its ok, Shropshire Council are hiking our rates up by 5% to cover the shortfall... surely they will put it in to infrastructure? Birmingham City Council have just approved a 21% rate rise over two years, so stop moaning. We’ve never had it so good 😉

Is it not possible that many of these potholes are being created, or at least made worse by the number of heavier (an average of 30% heavier) EV's on our roads today?
The main roads take a pounding from HGV's for sure, but many of the badly affected roads are rarely used by HGVs

Electric cars totalled 17.8% of all new vehicles sold in 2023, and when you include all the existing cars that percentage would become much smaller. And on the subject of weight it seems more and more people drive big 4x4s and the like now. It’s far more likely that it’s shoddy maintenance programmes aimed at cheap quick fixes rather than proper lasting repairs. And of course it’s always made worse after winters, this one hasn’t been particularly cold but it’s been very wet. Can only see the conditions of our roads getting worse too with the budget cuts at the council.

And secondly, it’s up to the authority to spend it on what they see fit, do you have confidence in them to make the right decisions?

Would anyone else take relegation to the conference if we're ridded of the scourge of potholes? I know this correspondent would, NWM too.
Some classic severnbraincellsaside posting in this thread, too. "The electric cars! I knew it was them! Even when it was the HGVs and the 4x4s, I knew it was them!"

And our annual green bin charge has increased from £40 to £50. Mind you, I'm glad I don't live in Wales, Pembrokeshire council, for example, has increased its council tax rates by 12.5%.
