of a grand . Tent pitches from £15 per night with no facilities. This volunteering is fun and that's why we do it

Just a reminder that the club are not asking for any obligation. Even if its just 10mins, thats better than zero. There is no obligation to be helping out every weekend like it being suggested here...

Just one thing to add. I agree the handling of this issue is awful but the principle is good. So many people are purely takers.

Not sure anyone that pays into the club, be it tickets, merchandise, hospitality etc could be called a taker just because they aren’t volunteering. If your supermarket of choice sacked their morning cleaners and asked loyal customers to come in to sweep up every morning to keep their costs down would you consider it?

Think we will see a few changes for the better next season under the new CEO. He is young, very keen and will bring new ideas from his experience with a bigger club. He has been very impressive in his short time with us to date.

That's a great question Martin. Can any experience be taken without some input? I totally respect your views I have no argument with you or any of the other members. I have my own views which may or may not differ

Two thoughts.
Firstly, it's a good idea for those who live locally, love the club, want to give back etc.
Secondly, christ we must be in a lot worse trouble than I'd have ever thought if we're pleading with fans to litter pick because we can't afford to pay the cleaning staff.
