See we are back to the “club needs you” phase of things again. Maybe had the club reacted better to past offers of help and actually replied to them they might get more offers this time round
It’s constant change with the club - one minute it’s commercial operation and they have professionals to make all the decisions. Then in tough times it’s begging bowl time asking the fans to help with basic tasks

I think it all has to do with who is running club day to day and coming in with new ideas. I wonder if they had a similar scheme at Sheffield Wednesday. I do know that if I were a lot younger and still living in Shropshire I would be tempted to join in.

Looks like Roland is pleading poverty again.
Interesting to see they’ve walked back from the line that our financial future is at risk in 6 months to us now being sustainable again. I’ve not seen any changes bar Steve being kicked out the door.

I remember going on the pitch in an FA Cup game in the conference season at half time with forks because they had asked for help.
I was best man on a stag do so I nominated the groom to help too.
He was dressed in a yellow tank top and one of those silly Scottish wigs and got pelters from the crowd.

There's a whole generation of fans who have been turned off helping. A new chap coming in and wanting to build the volunteer base has a huge chasm of goodwill to make up because many of us have been there and done that and we know how it ends. If it's a community agency then treat us like members and if it's a business then treat us like customers.

Yes - I’ve offered many times over the years but always got the impression that volunteers weren’t wanted in case they got to know too much about the inner workings. Hopefully Liam recognises that there are fans who genuinely want to help out .

The club are looking for fans to do jobs around the ground, that takes me back to the 90's. Always a good reminder as to just how much the club has grown under Roland
If the finances are in a bad state then this of course makes sense. But once again my issue with this is mixed messaging. Yesterday Moore was in the Star saying the budget is sustainable, today the club are talking about cost cutting measures and asking fans to donate their time. Just what is the plan? And how long are these cost cutting measures going to be in place for?
If things are so bad that the club are having to ask its customers to donate their time to do jobs around the ground then I'd personally expect to see a personal plea from the people running the club, not a faceless message on the website. Although, when I say expect, I of course don't expect anything like that to happen.

Worded much better than my initial response (note to self don’t post whilst grumpy before tea) Hopefully the volunteers will be backed up by a volunteer policy and suitable insurances support etc. It’s arguable something that would site better with the Community Trust who do good work with volunteers and help support people back into employment and learn new skills The club request sounds more like a plea to do jobs on the cheap that should really be part of the club running costs. McDonald’s at Meole don’t ask customers to paint the building not sure a club with over £4 million turnover should be either

I’ll volunteer to help with the pricing structures for next season if that would help.

"...in one of many cost-saving measures the club are implementing, we are actively looking to build a group of supporters who are willing to help the club as volunteers..."
Were the cost-saving measures outlined by the club at the recent SP?

"your club needs you" ( pointy finger).
Very Kitcheneresque.
Things didn't end too well for him either 🚢⬇️

I think the new CEO said when he came in that he wanted to involve the fans and the community more. Isn’t this just one way of doing so?

Although there will possibly be a range of volunteer roles, an appeal for help with maintenance feels uncomfortably rinky-dink – and I'm someone who has not previously had their offer of help snubbed.

This thread also stinks of people who forever tow the club line, almost as if they were employees and contractually obliged to do so.
Some decent and relevant comments to what is, to say the least, a controversial statement from the club.

Were the cost-saving measures outlined by the club at the recent SP? That's a good point. The article says "as discussed on the night", I wasn't there but haven't seen anything from anyone there who mentioned any cost cutting measures (including this). Is anyone able to expand on what was discussed?

To be constructive I’d suggest the club involved this organisation in the volunteer process and uses their templates for volunteer recruitment. I’ve written volunteer policies myself and this is a great starting point www.ncvo.org.uk/get-involved/volunteering/Much like a job description it’s important to define the roles the club wants volunteers to undertake and what the terms of volunteering are to make sure it’s clear where responsibilities lie The roles can also be advertised through other volunteer networks to raise interest with none football fans interested in getting new skills

I don't tow the line at all , I've probably got more done to suit us fans from moaning than you'll ever do , but I'm quite happy to moan at the moaners too if I think they are moaning for the sake of it
