If we had Thorpe and Nurse(or Shipley), who knows how much better we would look playing 3-5-2? The fact remains, if Bennett is now up to speed and Fleming is any good, then we may be able to stick to the preferred formation and begin to pick up points whilst waiting for the first choice players to return from injury. Long term this might be better than trying something completely different. Preferred formation of who, MM or MT? From the outside, I think there's a conflict of styles. MM has hardly left a legacy at Cheltenham, seven games in and they haven't scored a single goal yet.

what was wrong with the formation yesterday ?
we shipped a goal that shouldn't have been given, we shipped another chasing the game
the only thing wrong with yesterday was we couldn't finish the chances we created, mainly because Mata was awful, he's the player everyone was demanding started
I love it how the fans are always great in hindsight
it might have helped had we started with Udoh in midfield yesterday instead of Perry just saying

it might have helped had we started with Udoh in midfield yesterday instead of Perry just saying I think there's a lot merit in Udoh playing deeper, you're right there in my opinion; but not as an outright midfielder. I'd play him in the 10 of a 4-2-3-1, a bit like Bellingham dis for England against Scotland. That said, you have to rely on the man up top and the wide men banging in goals as well.

Looked a great finish to me, wish we could manage something like that. Should never have allowed the cross to come over is more like it, Benning was poor on that though he had looked ok before it.

The only telling thing from that photo is how deserted the East Stand is, both posh seats and OAP seats
People are already voting with their feet. Going to be painful for a while I feel

I remember last season, (ok lets forget the last 10 games), here we are 11th game from the end town on a terrific run, play offs getting mentioned here and there what were fans voting with then ?

Not sure why you have singled out Mata who I thought put himself about well and linked up well with Udoh. Udoh had a very poor game by his standard, several times he turns his man but didn't drive with the ball or thread it through like he normally would, on a normal day he is driving with the ball and slotting it home yet yesterday he dived trying to get a soft pen. I don't begrudge him a bad game as he has been consistently decent all season but I hope he is back to his best next Saturday.

Sooner or later, it’s virtually certain we will get relegated. There’s two ways out of League One, 3 clubs get promoted and 4 relegated, and considering that we usually have a budget below average for League One clubs, we have done very well to be playing our 9th (is it?) consecutive season in League one, and to keep avoiding the bottom four. It’s not fun to have to got through every season, but it’s life.
A few seasons in League 2 might allow the club to regroup and rebuild and might do us and the supporters some good, winning more than we lose. Danger is, however, you never know if we could be the next Scunny, Oldham, Southend or Rochdale and have a couple of consecutive relegations.

No one around us (behind the dug outs) appealed for it, and no one else on here seemed to have claimed for it either. Maybe we are just getting used to crap defending, it certainly was for the bloke to have so much room to get the cross in. Maybe it was the general feeling of "here we go again".

We've got to find a way of getting sobowale in the team, preferably further up the pitch in midfield, and using his pace and strength,to get us up the pitch a bit quicker, he can't be any worse than what we've got at the moment.taylor hasn't got a lot to lose by trying him there imho

Im fairly fairweather these days. Go mainly because my son enjoys it althought Cotts put a couple of teams who it was easy to get behind. Saturday was a perfect opportunity for me to go. But being blunt, the pain in the arse to get there (shame about the golf course/gym parking being monitored now), the £24 for me to get in, and the rotten football and atmosphere put me off.
So went to see Newtown V Barry Town in the Welsh Prem instead. Parked for free outside, had a good pint in the clubhouse pre match, boy had excellent chips for £2, and a perfectly watchable game of football.
Ill do Derby.

No mention at all about offside. However he had a very similar view to me, who didnt pick it up either. Guess if the players had thought it was offside there would have been more moans to the ref.

Watching non league has lots of benefits over FL games these days. Football like it used to be, rock up, park somewhere close by for free, no having to buy tickets in advance for half empty stadiums, affordable day out. Sure there are more advantages that have slipped my mind.

I’m quite sure they simplified that aspect of the offside law a few years ago and in that respect the Bristol Rovers goal would be fine. Clutching at straws sadly, beaten fair and square.

Clutching at straws sadly, beaten fair and square. apart from the fact the guy who received the ball may have also been offside, I think he is offside in the image I used photoshop to add the perspective grid to the shot the real issue is whether or not that goal should have stood it was coming and knocked the stuffing out of us winchester in the middle made a massive difference, and as soon as he went off we crumbled I will actually own up to thinking we were shot at half time, I said to my mate, we will run out of steam 15 mins in, leak a silly goal and then another chasing the game , I placed a couple of bets on Bristol to win, just them winning was a given and would cover my bet, but I also had them to win by 2+ goals, paid for my saturday night out, and I've just ordered a bottle of Sassenach Blended Scotch Whisky to sip next week when I am on annual leave , I didn't want us to lose, I just out an insurance that was guaranteed to pay out , I think I'm going town 3 Brighton 0 this week

The highlights certainly suggest an element of offside in the 1st goal.
Watch it here if you want to (bit painful though)

I suspect I'll be in a similar place in a few seasons, well not the Welsh football though I've been a season ticket holder for about 20 years and this season was the first time I seriously considered not renewing, that was partly driven by the increase in cost but the last few years have been so difficult to watch. We clearly don't follow Shrewsbury for success and the main thing has always been the social aspect, the group I go with has always fluctuated depending the nature of the game but there has normally been 4 of us as a minimum, on Saturday it was just me and another mate in our row. When I speak to people they all say the same, it's just so dull to watch. My takeaway from Saturday was not feeling gutted at losing but feeling annoyed that I'd spent a few hours on a Saturday afternoon watching that. The days of football dictating my life have long gone, I missed Burton, I'm away for Charlton and I've just booked up something which means I'll miss a home game in November. Therefore the decision to renew my season ticket isn't looking a particularly sensible one.
