Maybe, just maybe the financial issues are not down to poor leadership!

This is it in a publically limited company a Chairman overseeing that level of loss and no scruitiny of the finacial transactions of the company would be out on their ear by the Shareholders. In our case we're lucky that the Chairman has deep pockets and was able to cover the losses the company made, such lack of leadership from the Chairman and also other board members is a real derelicton of their basic duties. I see you ignored my questions. You act like the club losing money is not the norm in football. Below is an article about football league finances, might be worth having a look. focuses mainly on the championship but I imagine it is worse in leagues 1 and 2 if you take into account the size of the clubs. www2.deloitte.com/uk/en/pages/sports-business-group/articles/annual-review-of-football-finance-football-league-clubs.htmlChampionship clubs’ losses Operating losses reported by Championship clubs decreased by 10% to £361m in 2021/22, an average loss of £15m per club. The improved financial performance is attributed to the changing club mix, accounting for a £89m decrease in operating loss. Clubs that participated in the Championship in both 2020/21 and 2021/22 reported an increase of 17% in operating losses (£322m), led by Cardiff City and AFC Bournemouth who reported an increase of £28m and £25m respectively, primarily due to the reduction in parachute payments received by both clubs. The pre-tax loss reported by Championship clubs in 2021/22 was £283m, a decrease of £9m on 2020/21. However, this loss would have been significantly higher without Stoke City and Coventry City, who recognised profit from loan write-offs of £120m and £29m respectively. Writing-off loans from owners highlights a degree of financial commitment from the club owners, however, the reliance on such loans implies an inability to cover the expenses through club generated revenue. Excluding these two clubs, the pre-tax loss that competed in the Championship in each year increased 66% to £406m (2020/21: £245m). As Championship clubs emerge from the pandemic, and a number of club owners continue to invest significantly to subsidise club operations, a continuous spotlight on the financial sustainability of clubs remains a necessity to ensure their long-term future. In recognition of this, the EFL has in place a full-time team responsible for reviewing the position of its clubs in a continuous manner. Apologies didn't see your previous comment. I think in answer I'm more concerned about the circumstance of the Clubs finances, rather than football in general, but take your point that overall football clubs loose a lot of cash. What concerns me is how Salop seemed to loose so much so quickly - having previously been run on such a tight ship - what on earth happened in 22/23? Prior to 2020 and Covid, the club was going along on small operating losses of £200,000 or so a year, with the odd small profit when we had a salelabe player or good cup run, which as not perfect but manageable with the cash asset the club had in the bank. Then Covid hit and the big loss of over a million occured in 20/21 but was stabalised back at around £200,000 loss in 21/22 and still a healthy cash balance of £1.6 million in the accounts. Then within a few months is appears there is no cash left in the company, and the Chairman is having to did deep personally to keep the club aflot. I am just at a loss to see how things could have got so out of control so quickly? We had a decent squad but certainly didn't appear to be splashing the cash. And in total fairness to the Chairman he ran a tight ship for so long for things to go so pear shaped in one season just seems really odd. Maybe key financial decisions were hidden from the board? or actual fraud place. Were commitments made in commercial contracts that went wrong? Or maybe the inflationary pressures of energy costs? The may well be mitigating circumstances we are not aware of and not privy too, but ultimately the financial decisions and scrutiny of finances reast with the board of the company and particularly the Chairman.

I'm fuming to be honest, after all the "new era" for the club moving to the new ground we're now back at the stage of the Chairman having to bail the club out out and and no cash left in the bank. 1.6 million cash gone in 12 months - thats a loss of £130,000 a month! How did it get so out of hand? maybe our chairman believed in SC like 99.9% of our fans did, did you ? oh yes, you were the guy who was leading the pack in demanding RW a back seat re cotterill, some of our fans were still singing his name last saturday im so glad I NEVER did I've long since stopped attending matches regularly well before Cotterill ever came to the club, and my one experience of him at a community event was not at all good, so no I've got no loyalty or liking for Cotterill. I do feel sorry for the Chairman if he's been led up the garden path by Cotterill and Caldwell, as it can't be nice to put trust in someone and then have them break that trust so significantly (as would appear to have happened here) especially when he seems to have head hunted both to the roles at the club. But that doesn't take away from the fact that as board members and chairman they are the ones ultimately responsible for the company finances, and should have to take responsibility if the accounts and cash flow has taken a battering. Recovering from that is going to be a long and hard process - as we have already seen this season. I hope the Chairman has the will and energy to see it turn round as we do owe him a lot, and having the later years of his time as Chairman in financial struggles isn't nice for him.

I think we all feel like that. It does not make sense why we lost so much money that we needed bank rolling by RW to stay afloat. We will probably never find out as the information could put off potential buyers. I am sure that RW has regrets about what has caused this situation, hindsight is a wonderful thing. This article is very unsettling for fans as we have gone from a club with healthy finances with manageable losses to then be told in the summer that things are bad but when we get the rescue payment from the premier league all will be well again to now be told that we was that skint that RW has had to put his hand in his pocket. Fans deserve more transparency than this as it is deeply concerning and without more information people will make their own assumptions which isn't healthy for anyone.

Everyone wants the club to thrive and prosper on and off the field but to do so it needs to demonstrate responsible and reactive leadership. We have neither.

Our record on the day SC walked through the door the table said :- Shrewsbury Town P 13 W 1 D 6 L 6 Pts 9 Under SC. P 13 W7 D 4 L2 Pts 25 IF we could maintain that form, nearly 2 points per game over the next 20 games,, our points should be in the low 70s. I think we would all have been gobsmacked at that thought in late November. Quite staggering turnaround, fantastic to see. I think we can put both those two lines of statistics down to The C effect. Covid for keeping Ricketts in a job at least 9 months longer than everyone (well nearly everyone) could see that he was hopelessly equipped for. And Cotterill, for recognising the talent he had available and implementing tactics and formations that got the best out of them, and then adding to them. Even with his short tenure here it is clear that we owe Cotterill big time.

It's interesting, but my opinion is that he only has himself to blame. We haven't maximised our move to the new ground and continue not to do so. No mention of whether it's good will, or in the form of loans? Hopefully the rumoured interest is serious and a sale can be concluded ASAP so we can finally lift the anchor off S.T.F.C I suspect that the monies introduced will have been met with equivalent increase in shares as he did for the training ground so he should recoup it on any disposal 🤔 Perhaps other people would put money in on the same terms?

There are far too many unknowns even following the welcome if overdue statement , to say very much about the current situation except to say that in the end the chairman and the club will be judged by supporters, on what happens on the field. Hopefully this afternoon we get a good result

I find it quite surprising that - apart from the resident club apologist who is contracted to always tow the party line, that others appear so gullible! Fancy this news being announced - albeit it ‘very reluctantly 🙁’ (yeah right) just after the first meeting with supporters groups in years. Who’d have thought? If the chairman is to be believed then any such scenario is entirely of his own making, through lack of diligence, scrutiny and most of all the almost criminal neglect of making the most of the greatest opportunity this club ever had. Spot on Mr Jamo. The ‘reluctance’ to let it be known……perfectly timed just before a big derby game. A large crowd that just might turn on the Chairman if we suffer a hefty defeat? Better to get your defence in early and deflect the blame back onto Messrs Moore and Taylor. Roly stated in the summer very clearly that we had financial problems and clearly pointed the finger at the Manager and chief executive shortly after the ey were shown the door - but with little detail being given as how they had contributed to our financial problems. Nearly six months later we are still in the dark about what happened. As we all know, Roly runs the club like a Dictator, and knows exactly what is going on. This makes it all the more surprising that we now have financial difficulties. The Chairman senses an ‘Askey’ moment coming down the track, only this time he fears the Chairman will be getting the obscene chants this time and not the manager! In my view this release of information is carefully crafted by the owner. How do I know this, obviously Albert Stroller told me….

Sorry to keep going back to it but does anyone know exactly how much Premier League ‘Covid’ funding there will be?
I really do suspect this payment will take us completely out of ‘trouble’ and Roland will have his money back before getting another £10m for selling up.
Also I’d suggest if the eventual new owners come in and preside over their manager and CEO losing us unsustainable amounts of money, there’d not be a single poster on this forum coming up with excuses for it? We’d all be dead worried.
Roland has done great things for this club, it sounds like he still is/trying to but this is uncharacteristic and it would be foolish not to question how he’s suddenly lost control to this extent, if there is indeed anything to worry about at all given some millions may come our way from that grant and all will be rosy again.

I've slept on this and I'm still quite angry, it's ridiculous. The amount of people duped by this is quite astonishing.
If some foreigner put a couple of hundred thousand into a club, had a free ride off it for three decades, put loads of shares in his name and profited to the tune of eight figures everyone would be up in arms, but it's all ok because he's from castlefields?
Chairman puts own money into club? The supposed massive town fan who's had a free ride for three decades puts a few quid in? Stop the ****ing press, what an absolutely crazy thought that is! I'd bet my b******s 10x over it's a loan, so essentially he's not doing anything.
It might just be me but I think we're such a wishy washy fan base; we're far too tolerant at times.

During the summer I've always said that all the people with power/influence have to be held responsible for the position we find ourselves in so thats the manager, CEO and chairman, the latest news doesn't change my opinion on that.
We obviously don't know the facts but it appears Cotterill has made some very dodgy decisions which have cost the club thousands (and possibly benefitted him) so he has to be held responsible for that. Caldwell could arguably be seen an innocent man if decisions went over his head but I'd argue as CEO he is responsible for not trying to sort the mess out. He could have either said to Roland I'll walk if you back Cotterill or could have tried to make the best of a bad situation (like the new CEO is doing). Instead it appears he went off in a sulk, cut off ties with people but continued to pick up a wage.
As for Roland, some might argue he got conned by Cotterill, however this is an experienced businessman and someone who has been involved in football for a long time, he has to shoulder some of the responsibility. I know people will say he is hurting and I don't dispute that, no doubt that will partly because he cares about the club. But equally it will because he's embarrassed and his pride has taken a dent. Perhaps the money he has been paid was simply because he cares, but perhaps it could be because of a sense of duty as he was partially responsible for the mess we find ourselves in.
The other thing I'd point out and I know this is very cynical, but we talk about Roland doing the club/ the fans a favour by supporting the club financially, but let's not pretend that it's not to his advantage. He owns a lot of shares and wants to sell the club, if we are club who are struggling financially and can't afford to pay wages then that isn't a good look and the value of the club drops. And if we were to go the way of Bury (as some suggest) then his shares will become worthless and he misses out on millions. Im not going to state that it was his primary motivation but it's human nature, if you know you stand to make £5million but its at risk unless you pay in £100,000 then you'd pay the £100,000 (those figures are completely made up just to illustrate a point before anyone challenges them).

Really hoping as one of the few posters on the board making reasoned, balanced posts with some level of knowledge behind them, you get an apology for being slandered with the usual defensive nonsense of being a massive Cotterill fanboy who is so blind they cannot see etc. Won't happen now, obviously. I know how you feel about cotterill, I used to love Jimmy Saville, how could I be so wrong about someone We've got a poster in Matt making well-written and articulate posts, with a level of knowledge behind them, who actually also dislikes Cotterill - someone in agreement with you, great! And you defensively windmill in, try to bully him out with a load of speculative (and as it turns out, quelle surprise, wrong) takes on what his opinions are because it didn't quite chime in with your relentlessly pro-club agenda. Reminded me of when you slagged off Ian's articles cos he wasn't quite positive enough in defeat one week. I simply asked if you'd be apologising to Matt for this misinterpretation, at no point mentioning anything about Cotterill, and I get some frankly bizarre Saville comparison in response. All very strange. Still, another post on the ledger. Enjoy the game.

Let’s be honest, any fan who let the club keep money during the curtailed 19/20 season, and then bought a ST during the 20/21 season, deserves far more adulation than a Chairman who has apparently let things spiral, then has to use his own funds to sort it
Absolutely negligent - and you could argue his negligence has thrown away said fans give aways

Enjoy the game. unlike you I treat everyone the same on here and judge each post by its on merit and give a honest opinion , on you other hand you have a massive grudge my way and your posts reflect that( I'll quote a few dozen if you like ? ) , have a nice day

The obvious answer to the question "How did the club lose £130,000 per month?" is that it didn't. We're just going to have to wait for the accounts.
If it turns out that the club fared no better than when there was no paying customers coming through the turnstiles during COVID then the board of directors will need to resign.

We're just going to have to wait for the accounts. There's less leeway for the club to spin than in a meeting with fans.

Not so sure we’ve currently got Roland out , Moore out, Taylor out, not going to pay, plenty of moaning and suspicion…. I’m not a Roland fan but no one else’s putting their hand in their pocket when needed so am prepared to give the benefit of doubt seeing as the club is for sale, what else should fans do? Drive him out till he says stuff it or just sit at home behind a key board and get angry? Those most angry about Roland are repeating what they’ve thought for 15 + years. Making the club feel toxic and potentially affecting the teams performance. With everything else going on we need to support the team and wait to see where we are at the end of the season unless there’s a better idea for where we are right now?

Being the Chairman of a football club is the sporting equivalent of being the Prime Minister wherein a) You will never be thanked for anything you achieve. b) You will always be criticised when things go wrong even if it's not your fault and not forgetting of course the classic c) Everyone can do the job better than the person actually doing it.
