They've never really gone away, but the bad ones now seem to be back with a vengeance after the recent rains.
It's not helped by the fact that once it gets dark, it's very difficult to spot them in time.
There are a couple of shocking examples at Whittington and on the Ellesmere to Overton Road. Both very deep and right in the middle of the road.
And yet it's virtually impossible to sue the Council for any damage caused.

Surprised speed limits haven't been lowered, along with claims that "speed bumps" have been installed.

The road between the Co-op and Churncote Island ( the Welshpool Road) is an absolute delight . Of what fun it is manoeuvring between deep ruts in the road and huge pot holes forcing you to veer onto the wrong side of the road . Double delight , the vehicles on the opposite side of the road are forced to do likewise so it’s a toss up who chickens out first . The area just before the Gains Park turn is particularly enjoyable , I swear I’ve lost fillings because of this stretch . Of course the Council will not spend a penny on this road until the two housing developments between Shepherds Lane and Calcott Lane are complete. This may take some time because I am reliably informed work on these sites are at a standstill , no one buying at present because mortgages are difficult to obtain and/ or people cannot afford a large depososit . There are plans for another housing development on the land between Gains Park and Churncote Island so I cannot see much pot hole work being undertaken for some time yet . Whose the new “ pot hole “ king on the Council these days as the old one was booted off because he was so useless . I would suggest whoever is in post isn’t much better . .I would be pleased to hear of any other disastrous pot hole infected roads in the County . Maybe we could compile a list . Anyhow , don’t expect much action , the Council is, no doubt , keeping hold of every available penny to put toward the construction of the NWRelief Road which is forecast to be so over budget we will all be paying for it for countless years to come . I do hope , when it is built it doesn’t suffer pot holes otherwise we are all doubly f.cked.

I was in southern Italy recently and I can tell you that the potholes on many urban roads are off the scale.
They make ours look like the surface of an FI race track.

Very sadly last weekend in Lancashire an 84 year old cyclist crashed and died after hitting a huge pothole on one of the roads I think in the Garstang area.
Although 84 he was still very fit, went out with other old boy cyclists several times per week so was well used to avoiding the worst the council leave in the roads to 'discover'.
Although it wont bring him back i do hope the the local council end up with a huge bill over this..... (and I've no doubt the hole was filled in very quickly after the incident).

I used to cycle to school in Shropshire, avoiding an artic filled main road. I walked that area recently, I woudn't dare ride a bike down that pothole ravaged road now.
Also a repair, barely six months old, breaking up again.

Situation seems better in Shrewsbury than in a while for me. A few of the main roads have been done in 2022 which has helped
Still plenty that need sorting though

Hopefully not speaking too soon, but they seem to have done a decent job in my area using the new equipment which doesn't just fill in the holes but repairs whole strips. In contrast, I drove through Clun in the Summer and the roads there were the worst I have seen (maybe they have been repaired by now).

When they were using Preston Street for the construction traffic at the Lily Hay development the potholes were awful and kept opening up after being repaired - as soon as they switched the construction traffic to using London Rd the potholes in Preston Rd have stayed filled and the road is fine. Why don't the council make their life easy and have a planning condition that potholes on the direct access road to new developments are filled each week by the builders - the builders have the men and equipment on site already.

Steve Davenport was replaced by Steve Charmley (Whittington). Shortly after that, one of the roads through Whittington towards the level crossing was properly resurfaced. Charmley now seems to have been replaced by Richard Marshall (Worfield), whilst a very deep pothole has appeared at the main junction at Whittington, which no one seems to be doing anything about. Pure co-incidence I'm sure!

Pure co-incidence I'm sure! Oh the joys of local government led by councillors of variable abilities not always compatible with the statutory services they are tasked to provide . It all depends on how some councillors interpret their brief which, at times , is not always compatible with the needs of the electorate , also known as the “rate payers “ . Many councillors do a fine job it must be said and I know of a number who, whilst not representing my own personal political views are extremely competent and who I would delight in having them represent my ward. But that’s another conversation to be had. Im sure the residents of Worfield are very pleased with their representative who, no doubt , gets things done to their satisfaction . I can only suggest the way forward is to get yourself elected onto the Council ; you could always ask your sister for tips 😂😂😉

Possibly the biggest pothole I've ever seen appeared on the bridge in Hanwood over the Christmas/New Year period.
Thankfully after a couple of days it was filled in but I'd imagine there were a few sacrificial tyres and suspension arms in the meantime.

Unbelievable. It's just been announced on the Radio that traffic is being held up on the A55 North Wales Expressway on a Bank Holiday weekend because of potholes being repaired!

And they'll be "patched up" by Bill and Bert with the bare minimum equipment and they'll be back in six months. Show me a pot hole in Germany?? Advanced technology in the sky they invested in years ago to ditect problems in advance. We're a third world country with clowns running it. End of.

I'd say if the roads are so bad they need to be working 7 days a week to get on top of them

Worst stretches of road for pot holes include the following. Abbey Foregate . Welshpool Road Copthorne Road particularly by the pedestrian crossing . I mention this because children with their parents use this crossing a hell of a lot as they make their way to St George’s / Woodfield Schools . It’s an accident waiting to happen . Monkmoor Road , as already described as an off road delight .
Please add any more roads to the list and perhaps we could ask the appropriate bodies responsible for their views.

The roundabout at the top of Sundorne Road adjoining Featherbed Lane has completely crumbled in the last month or so. In fact Featherbed Lane itself is shocking. Potholes in Shrewsbury are currently as bad as ever.

when I was a kid I dont remember our roads being any better than they are now, maybe worse, going to telford town centre was a once a year event and involved sitting in queues of traffic on the A5 on the way back for what seemed like hours, in fact days out and holidays were rare events for me and all I remember was traffic was never a problem until we reached the outskirts of shropshire, maybe people would be happier if we had not used all the funds to make new roads but just patched up the old ones instead to allow sitting in traffic jams a much smoother experience ;-)

I think the M25 works on the principle that you are going too slow to notice the potholes.
